For PS3 marketing plan for example aside from package there are download market and thinking there are other approaches for package such as PS3 exclusive but how will you market the PS3 version?
Y: With both PS3 and PC for the package we will have the ARR FFXIV out. Of course we are thinking about ARR FFXIV specials for early reservations or collectors edition but for those with current collectors edition it will be possible to upgrade to ARR collectors edition though online update. We are currenting making adjustments.

In other illustrations aside from element primals there is Odin, have you decided on how Odin will come out?
Y: Odin will come out in a different way compared to those primals that was already instroduced so for those playing current version may get surprised. (rest same stuff as game watch)
Next the Chocobo illustration are there other designs aside from Dragoon, White Mage, Black Mage?
Y: In ARR FFXIV not only can you ride Chocobo you can fight along side with them, for gear you can’t equip everything. First you raise your Chocobo to be a healer, tank and say once you raise a healer type then you can equip gears like White Mage or if it’s type that attacks with magic then you can equip gears like Black Mage. So by looking at the looks of Chocobo you can say “Oh that guy there is using BLM type chocobo” right away.
So depending on the result of how you raised the Chocobo the type of gear you can put on it will change?
Y: Yes, it will be that way. We are really working on Chocobo’s gear so aside from this there are all-purpose type as well. We haven’t shown this time around but we also have gear for tank type Chocobo as well.
Illustration of that city like area what kind of place is it?
Y: This is a new dungeon being added to ARR FFXIV. It’s aimed towards level 40-45 players. In ARR FFXIV we will add many dungeons like this one.
Does this place have any relationship to the main story?
Y: It doesn’t have any direct connection with the main story line but we do have a story line just for this dungeon. First you take a quest where they ask you to investigate this place and gradually you uncover dungeons secrets and reveal what kind of place this is.

Y: For example to open the gear equipment screen in standard RPG you first open the main command and open the equipment window, that’s the basics but say you register that into a macro and set that macro in gamepad slot you will be able to open the gear equipment button right away. There is no problem getting to it through the main command if you’re not used to that method.

In the main command screen there is a HUD category but how much of display adjustments can you make?
M: In that screen it will display the chat log or navigation map, current quests announcements but you can move the cursor in here. For example say bring the cursor to (quest name) and pressing the circle button will bring up the journal page with information regarding this quest right away. It acts as a launcher. This type of feature where you can jump other parked menu’s exist. Also the other one is you can adjust where to show these information, a layout mode so you will be able to reposition the widgets or change the size.

In the main command there is a category names Social but is there link to SNS type? (SNS = social networking service ex: facebook/twitter)
Y: As I thought it is misleading. For the command name I have told the team that I will make final changes but basically the meaning of social in this category has commands for Party List, Friend List, Black List, Free Company, and Linkshell so it’s your own personal category.
So this social category has no link to SNS correct?
M: Right now we have it set this way for the dev team to understand right away. To the players it’s also easy understanding word so we are talking to change it at the end.
Y: It’s kind of hard. For me I’m from Dragon Quest so I would say “friend/ally” in that social and “myself” in My character category since it’s easier to understand personally (laugh) but for this being Final Fantasy there is an image to use *yokomoji, also there is an issue with localization. The contents of that menu is pretty much complete but we would make adjustments to these type of naming and I think these parts are OK to be left till the end while we come up with something.
*yokomoji - katakana, english terms read out in foreign language and not converted to Japanese... like.... Friend List stays as Friend List in JP instead of Nakama hyou... something like that...it just matches better with FF since it was that way all this time.
.. I would just put Communication or something... anyways...
What can you do in the Live category?
Y: The live here refers to crafting or gathering. This one also will have some from Japan thinking that it’s something releated to Live feeling but in this case this Live means as daily livelihood. Action to live in Eorzea, to gather materials, to craft something, and housing menu, stuff like this.

Minagawa-san you are also in charge or the Web contents artist but what is this?
M: The players site “The Lodestone” will get renewal so I’m overseeing that design. For the site creation we have leading staff so I’m making adjustments on overall atmosphere or how it will connect with others.
Is someone else in charge of the official promotional site?
M: For the promotional site we have a plan to combine with the players site and in the end it will become “The Lodestone” as one.
Y: The promotional site is basically for those people who gets interested in FFXIV for the first time and “The Lodestone” is for already playing players so until the official release of ARR FFXIV we will stick with that. However our goal is to once ARR FFXIV is launched we will bring the promotion features into ARR “The Lodestone” side and make into one.

