Looks like they don't even know what they are changing.
You can aim for specific items even now, only that it takes effort and it's fun >.>

True, you can, but currently you still end up with a boat-load of crap that you don't even want, and then you end up having to either sit and throw stuff out of your inventory or make a trip back to town to NPC it. I welcome these changes to help alleviate the excess garbage from mining.

And even then you still get branches or freaking eagle feathers when you want something else ><

Reducing the number of items at an area = less "noise" items.

Also remember we're getting an extra 100 inventory slots and 50 slots per retainer, so the noise items won't be such a problem anymore :)

I support less noise items. I was just talking about this with some LS members a day or so ago...and it'll help for people to fill their retainer with specific category items so they dont have to keep changing wards from one trip. Go mining and go straight to Mason ward.

Inventory space isn't the problem, its wasting time not getting the item I need even if I'm marking the notch at the correct spot.
