I too am looking for a second opinion on this.

Best Idea is to get one accessory this week and then to get the Body next week. If you are downing AS1 then you should have enough tomes to get an accessory this week (Sexy sexy earrings). And honestly getting more accessories now will hurt you in the future if you're trying to gear as fast as possible. Best spend as much tomes on Body/Legs since those are gonna require AS3 and AS4 where as the accessories are only locked behind AS1.
Here is the current build I am going for

I am of the assumption that 626 Accuracy should be enough for frontals in AS3 (My group does a stacking mechanic) and we shouldn't need to do Frontals in AS4. Other than that I really couldn't care less where the stats go until we get stat weights. Just tried to minimize SS
Check the OP... I did rough weights for the Monk. Expect them to change slightly once I've finished, however.
Holy crap Dervy the God. I didn't see that, I wasn't expecting stat weights for at least another month.
Here's the new build i'm doing. http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/QZFI
The reason you go after the body is because the body only drops in a later turn, on the other hand, this week you will be able to get your first one/two pieces from the Gordian Manuals if you have been clearing AS1 and AS2 since week one. This means that later on during your progression you won't gain much benefit from clearing AS1/AS2 if you buy the same pieces that drop in there or you can otherwise get from your manuals.
What would you propose to someone who is stuck doing A1-4 normal for the moment, though?
Had one of my better Faust parses tonight. I'm a week behind on gear because of NIN -> MNK swap.

