they did have ENG translators, but JP players complained the live letter takes 8 hours because there's always break for translator to translate everything into engrish, sentence by sentence.
I believe The un-translated live letter is result of community demand.

I agree that there could be subtitles but having double the time of LL, the complaint was absolutely justified and while this is not the best solution, it's the most convenient one, compared effort/price and result. Thanks fellow redditors for translation.

Everyone brings up this excuse but what is stopping them from doing an EN translated restream on a slight delay? It works for other companies, just mute the audio from Yoshi-P and have an EN translator talk over him with the translation. Nintendo manages to do developer streams and directs just fine in multiple languages.
Or even having an official translation available in text form available later the same day. There are more ways to have a translation than JP speaking - EN Speaking -JP Speaking -EN Speaking.

The fact is they aren't even trying to have solutions that work, the solution for the EN playerbase is always to make do with the scraps we get leftover from JP. That's the telling part about the devs' attitude and is a symptom of the larger situation that they really only care about theri JP players. EN is supposed to put up with patches at 4 am, downtime during prime time for patches, and no translations on the dev streams just because well, they either can't bother to put more effort in to make it work for anyone other than JP, or the worse of the two, they really do not care what any non-japanese players think or experience in the game.

The real reason liveletters are so long has more to do with how incredibly poorly organized they are. There is often an inordinate amount of time in each liveletter that is more or less wasted by Yoshida just kind of rambling nonsensically.

Frankly, they should just be scripted and recorded ahead of time, with an official translation being made available immediately.

Pretty much all of EW's QoL updates happened because cheating in Ultimate got the japanese media attention.
This wasn't about finally listening to the community, but more like.. saving face.

And half the time “qol updates” when the JP community complains aren’t even good changes

Remember when JP lost their minds at paisley park being used during TEA and it’s why we lost (and never got back) the ability to place markers in combat which makes fights like diamond EX and P7S with changing arenas much more annoying to have marker sets

they made the bard like crap it use to be better trash now why

It would be fantastic if the forums (and mainsub) didn’t act like this was somehow a good thing or something that they should defend

If the devs make unpopular changes (5.0 healers for example) they should be forced to defend their decisions not have half the playerbase that’s willing to praise them doing literally nothing or even defending them releasing less content
