I have a hard time believing that an MMO as profitable as FFXIV is has such crappy servers than it can't handle even a small apartment for each player which are only rendered when entered. If the situation is really that bad the entire engine needs and overhaul and they need to stop pussyfooting around it. Even (technically) free to play MMOs such as Aion, Runes of Magic, and SWTOR (at their peak) managed to have instanced housing for every single player no problem. City of Heroes had massive custom bases for any super group that wanted them. Star Wars Galaxies had physical in world housing by the thousands across multiple worlds, all you had to do was find a location in world to place the structure and you could have like 3-4 at a time depending on the size.
Seriously, what's holding FFXIV back? I wish they'd directly address this and explain in detail what the problem is. I personally have a feeling it has something to do with the old 1.0 spaghetti code they built ARR on top of.