I see on the right side it’s displaying information on the quest you currently have but like the leve will the quest have a limit on how many you can take at once?
M: It’s possible to take 30 quests at same time. While I’m in office and doing the alpha test I haven’t been able to reach this limit yet. You can take as much as where the display will go off display area. For the journal we have another widget so you can choose which one to be displayed on the right side of the screen. Basically all the new quests you take will be added to the list.
I see the name hyrstmill but are there any additional features for hamlets?
Y: There is livelihood in hamlet, if you call that additional feature it’s there (laugh) If you’re talking about Hamlet defense then it will be a completely different content with different image.
Will something new be added as a content?
Y: The system will change greatly... to explain it I have to say everything out so I can’t say it just yet (laugh) The defense where enemy comes into the hamlet and it’s where everyone tries to defend so that’s still there. However unlike current play style, the way you participate or the locked up feeling will be gone and made into something you can freely join when the defense starts.
M: We are able to do stuff we couldn’t with the old version server.
Y: We couldn’t do what we originally wanted to do so it ended up the way it is now but we would like to bring that back to what we originally wanted to do. Also the Caravan Defense will use have same system. For this one we would like to announce along with a video when it’s close to launch timing. Once you figure it out it’s simple and we need the video to explain it better.
Are there anything different to the server structure aside from being able to play with others cross worlds using the matching system?
Y: Response has been greatly improved. We have resolved the issue in each zones.
M: For the response time it’s completely new dimension.
Y: If you say it’s normal that’s that. Also the loading speed has improved a lot, server response is faster, graphics load is faster, as a result the speed can’t be compared with current version. We had a situation where we were working on graphics for the loading screen and when it was time to finally put it in the load timing between zones were faster than expected so we had to talk about what we're going to do about load screen (laugh)
M: We were planning to show the next maps title and prepared them but when the screen went dark and before that image came up the next screen already loaded we were like “The logo fading in took longer!” (laugh) we are making adjustments.
Y: For this one not only the server but to shorten the client side load we have it where when you get close to next zone it will start reading the next map resource so it’s much more confortable.
M: For stuff like teleport which required overall parts resource changes will take some time but when walking to next area you will barely feel any load times, it's that smooth.
This will be about previously shown illustrations but the male Miqo’te or female Roegadyn, when will they be released?
Y: We will release at the timing of ARR FFXIV official service start. We have been in operation for 2 years so there are many gears for the character, in order to apply all this into a race requires a lot of cost. We have the default looks for each race gear but we are particular with each characters so even if its the same gear the form is different between male Miqo’te or male Hyur and we are making all those adjustments there is also stuff like the hole for the tail. We are currently still working on these adjustments. You won’t be able to use in alpha test but the plan is probably from beta test it may be possible to use.
Do you have a plan on how current existing players becomes a new race?
Y: I would like to make it possible to go through one time character remake at the timing of ARR FFXIV service start. Planning this for limited time and don’t want to make it where you can change the character make. So want to make sure say 6 month later you can’t go back and say I want to change again. Also by doing the character make you won’t be able to go back ever again so please understand that.
How is the alpha test application going?
Y: We have received couple thousand entries, we have the release timing set but we are currently putting together the tasks we have been working parallel until now into the alpha test so we’re making those adjustments. Even with each text we depending on who’s writing there will be some difference and for say the first opening part there was difference between the text that was prepared to make players understand and the text detailing the story and it stood out. We are making those adjustments as well.
If we make sure these parts where the player goes through are done correctly it will be an example for later operations and I believe we have to be particular for this one to be able to operate for many years ahead. Customers may say you’re spending too much time but due to the fact that the original FFXIV didn’t do that was the biggest problem, we are making sure we doing this correctly.
For the development side playing which parts can you feel the difference from current version and also which parts are the tasks?
Y: Alpha test is generally server load test so for it may be that the testers expectation is too high (laugh) but it’s hard to predict, it could be the server response, or how the maps changes, battle tempo probably will be a surprise.
M: Since they are already existing players and Gridania is known with some history so I think you will be surprised in a good way. Also there may be comments such as “You made this much changes to the forest so do more for the city.”
So for the city there isn’t much change?
Y: First I thought there wasn’t much but we actually did make a lot of changes..... (laugh)
M: We are talking at the last minute “What? We’re really going to make changes with this much time left?” and currently we are about to do this joint development. It will be under the daylight soon (laugh)
How about the existence of the 3 large nation will that remain as is?
Y: We got rid of all the critical problems but talking about existence nothing has changed. In current version people gathered in Ul’dah and Ul’dah was too good. When we design the new game and when we were laying out the structure if we had Ul’dah level design structure correctly it would or withstand for practical usage.
So there will be no disadvantages on which nation you choose at the beginning?
Y: The base is made so they are pretty much same, however this time the starting battle class and nation are linked together. This was something I didn’t agree on with current version FFXIV but by starting with Gladiator and starting from Gridania there is no Gladiators guild. No one will teach you about the sword and at same time you wouldn’t know the existence of Ul’dah with the actual guild, you are lost and won’t know where to go.
To be able to start from anywhere means we can’t tell them how we want them to play. So in ARR FFXIV say you want to start as a lancer you will start from Gridania but we will make sure to make connection with that guild and related quests. There are many things we can do by taking away that freedom also so instead of just being convenient we are taking how it’s easier to understand.
At the game show you only released the trailer and no playable demo, was there a reason behind this?
Y: That is because I believe even you touched MMORPG for 30 minutes you won’t understand the entertainment. If this was a stand alone Final Fantasy we would've created a flashy boss and say stuff like beat it in under 15 minutes and get a prize! but for online game there isn’t much case where you’re alone fighting a giant boss.
Even if we said to gather 5 people and defeat this boss, for those playing for the first time say you were WHM you may think “oh yeah WHM can use Holy” and run up in front lines and die. Even if there was a guide supporting that will limit the amount of players that can experience so instead of releasing a playable version and being told “this game is too hard” I wanted to take a standard Final Fantasy PR.
“It’s a new Final Fantasy!” “Oh the graphics are nice again!” “You can ride Chocobo!” “There are primals and real cool battles!” I wanted to push those out so for the TGS trailer we have made that aiming towards those Japanese customers with a PS3. So for current existing players we already expected them to feel that there was no new information.
Even with that when the PS3 version is out there are people that don’t know what Eorzea is so the trailer was made where there are where you meet people where you form a party and go through cool battles and ride the Chocobo. I was looking at the responses on Twitter but there was an increase in tweets from people who never talked about FFXIV previously so I think it was good.

