To the OP, this game started out as FFXI-2 in early development, but the devs took it into a direction that separates it from XI in nearly every field outside of appearance and item/mob names. Granted, it was mostly flawed, and the new team has decided to lean on old ideas to try to fix the problems with the old system. Yes this game is a lot like XI, but that does not make it XI-2, any more than the similarities between FFIII, and FFV make them direct sequels to each other. The key difference in every FF is its world and/or its story, and Hydaelyn is all ready established as a different world from Vana'diel.

Long story short, stating that there are a ton of similarities between XI and XIV is only stating the obvious - that doesn't mean that XIV has to borrow every single idea that worked in XI, like so many former/current XI players would rather it did. Those of us who realize that XI has very dated systems would rather the dev team come up with new and better ideas, than simply import them from XI. It's a lot of the XI player-base that is so narrow-minded that they think that XI's systems are the only ones that will ever work.

But, ya, I do think that this game needs to do a lot more than *just draw ideas from XI. The only reason I'm starting to sound redundant to ppl is b/c the anti-XI ppl refuse to acknowledge the fact that plenty good can come from drawing *some* ideas from XI. SOME

lol that's only applicable when it's one dog versus the other...good try though. I'm "barking" so loudly b/c I'm having to fend off hoards and hoards of ignorant fools. And unlike the weaker, more cowardly dog, I'm biting back. And for your information, my argument is rock solid. Check out the initial post, and other XI-supporters' number of "likes" in this thread. XI-supporters just don't bother speaking out against you and "your kind," regardless of what is being said. They know that reason means nothing to you people, so why bother. And, perhaps, listening to your whining of blind unfounded hatred of a game most of you either didn't play, or didn't understand, just isn't enough to "rally" them into responding. However, they do care enough to make sure you know that your opinion matters very little to them. So, go pretend whatever you want in your little world -whatever helps you sleep at night.

IMO the importance is to draw good elements from all games (even non mmo) and improve them. I think we see that with the battle system now, it's probably more like aion or rift, but once you get going it's got a smoother xi-ish feel.

Also, this is a Final Fantasy title, so people trying to say that stuff is too 'xi' is just silly. Familiar names, spells, abilities, summons etc are what keep us drawn to FF titles. I love seeing new ways SE shows off our old favorites from past FF titles.

I agree that XIV was pretty crappy when it was released. But when it was released you were just immersed into the potential of the title. So while XIV might still not be worth paying for, without a doubt it has more room to expand, evolve , adapt and grow more than any WoW clone. I'm happy we've got someone like Yoshi-P fixing our game, and his team really seems to be pulling suggestions from the players (obv. not stupid ones like 'omg starts me with a zillion gil')

Anyway, I like XIV for its differences from XI because I played XI for 4 years, and have since played several games that have advanced the RPG and MMO genre. While I loved XI for a long time, I'm not so jaded that I think that XI is not completely flawed. I'm also not so blind that I would ever call this game XI-2, regardless of the similarities. It is simply another entry in the Final Fantasy franchise.

Exactly, this game has a lot more potential to grow outside of dated systems from XI. I'm all for inspiration from elements of other MMOs or games, including XI, but copy pastaing a system from XI is just stepping backwards nine times out of ten.

Imo, SE should be looking to Bioware and AreaNet for inspiration. SW:TOR, and GW2 are taking leaps and bounds in the MMO genre that are making XIV look like a last gen title.

I'm afraid *my point is proven. The number of likes is all relevant to the amount of views and replies in any given thread. So, to say that, "valid points get a ton more 'likes' than blah blah blah," is about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I take that back... The dog thing was pretty bad.
