DPS why don't you know your rotations?

People don't expect perfection, just passable play. It's not perfection to use cooldowns when they come up and not "save them for when you need them (i.e. never use them at all)." It's not perfection to manage timers decently. It's not perfection to realize that it's not only your time, but the time of everyone in the instance with you.

The thread topic here asks about rotations. That has nothing to do with rotations - that's someone who flat-out didn't read and/or doesn't know what their abilities do. On that topic I would sympathize.

Were you wiping, with the Dragoon being the first to die [a sure sign of DPS loss]?

And, most importantly, did it make a difference in the actual outcome of the instance?

My post said nothing about rotations. It was a rebuttal of your insinuation that anyone was demanding perfect play.

Dragoon rotation still and always has Heavy Thrust on flank, Phleb on the rear. Positional is part of rotations otherwise you don't activate the full effects of the skill.

Yes, derp DPS damage means more to heal, more resources and cooldowns wasted. MP and even more TP from ranged DPS because they have to carry the burden of low DPS.

The best mitigation in this game isn't healer shields, it's damage. Sooner the thing dies, less to heal, or better yet nothing to heal.

True. I can honestly say I have never seen that argument used in an instance.

I believe a lot of players know their rotations, after all the game points outs our general rotations pretty well, but they get flustered in the heat of the moment. As a species, we don't multitask well.

Dodging AoEs, watching for mob & boss mechanics, following a priority list, all while spell effects and other things are going off on the monitor, threaten to overwhelm our senses. Mistakes crop in as we "tune out" whatever isn't immediately presented in front of us.

Many players can rise to the challenge while other players flounder a bit. I feel it's up to all of us to have a little patience and humor when confronted with another player who doesn't seem to "get it."

Ask nicely if they'd mind some help. At that point and onwards, the ball is in their court. If they don't reply or get snotty, oh well... it's on their own head when they get kicked for doing less damage than the healer.

No, sorry, what I was saying was that my comment doesn't apply to what you're talking about - I don't think you are asking for perfection, but I'm sure others are. I agree with you that people should try and put some basic information into understanding their abilities and how to use them.

Knowing your rotations, as was asked by the OP, goes far beyond understanding of abilities and into the realm of maximizing damage potential.

I will say that the argument of "Pay my sub and I'll play how you want," is dumb. I haven't heard that in this game, but I've heard it in WoW. I agree, when I'm playing solo I'll play however I want. But the moment I step into an instance with other players, then it's no longer just my sub. It's everyone else's, too. So, it's up to me and everyone else to do what the group wants. If that group is looking for a speedrun with overgeared players or whatever, then I'll just find another group.

I can't just be selfish and say, "My sub, I'll play how I want!" That's not how socializing works. And I'm about as anti-social as they come.

Yes, thank you for saying it. There really is room for humor, even when wiping.

Well there is mch which at this point I don't know if its cause the developers don't like mch or its as a community even theory crafting we still can't bring numbers above brd (That has better utility) in a party setting. I like mch but I am not waiting a couple patches like heavensward were mch was practically banned from end game content in party finder.
