And Molly..yes you are absolutely right. I don't really blame them because of the reasons you listed. Hehe I just have no interest in joining super tight already established shells...I never seem to fit in because I am unable to function in a clique type environment. (Sorry I am not sure how to word that in a nicer way >< ) I love meeting new people too much for that :o Kinda sounds contradicting I suppose lol...

@OP It sounds like you are just in the wrong linkshell for what you want from this game. If you feel like you know that these people are going to treat you badly, don't run with them, and don't swing this crazy "I hate linkshells" club around.

There are plenty of shells out there that don't behave in this way and it is really up to you to look at their loot lotting rules and members before joining. As much as they want to get to know you and your play style, you should take it upon yourself to be getting to know them,their rules, and their way of doing things to see if it suits YOU.

You ask "Why don't you try getting to know me as a person instead and see if my attitude and personality are more in line with ideals of the LS, instead of behaving like i need to have proper qualifications/references to join." and my answer to that is that is exactly why the linkshell I'm in bothers to do applications and interviews, so that we know a little bit about the person we are thinking about recruiting instead of just what classes they play and how much free time they have.

So I herd something was happening over here...

First off - applications to endgame groups in many games is a pretty standard thing. Start-ups are common, and usually revolve around the random "Hey, you're a pretty cool guy, why don't you join my LS/Guild/League/Clan/Whatever". If you don't like the application process some Linkshells impose, then don't apply for them. In a lot of cases it's just to have it on record - I've had plenty of instances in FFXI (and other games) where I was invited to join a Linkshell but they wanted an application just to have all the info in one place. I'm not sure what sort of job applications or Linkshell applications you've been filling out, but there's a world of difference in the amount of information requested by each one. Filling out an application typically also involves creating an account on whatever site the Linkshell uses, so it makes it easier to register users and link them to the character.

Secondly - I'm not sure what your issue was with the pickup AV group. Just because previous pickup groups did it one way, does not mean others will do it that way. The Linkshell leader got an item instead of you, you say? You fail to mention, however, the circumstances around this. Who did the item drop to? Why did you expect it? If you were expecting them to call drops before the run, why did you not mention something before the run? It would appear as though you weren't able to even use the item yet (you mention that as their reasoning, and don't mention whether it was valid or not, so I'll assume it is). Why would you expect to get an item if there were no rules set in place before the run, the item didn't drop to you, and you can't even use it? Bringing up the nonsense with stat caps - you don't know what's going to happen in future updates in this game, and even in the current version, being at stat caps doesn't mean you don't need items that give more bonuses to said stats - they'll allow you do swap another item out. Is this logic beyond your comprehension?

Lastly - I felt obligated to read your entire post seeing as this is clearly in reference to the linkshell we shared (apparently not anymore), but honestly it was trying. If you're not going to use appropriate capitalization, spelling, and grammar, please refrain from your nonsense verbiage. All it's doing is limiting your audience and killing your credibility.

All-in-all, Reiko - I'd say I'm sorry to see you go but I'm pretty indifferent about it. You seemed cool, but I'd only seen you once or twice in game. I'm not sure you fully grasp the concept of a Linkshell. The point is to do activities with them. As someone who didn't do much with other members of the Linkshell, why would you think someone would want to give you an item? Simply being in a Linkshell is not the same as participating in one.

I wish you the best of luck, but your thread is a glorified "waa, I didn't get the item I wanted" thread.

Linkshells are designed to be a way for players with a similar goal to group up and explore and enjoy the gameworld. Every LS has a different goal and is for different people. Because of this, some WILL have an application process...some stricter than others. It is up to each player to decide whether or not, that LS is for them...the application process helps the potential applicant decide if the shell is for them every bit as much as it helps the LS.

This being said, if your in-game goal is to 'clear all the new, endgame content and have awesome gear.' Then you need to expect an application or trial-run process. A shell that is focusing on 'Events only' doesn't have the time to train you how to play your job or help you get your AF etc. They expect you to be able to play the job already so that you can spend time learning their strategy and helping them (and yourself) get the sexy gears/drops you all are after.

If you don't want to apply to a ls, or 'rules' just aren't your thing, that's also fine. But know that most LS's that are this laid-back do not have the man-power or dedication to consistantly clear Endgame content...but ARE very good at helping people with AF quests, Iffy battles, leveling, sbing etc. You can be in several ls's for a reason. Most players need 1-3 ls's to be able to find the mix that is correct for them.

As to the 'I didn't get the drop I wanted' thing.
You said yourself, his Dragoon was level 50 and could equip the helm...yours was 40 and could not. Why should you get gear you can't use yet over someone who can? New to the LS or not, Need before Greed. You don't NEED it yet. You'll get yours in due time, if you keep helping out and level your Dragoon. The passing of it to the 50 DRG had nothing to do with 'friendship' it had to do with him having the proper job/level AND his dedication to the LS.

But again, if you don't like it or find it unfair, join a different LS.

I really feel that you'd learn best by doing what others suggest:

1. Create you own LS
2. Invite ALL who wish to be in...regardless of timezone,level,skill,social skills, etc
3. Attempt to clear endgame content with your crew....

Then tell us all why applications are pointless, rewarding dedication isn't necessary, or why you don't need to have a friend or two in the ls as a leader to rely on for your own sanity.

Look, I liked your post, cus it does shine a flashlight on what could be considered indecent behavior. In all honesty I see the opinion of both sides because I have been playing MMOs for nearly 15 years and I understand the aspects of both sides of the arguments. Though as of lately I have been leaning to the side that I gave the spiel about. We all play the game for enjoyment and we all have different views of how things should be handled , hence part of the reason there are so many different LS's/Guilds in games. Each have their own unique rules and how things work, if you like one way over another then play with whatever group that has the same interests as you. Though I like would personally like to see more equality amongst members of a group that play together. I have seen in many situations where seniority goes way too far and royally screw someone else out of something they deserved.

All the things you have said have counter issues with them as well.

Why should their be a seniority on loot? Because you ran something 300 times means you should get it before guy who has only had the opportunity to run it 4-5 times? I mean I would be mad that I didn't get it in 300 runs but if you are there participating in the battle and it drops you should have just as much right as anyone else to roll on said piece of gear. If you want seniority rule then use a point system. (though this is why I like how primal fights are, your lamp your loot rule)

People understand the reason behind this but someone shouldn't be forced to be a healer because they have it leveled every time. Then people expect you to get gear for the healer class and what if they want to play their DD? Their DD is considered their main but you assign them something different? How is that fair? People don't always want to play the same class every time especially if they leveled multiple classes. Because said person has better gear than you means they get to play that class over you!? Sorry that is an elitist mentality, now if a fight requires a certain gear level and the person doesn't have it on their DD job that is understandable and needs to be explained.

By them saying "I'm above it" they are clarifying they think elitist mentality is childlike
and unnecessary, in which that is the truth of the matter. The whole I'm better than you concept because of game status is nothing more than a teenage pissing contest. I agree with the "I'm above it" comment, they aren't saying they are better than anyone but instead that they are more mature than that. Also stating that the childlike behavior expressed by the elitist mentality in all totality is a hindrance and grow up quit acting like you are still in High School. (unless you are in high school then you are excused)
