Yeah, agreed. I'm still not gonna hold my breath for the fan fest, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if they do announce something for Viera/Hroth. In the meantime, I'm just gonna wait until after the Fan Fest to decide if I wanna use my last fantasia to swap to something else. Being a hroth and just passing on the 2B/9S hairstyles when they drop because what's the point of having them if I can't use them kinda makes me sad.
bumping this
They're not really that expensive. Certainly not enough to put up with the eye strain from running the Tower.
I think they are down to around 300k on omega...so....it is some nice pocketmoney I guess. Now the early to rise hairstyle on the other hand.....
Anyways. Anyone hyped for the fanfest? I keep hoping someone is gonna spoil something somewhere as to if they will release anything on the two races.
Hope is the last to die.... :P
Early to Rise might show up in a future Moogle Treasure event, but right now it's probably still too new.
I'm a bit hyped to see/hear some news regarding the expansion itself, but I'm waaay too sceptical at this point to even try to hype myself up for them mentioning anything regarding the two races.
I'd like to be pleasantly surprised though. :p
I’d be watching the Q&A for any race information as this is a consistently returned to topic and request. I feel job stuff and the all-encompassing stat squish are a much bigger priority than our bun and big cat customization options as far as key-note topics go.
I’m expecting something.
There has to be something for us. I find it hard to believe that after more than 2 years they aren't going to provide these races with anything new. One can hope that it'll be revealed at Fan Fest.
If they have nothing else, an apology would be needed. Not that I think game devs gotta be apologizing for everything but knowing the company and Yoshi-P, that would be something in their line of thinking. But please....please just word that we're getting updates is good. Don't gotta have the physical proof (please though) just tell us something is going to happen and soon.
Oh yeah, it would definitely be better than just ignoring it altogether again, it just rings a bit hollow if we got another "we're working on it please look forward to it".
If they have nothing concrete to show then ideally I'd like them to go into a bit of detail about just what their plan is for each race individually.
It's been brought up in this thread before that the few times they've spoken about it they talk about them as a unit, when both races have different issues and a different 'design philosophy', for lack of a better word.
I'm going into watching the letter, under the impression that nothing will be mentioned about either race, at least then if something as weak as "We're working on it" is mentioned it a bitter yet somewhat pleasant surprise.
I want the bolded a lot more than more hairstyles. Even if it's not likely.
MMORPG designers have this dumb notion that beast races need to have uncivilized-like animations like WoW Taurien or something. If Hrothgar are based on Ronso, the decision is even dumber. Ronso don't have problems standing or walking straight. It's not particularly sensible even considering Hrothgar their own thing either, since nothing about their lore suggest they're any more uncivilized than a Roegadyn.
I think the reason hrothgar are like that is because the developers were attempting to make a race that is more familiar to players of WoW who played such races and wanted an analog in FFXIV. It doesn't really have anything to do with lore and has much more to do with the fact that ARR was built from the beginning to take parts of other successful MMORPGs and staple them in and the dev team has continued to do so since.
I feel that's a bit to deep, yes WoW's Orcs are hunched over, however, they now have a straight back option which came in BFA i think it was. . so that making it familiar for wow players doesn't really work
For me, it's a bit more simple than that tho, they have a hunch else they just a Roegadyn with a cat face..
just a shame we won't be able to get a /Posture or a tick box on the Aesthetician
Yoshi-P has already said that he's a WoW player and it's very evident a lot of the game mechanics come straight out of GW2 and WoW. FATEs are basically the exact same as the mechanic in GW2, and before Yoshi-P took over, FF had nothing like the dungeons, raids, and trials we have now, which are apparently more like WoW than FFXI. Then there's also the duty finder, which is apparently another thing taken from WoW. Part of the reason ARR did so well compared to 1.0 is that Yoshi-P, unlike the previous director, is an MMO player and he took everything that worked from other MMOs and wrapped it up into a single package.
I didn't know that orcs were hunched over, but aren't the tauren a hunched race? I would think that the hrothgar being more beastly are meant to fill the "hunched beast race" niche like WoW's tauren and GW2's charr. This is what Yoshi-P had to say on hrothgar:
I also don't understand why people keep making roegadyn comparisons. Every other race in the game except for lalafell use the hyur skeleton. Yet no one calls the other races "long hyur" or "hyur but with cat ears".Quote:
After seeing the positive reception of the Lupin characters we introduced in Stormblood, we concluded that, for the long-term health of FFXIV, it was important to implement a greater variety of character types beyond the traditionally beautiful in a future expansion. In truth, we had considered adding more beastly characters long before, and since this was possibly our last chance to do so, we decided that we should—much like we did with the Viera—in the interests of expanding the lore and the choices available to players.