The cities did need to be change to some degree anyhow.
speaking of underwear we need an upgrade from the cottons ones.
The gender swap/underwear issue could be solved very easily. Make all underwear items for all genders, just as they plan to make them for all races, with (obviously) the displayed model being different depending on the character's race and gender.
Or, if for some weird reason that's not possible, just force the underwear to be unequipped on a character whose gender was changed, and put in an NPC that lets you trade underwear for that of the opposite gender. I'm sure the writers and artists would have fun designing an NPC that specializes in that sort of thing. They could have the NPC sell knee-high socks, too.

もちろん,抽選に漏れた人にはトークン(チケットのようなもの)が渡され,トークンを貯めて交換できるアイテムもあるので,結果に対して必ず成果があるようになっています。
Y: This time in ARR FFXIV instead of having percentage drop on boss monster, we have it made so when you defeat the boss monster you will get some type of reward. Even for rare drop for each party there will be 2-3 item drops, so would like to have that go through lottery within party. But to participate in that lottery it is set for each contents to 3 times per week.
For that we have reset timer available for each contents so it's to check on those status. Of course for those that didn't make the lottery will get a token (something like a ticket) and by collecting the token there are items you can trade for so it's made so that there is some type of result.

For rare items if you have bad luck that privileged may not come around to you but you can challenge 3-4 times a week and if you still don't get it you can try other contents until you can try to reobtain. For this part it may be hard to understand till you actually play and try it out.

Y: Everyone from the dev team were all going to monster camps in current version (laugh) but that's how much it has changed from the current version to how you obtain the EXP or the game style.

コンテンツに関しては,βテスト以降の実装をあらためてアナウンスしますので,今回はサーバーレスポンスや,フィールドが切り替わったときのローディングのスピードなどにはかなりこだわったので,注目していただきたいですね。
Y: Quality can mean different things, it could be the quality of how the graphics finished, quality of UI, quality of the game design and the flow. So this time although it's mainly for server load test I have instructed the dev team to make sure to check the base section of ARR FFXIV.
For the contents we will announce post beta test release so for now please pay attention to the server response time or the loading speed when field changes.
rein i have a question. i see they keep mentioning the leveling process through quests. have you seen anything specific on quests such as if they will be linear(like cg, class, job) or if you will be able to pick up quests depending on the level you are atm(leve type)?
for example i'm all capped classes so upon cap raise later on will i have to do all of the starting quests to build up to the 50+ quests or will i have the option to start on the quests at the level i am already?

They haven't mentioned that but probably if there are class specific quests form 1-50+ then you have to do all those quests prior. Might be good to start a thread specifically on quests in ARR to see if reps will answer, don't remember seeing any reps answering this one yet.
My concern is what's going to happen if you run out of quests like how they mentioned in this 4gamer interview part where the devs testing complaining they can't level since they finished the quests already. They have to add enough repeatable quests or class specific quests which at least helps each class to level from 1-50 or close to cap, and finishing it off with guild leve or something.
ok i'll start one. i just figured that'd be one thing they asked since i've had that same question brought to my attention many times in game because most know i stay on the forums a lot and try to read everything they put out for new info. figured you'd be one of the people that would have seen a question on the jp side and response to it. thanks for the response.
They said also there'll be other content to exp except quests.
Probably gotta do those instanced dungeons or leves when you run out of quests, for 1-2 class would work but if you gotta repeat so many times to complete all class would get people bored fast. Specially for new people starting game at ARR imo.
They also got that one content they haven't introduced yet... maybe that??