I really need to find a better static. Still can't down A1S. We lost a DPS so one of the pugs was the DRG in third. Zzzz.
For those monks out there who have cleared A2 and possibly A3, what numbers are you pulling? Also if you could include A1 numbers that'd be great. My group is currently having issues in A2 with DPS, meeting enrage with about 15-20 seconds worth of dpsing left to do on the last widow when the big bomb goes off. Our bard is having to play songs quite often, and I have resorted to not using rockbreaker as much as possible to help TP issues, since my TP is like a black hole when I use it.
Whenever anyone asks me about their DPS performance the first question I respond with is "Are you using Legacy camera mode?"
If the answer is yes then I'll make them switch to Standard camera, or get used to using lock-on religiously. It always surprises me how much people underestimate the impact this has.
I Dont know my exact A2 numbers since I play on console (1.5k+ last time I asked the friendly PC players of my group) but in regards to rockbreaker I use it in waves 3,4 and 8 mostly, I couple it with pb when its up. You can get purification off up to 4x in A2S, mix that in with invigorate and you should be alright. Would be interested in hearing what numbers are pulled in A3S though.
Unfortunately I switch to SMN for A2, so can't help you there. My numbers have been completely horrible lately anyways due to this stupid lag (thanks Verizon Fios).
A1S our monk usually does 1050+ but we kill the boss before 3rd jump.
A2S our monk usually does around 1500+. I think he offsets purification and invigorate so that he has a TP regen every minute or so. If the lack of TP causes you to delay a gcd, you're better off charging a stack of chakra and he continues this until he has 5 stacks for purification.
Can't give you a3s numbers since we're still polishing up adds phase :(
1.6k dps in A2 but i have seen higher from fellow monks in fc, you should be able to use rockbreaker full time when there is a decent amount of mobs up, obviously use purification/invigorate on cooldown, i personally don't use touch of death until last phase also to help with tp.
1.2k dps in A3s https://i.imgur.com/D4lQZFG.jpg this was a sloppy clear also compared to last week so could do abit more.
I'm relegated to gobwalker duty in a2s sadly. But before I get in it Im around 1500-1600, but also out of TP. Are people getting TP song to sustain all those rockbreakers?
How many purifications are you going through? Since there's not much downtime in A2s, I find I can only use it once from when i've built 5 stacks before the fight began and possibly another time right before the 4 jagged dolls spawn but risk losing GCD dps (potentially GL3 as well) to build it up. Course I'm probably managing my TP horridly compared to you guys... When I hit 1.4-1.5k utilizing Rockbreaker, that is having all the goads and 2-3 paeons..... very painful for our bard's dps
3x mostly. First purification I use after the second wave (would be around 700tp after using RB), it would be back up in the middle of wave 5 with both widows up, then at the start of wave 8 around the time when you kill 2 jagd dolls and the next adds spawn and get grouped together. In wave 9 it will be back up around the middle of it but I manage to finish the fight without it at that stage.
What I do for Purification in A2S is Use purification sometime during wave 2. Lets you pop 1-2 meditations before wave 3. Finish wave 3 (you will probably use invig during this but you can figure that out). 2 meditations on the way over to wave 4 (first gobwalker wave?). 2 meditations on the way to Widow, Use purification when ready to. Figure out a good time to use meditations again. At that point usually I can forgo doing some damage to use GCDs for meditation every now and then.
Here's some worthless trivia.
If you form shift during PB, you will "dodge" the skill.
Using Purification for the 2nd wave in A2S is rather... pointless. You should try to use invigorate first because it's on an actual timer rather than locked behind meditation stacks as well. Waves 3&4 are the big AOE waves so that's when I use both. You can generally get one stack between each wave without affecting your DPS. On Gobwidows, rather than avoiding the clipping of Demolish with Fracture, use meditate. You can skip Touch of death the same way but I don't run into enough TP issues to justify not using it and it's nice to have when you can't immediately get to the rear/flank or the tank is moving.
Found out theres actually a Skill Speed threshold you need to meet to be able to keep GL3 in AS3 (Found that out after a gear upgrade and a skill speed lost). When the boss switches from Normal Form to Hand form at the start of the fight, if you don't have enough Skill speed, you won't be able to get the last Snap Punch off in time and you'll be stuck with GL3 for like 3 seconds (not enough time to hit him with Snap punch after the transformation animation finishes).
I'm currently at 546 SS, I think i'm about 25 Short, maybe a little more. So I suggest you go into AS3 with 580 SS or more to be safe. You'll notice what I'm talking about if you haven't done AS3 yet.
Also altered my rotation if anyone cares.
Shift to Courel > Snap > Pb > Snap > Demo > Twin > B4B X DK > Pot X Snap > IR X ToD > Elixer Field X Bootshine > Howling X True > Steel Peak X Snap > Shoulder X DK > Forbidden X Twin > Demo.
Actually those skills might be a GCD late, ill let you guys know.
With enough SS you should be able to keep the Potion buff until Demo. I'm testing that now, but my SS is really low.
i can fit in the snap punch quite comfortably there, in fact i even have time for a bootshine afterward, i do however skip out on the ToD leading up to that for 2 reasons
1) the dot will get a dimished effect anyway because of the invulnerability
2) makes keeping GL3 a lot safer
I'm at 4 Purifications:
Wave 1 (Preloaded 5x Meds)
Wave 2 (Invigorate)
Wave 3 (Purification)
Wave 4 (Med 2x)
Wave 5 (Invigorate near start of Gobwidow HP, weave Meds 3x during Gobwidow, then Purification after cooldown ends)
Wave 6 (Invigorate as doll dies, then weave 5x Meds during last 20% of Gobwidow)
Wave 7 (Purification just as dolls spawn)
Wave 8 (Invigorate, then weave 5x Meds while finishing off last 20% of doll)
Wave 9 (Purification)
1574 on our first clear, but I haven't measured again.
thats a fairly standard opener it looks like, i'de swap the DK and TS around so the timers actually line up though, only other difference i see is demo is the 3rd gcd, not first.
seriously though why does everyone insist on doing twin snakes before the dragon kick, you gain nothing and lose so much
Can you explain? As far as I can tell TWS > DK is 140+(150*1.1) potency for a total of 305 while the other way around is 150+(140*1.1) for a total of 304. Granted, it's basically nothing, but I see no benefit from the latter except getting reduced INT in 1 GCD sooner.
Even if you gain potency it'll be lost when you reapply Twin after it falls off. Plus unbuffed auto('s).
Perhaps this can be avoided with enough skill speed... but why bother?
new lvl 53 monk here. A few questions:
1. what is some of the best openers/guides out there right now for monk?
2. and by "normal rotation" you mean keeping dots/buffs up while trying to deal the most damage?
3. is there any top monks that stream/youtube that I can watch to help improve?
thanks.
No need to be rude. I asked for "some of the best" and I didn't hear too many people saying too much about the rotation here (in comparison to others) and people give varied rotations.
No need for the unnecessary hostility but thanks for helping I guess. It could have been worse and I could have made a whole topic about this. Besides there were other questions I needed help answering. If you are going to give the typical "We shouldn't have to baby you post" don't bother. I'm not here for an argument. I already read a good chunk of this forum before asking, but I might have missed something.
Edit: I just checked and there was only one forum post about monk rotation on page 2 and then another random "lets stand up for monks" and "monk advice" topics on pg 4 -__-. How is that "being posted on a daily"? Again I didn't read through this whole thread/forum (which was dumb of me to not do before asking since I found at least a good rotation on pg2 of the whole forum) and I said I wouldn't argue here, but cmon.