Character creation is about providing players with options, and while there’s no telling how many people will utilize these options, we also believe that there is value simply in having them exist—in empowering people to fill the world with greater variety.
Little pet peeve of mine anytime someone says that cuz actually they may use the same skeleton but are visibly different than Roes - broad shoulders and thinner waist, making their torso more triangular than literal rectangles, thicker thighs, shorter and more toned arms, smaller hands - all around more proportional but keeping the "bara bait" theme, there's a reason Hroths killed the male Roe population lol
Anyways, I'm fairly certain the hunch is to make them look more feral, after all, they're anthropomorphic cat people, not humans with catlike features, and even in-universe were confused for a beast tribe.
I also highly doubt WoW had anything to do there, specially considering almost every orc/undead/tauren/troll has asked for a straight back option practically since the game started, so it'd be both ironic and dumb to copy the one thing that was almost unanimously disliked by the playerbase.
My hope is at least the Hrothgar and Viera hairstyles get expanded like they promised. It is very unfortunate that they still are stuck with so many limitations. Viera are in a much better position than Hrothgar but still....2 years and nothing. If they didn't truly want to treat the races the same as the others they should have never been added in the first place.
At this point, I have mild hopes and low expectations. If there's no word at all, I might just bite the bullet and go for a fantasia. Just debating if I want to go back to Au Ra, or maybe try maining a Miqo'te for a while.
I have a Lalafell alt. I just find the tiny size and cutesy aesthetic really jarring during the more serious parts of the story. It's just not for me.
Before it gets asked, about the other races: I find Hyur of either clan kinda boring, Elezen proportions unsettling and awkward, and Roes kinda stiff and sorta incomplete-looking. And Hrothgar don't have playable ladies.
That's the big problem: Viera feels like the race for "me", I love their proportions and animations; their general aesthetic is in-line with what I want for my character... but their customization leaves A LOT to be desired. I love veils, I love turbans, I love fashionable hats and winged helmets... Viera can't wear any of those. The limited hairstyles are a whooooole other problem.
i love Viera, it's really what I. prefer, but then all the new hairstyles come out and.. I want to at least see them on me, or want hats for a bit. so go back to Miqo'te for a while... then can't stand it and have to be Viera again. Really, there are only a few hairstyles I really like period, so being Viera isn't so bad for me, most of the time. But I really hope we get more styles sooner or later - preferably sooner
I left Viera after an 8-9 month break from the game. Went back to OG me, Miqo'te, for a month or two. Then went back to Au Ra which I spent the entirety of stormblood as after the first month or two. When the new races get the attention they deserve then maybe I'll consider them once again.
How did you feel going back to your OG race, and then to a different one?
I've been debating to switching back to Miqo'te if they don't address the Viera/Hrothgar issue, but I'm still on the fence. I kind of don't want to give SE more reasons to not fix them if their population dips.
I didn't mind it. Miqo'te is what I started the game as but I guess all that time I spent as an Au Ra in Stormblood made me like the race more. At the very least I can expect everything released to work on my current race.
Well take into account that its what you prefer. Not what anyone else felt when they switched back. Some people's love for Viera and/or Hrothgar (Me! I loved being a femroe because femroes are simply queens, but I love my Hrothgar even more T_T) is more than enough to keep them on a race that has been pulling short straws since their release vs going back and loving their original selves
If anything is the two I'm most likely to bounce between is Au Ra and Viera, even if I'm a cat person at heart. Though when I ever intend to bounce back to Viera I guess is a ball I'm going to throw into Square's court for the time being. I certainly wasn't expecting them to get ignored for 2 years (or more?).
I swear I wasn't somewhat inspired by the Azim Steppe at some point. Not at all.
Thank you for sharing!
Haha, if it was up to me, I'd prefer to have Lupin as a playable race. But let's not open that can of worms. I think I'll ultimately stay Hrothgar, mostly because I tend to gravitate towards beast races in games. The loss of customization options definitely stings, though.
If you intend to change just make sure you know you'll like it. Spending 2 years as an Au Ra had an impact on me as much as I like Viera. I do not hate them but I swapped back for the time being.
I know my character data so I know what I was falling back to.
SE execs looking at everyone in this thread saying they’ll fantasia after Fanfest like
