Except they did it! They posted a screenshot of the lottery information shown on the Estate Timers in the news post.

I have no doubt there will be plenty of complaints once Empyreum sells out and the newness of the system wears off. Still, most players will be better off than they are under the current system even if serious flaws remain.

During the EW release people had "fun" posting the biggest queue length they hit.

Looks like they did their testing on Balmung.

FCFS with the timer heavily favours spamming bots and it's unfair to players who want to abide by the ToS and not use a third-party program, and all players not playing on the PC.
Without the timer, players with work and real-life issues don't stand a chance because houses will be all gone after the maintenance.
FCFS has no advantages and lottery is the only way forward.

FCFS favored massively unhealthy length of signboard clicking/macroing.

Lottery is far more preferable.

Do you know what FCFS actually details? You get to the house first, you click the sign once and the property is yours! There is no “unhealthy clicking/macroing”. Troll some more.

For those players who wanted the lottery, you got it! I give it a few weeks before you guys are crying as the amount of available housing goes down and the amount of people getting into the lottery goes up!

Yeah, I've given up even trying to explain this, just kick back and pre-make your popcorn for the aftermath. I am just sad that they decided to screw and entire new data centre over with this idiocy.

I'm hoping my decision to move to the lowest pop world and waiting til the last minute serves me well enough to get my FC a house with my alt and myself my old large back on my main.

Can't wait for the penny to drop when all the lottery fans finally realise that the shell FCs they are so terrified of were the ones who benefitted from implementing this on a new data centre and the only people shut out of housing were FC leaders who didn't have alts.

My guess is there will be homeless FCs when the dust settles because people wanted their personals and didn't have alternatives to proxy bid with.

Except that's not what FCFS entails. FCFS entails placard camping for a considerable period of time while not being able to play the rest of the game (unless you're running multiple service accounts and are placard camping with the account(s) you've attached to your bot).

On the first day of a ward addition, the camping can be bypassed if you're able to beat the login queue the moment the servers come online. That's not going to happen for most players. By the time they're able to get past the log in queue, or log in later that day/week, everything has been sold and the only plots left are those that were vacated by relocators but subject to the purchase timer.

That's why SE has had to resort to the lottery - to make sure players who don't have that freedom to log in the moment servers come online and luck to beat the log in queue also get a fair chance to purchase.

And of course players are still going to be upset a month from now. It's got nothing to do with the lack of FCFS because they wouldn't be able to get a plot with FCFS anymore than they were able to get one with the lottery. It will be because there are not enough houses for every player to have one regardless of which purchase system gets used.

Even on Materia, it should be a rare FC that doesn't have at least one player who doesn't want a personal house or an additional character in the FC that enter for the FC while entering for a personal on their main.

SE released the major details about the housing changes back in November (we knew at that point that entries were per character and that FCs could have multiple members entering). That was plenty of time for players who cared to prepare for this. There was still more than enough time left when the official Materia opening information was posted back in January and the data center opened.

The only players that should be unprepared are those who weren't paying attention or who for some strange reason felt SE would completely change their announced plans at the last minute. Their fault for not being prepared for the worst case scenario.

Have you done a straw poll with your own FC and with your friends in other FCs to find out which will not have any members available to enter on behalf of those FCs? How many will be okay? How many will have a problem?

They never even alluded to the entirety of Materia being lottery. Even when they started muttering about the possibility they teased us with partial FCFS and partial lottery.

And why on earth would there be people who don't want houses in anyone's FC? Do you understand that not a single soul on the data centre has had the ability to purchase a plot until now? God even people who have never wanted it before are going to be lotting on OCE to 'try their luck'. .

I give up, I swear it's like banging my head against a brick wall trying to explain that the situation on Materia is not like the situation on every other data centre.

I still don't see any problems for Materia given the extremely low number of current active player there.

Anyone who just want a house WILL get a house provided they aren't fussy and go for unicorn plots.

I think someone looked up the numbers and even on Ravana which is the most populous Materia server, there are only about 1K free companies, and that's not discounting those which are ineligible for housing at 6.1 due to being new or not rank 6.

Just to put things in perspective, there are going to be 7k new plots per server and from what Yoshi-P alluded in the latest live letter, they will be allocating more plots for FCs so at least half or 3.5k plots will be available for FCs alone.

Simply put, empty wards are going to be more of an issue then players not being able to secure a house.
