Did not expect to see that this had been bumped so recently. Well, since no one said anything I guess I'll put it back on Page 1. Seriously Yoshida, it doesn't need to be 100% perfect. We just want a fun card game with some collectible aspect. Tons of great ideas have been put forth in various threads, it'd be a shame to not see some of them used.
Would be surprising if they showed some card game they were working on at E3.
All YoshiP needed was good idea from the staff that can work on the card game and should be in the game, would be nice if they made it at 2.0 launch but probably gonna be later.
Yeah, it would be awesome if they could get it in with 2.0. I mean I highly doubt we'd see it before that because we've got 1.22 and 1.23 left and that's it for 1.X. I'd collect the shit out of some cards though, I'd spend a lot more time actively doing something in the game world lol. More things are what we need, primarily now that the big fixes are coming to an end.
Ha, if they added Tetra Master or Triple Triad into this game, I would be floor, I'd get all my friends to play, and make them suffer through the rest of this games so we can become the champs of the server!
Only if they make it however...
1. All classes can participate: Such as giving DoM, DoW, DoL, DoH the ability to collect these cards.
2. Make it so I don't have to log out of FFXIV to Play: Looking at you FFXI >.>
3. Don't add another subscription fee
4. Speed up the damn UI: Would be horrible having to have a fast paced game only to spend 20 seconds a turn navigating clunky UI, also, I would dread building a deck having to select cards from maybe a lift of 50+
5. Make each card unique to how it was made: Such as DoM classes create cards with magical properties, and DoW create cards with physical properties, how will this effect anything you ask? Well say a DoM class made a card from a monster whose primary stats were physical, basically a very weak card. And for DoH and DoL, can always have weapons/buff cards add to the lot.
6. Separate inventory for any and all cards: Don't give us infinite slots, but don't give us too little so we only have enough for one simple deck and forcing us to constant abandon perfectly good cards for cards we deem to be better at the time, only to find out they're not.
7. Now this is a big maybe, make a separate class that uses these cards, that in turn levels up: getting abilities we can strategically use in a card battle would only add more flavor.Cap the amount of abilities low, but have a wide variety of abilities give us something to choose from. There would be no Cookie Cutter card builds, cause you could never know who was packing once.
8. Make every day tournaments that happen often, for every level range: Not every 6 months, not every month, not even once every week, but 3 times a day every 3 days, during each NA, EU/FA, DU, and JP prime times. Make it so during the tourneys, no exp can be gained (To prevent people from edging to end of a level range and giving themselves an advantage.) and the end prize being worth it for people to spend a good chunk of their day participating in. But also rewarding the runner ups for participating.
Number 8 is the most challenging one in there, so they will have to create a sudden death mode that last the first couple of rounds to speed it up.
I know, dream may be too big, but at least I like to dream.
Nice ideas, let me jump in:
1. is a must, no way around it. Someone had the idea of making it a Gil sink with starter packs sold at each city
2. also must, otherwise seriously SE don't bother

4. this should come with 2.0
5. nice, but I prefer Triple Triad way. Make for each disciple unique cards. Some from fishing high level fish, some from mining...
6. this again a must. Maybe 100 cards max, you have to forgo few.
7. This is a nice idea, but keep it for later, give us the card game first :)
8. hard to implement, awesome if available.
Other stuff I like to add is:
- Legendary cards, these are cards that only 1 copy exist per server (or few more). The player who get it, must use it say for a week, or loose it (better yet, you WILL loose it in a week, used or not) Then you challenge an NPC to get it, kill NM, fish some fish or win a tournament to get it.
- make rules like Tetra master. Random, winner gets all, stuff like that to spice things up.
- For rewards (this seemed like a big thing for Yoshi P) make cards tradeable to NPC for items/Gil/seals. Legendary card will get you unique items, consumables, etc.
I'm sure I'm missing few stuff
Tournaments would be fun but players could organize those as well. Don't need SE to do that for us, though it would be cool if they did.
Card class seems like an okay idea but I'd rather we just get the card game first.

Triple Triad is from FF8 right? Yeah, that was a really fun minigame, would like that
Card game. It could be similar Parley, but not retarded and so limited. Achievments for getting certain cards, etc.

Given the choice, I'd prefer the necrobump rather than a new redundant thread.
I believe it was an interview where Yoshi-P said that implementing a card game is problematic because without a reward system people would just abandon the game after a while and all the dev work on it would go to waste.
However, WITH a reward system, there are lots of sticky issues where players could lose on purpose to give others rewards, and some countries have gambling laws that would cause legal issues for the game.
A good solution would be to implement rewards only vs NPCs. But players can still go PVP card games for fun, casual games.
Dev team just needs to keep supporting it and not leave it dead so it will keep players' attention. In XI, we have a load of stuff where half of them are not used anymore. Look at PvP and Pokemon crap, there was no one playing it at all.
I think Triple/Tetra is a choice by most of players. It would be nice if players are allowed to play a card game with their friends anywhere in the open-world so whether rewards or not it won't be dead.
I think you can circumvent the gambling issue by just making the rewards based on wins not card "taking" or putting money down. And I agree - necrobumps can be useful over creating and then re-saying all of what was said in the last thread. Only have to be careful when the thread is containing old incorrect information - specially in the OP.
