I've noticed this lately as well and it's getting on my nerves too. I've dropped from a bunch of groups because of this. I have asked if we could kill all the adds and I've been met with people freaking out on me for even suggesting it because how dare I want to be 60 before I reach the last set of floors!

You're already my hero.. there is hope. I was wondering if I was crazy as thats how I feel when people stare at me when I ask to kill all the mobs.

P.S; Yes, translation in the game covers certain moves, but how do you tell someone who doesn't speak english the tactics for a boss, etc. :P

your not crazy I've had to remind people that it would be nice to get some level ups for some skills and traits before the bosses.

I had an interesting run of Stone Vigil last night. I was the tank, there was a Smn who did what he was supposed to. The others guys though..haha. One was a level 48 Whm with lvl 1 accesories and overall mediocre gear in his other slots, and the Bard's rotation was Heavy shot nonstop, bloodletter on cd, and Misery's end. Timmy the Bard used no other abilities whatsoever besides those.

Potd was going pretty well despite someone was constantly pulling in mobs from everywhere. One floor they disappeared in another room while we were fighting. I turn to see them sprinting in with slimes behind them. All I got to say was "oh no.." and we all blew up.

I've only managed to get my bow from PoTD so far (about 5 full runs) and it's true you don't really need to kill everything, you'll easily get to 60 on lvls 40-50 even if you skip some, but I think of it like when someone asks for a full run of a dungeon. There's no need to freak out... at the very most they should only say "sorry, I want to rush through this, I should really make a speed running party and not expect everyone to conform to what I want to do"? :P
I do love going through a level super quick as a Manti though :)

Well that's why I left the parties I was in, I don't like not being 60 on the last set as the chest you get if you're not high enough will fail. Which means I'll have to add an extra run to that place, which is not very fun. Also why I'm just making my own parties for it now so I won't have to plan for extra runs when I don't need too. I have had groups I've been in not hit 60 until the last few floors and not get the upgrades I would've got if I was 60 before and it's not a good feeling at all.

Wow, I wasn't even sure that was possible! Did they let you fight anything?! That is crazy. I wish I had enough in game friends to form a party but i'm at the mercy of DF every day...

Skips like 90% of the rooms in all floors and yeah, it's totally possible. :c

2 whm, 1 astro, 1 blm, potd 31-40. The astro would always lure 2-4 monsters when we had our hands full with 1 or 2 monsters, i had to cleric stance so we had more firepower. This went on until we reached floor 37, that's when we almost wiped, and if i had healed any of them, the adds would of gone to me and we would of wiped. So i tell the astro to stop luring so many freaking god damn adds, he almost wiped us, i raise everyone and then has the nerve to reply 'Lol just play a DPS if you're gonna stick to cleric stance', now i tell myself, is this guy for REAL? I tell him, dude we're 3 healers and 1 blm, we need firepower, so this ends like that.

After a while i didn't notice anything, but as i was getting damaged, i saw that the only one healing me was the other whm and sometimes his blm friend wouldn't attack the target i would attack, and the astro was so salty from what i said that he didn't Heal/raise me once when it was needed, so i told him 'eh, so salty over that?', he didn't replied and it was like that until we finish the run.

He was lucky that his friend blm was with him, or i would of vote kick him.

Ohh man, just had the worst Aery run I've ever seen.

I've only ever tanked and dpsed it before with no problem, but this was my first time healing this dungeon, so...I was definitely a little nervous going in, especially since I decided to solo DF it.
I always seem to get Sastasha/Halatali/Totorak for leveling roulettes, but I'd done Sohm Al the other day with no deaths or wipes, and had been practicing with Trial Roulettes, so I thought I would give it a shot!

I immediately state that I'm pretty new to healing upon entering the dungeon, and the DRK says he'll make sure to stay in tank stance and pull smaller.
So we get to the first boss...and the 56 BLM, who isn't very geared, proceeds to get hit by literally every mechanic such that I have to heal them after nearly everything the boss does. The others are better, though damage is still going out everywhere, and only the BRD is dpsing the adds, so I unfortunately don't get to esuna the paralyzes very quickly.

Thanked the BRD for the mana songs afterward, which really helped, and then the same BLM whom I'd spent nearly the entire fight healing sarcastically thanks me for not esunaing her.
I understand the pain of interrupted casts, but I also do mention to be careful about electric cachexia and bringing the tethers to the towers, and they then swear at me.
DRK says to be nice to one's healers, to which the BLM replies not to anger DPS because they make fights faster.
...Which is fine and all, except for the fact that they often aren't DPSing. At some points, they even just stand back and do nothing. No ley lines or enochian to be seen during the entire duration of the dungeon. The tank's pulls take forever to die to the point that the tank's still taking hits from 5+ things after a few minutes and I actually run out of MP, and we wipe to the second-last trash mob before Nidhogg.
I get insulted by the BLM, and I apologize for the wipe and say I'll work on MP management, etc...and we manage to get through.

And when we get to Nidhogg, well...
The BRD gets sable price twice, and I'm literally the only one dpsing it (as healer), so they die both times. Everyone's really spread out across the area, so I have to heal each person individually as well, and the BLM keeps getting hit by the line aoes.
We wipe.
We try again, and I ask if it would be all right if everyone stayed a little closer together for aoe heals to make it a little easier for my noob healer self. But the positioning doesn't change, and this time, the BLM just stands there and does nothing.
The DRK ends up running over to help with the sable price this time, but we also end up taking extra damage afterward because we're all stacked and getting hit by fire breath.
We wipe again.

Felt really bad about not being able to heal through it, so I apologized for the wipes and said I could drop since I'm probably not ready for healing the Aery yet.
Never in the entire year and two months that I've been playing FFXIV have I ever been the first to drop a dungeon before, and I actually had really liked the Aery as a tank/dps, but I could see that they definitely needed a far more experienced healer; the DRK and BRD seemed fine, and I didn't want to hold them back, especially if my noob heals were the problem.

And, being honest here...having to silently endure all the swearing, insults, and namecalling from this one BLM throughout the entire dungeon really got to me after a while.
I'm normally quite confident in my own abilities, especially as a DRG/WAR/BRD, and I've weathered all sorts of people ingame who may not be the friendliest, so I was disappointed that I wasn't able to do it this time.

Felt a little better after having a good but embarrassing cry over it and PotDing afterward, though, so I'll see if I can improve before the next time I heal a HW dungeon!
I really hope they were able to find a good healer rep afterward.

From experience I'd say you should go do the dungeon again as a healer; I ran Aurum vale on my AST and we disbanned on the first boss because I literally could not heal them. Questioning whether it was me or them I went in a second time and healed it perfectly.
From the sounds of it the BLM was primarily at fault for you losing a lot of mana and people dying in the first place by not doing their job. I'm pretty sure if you run it a second time you'll heal it perfectly.

It's alot of pressure as a nervous and new healer to constantly have to babysit someone that really from the sounds of it is just phoning it in, while keeping an eye on mechanics and the tanks HP AND your own MP management.

The BLM should've been kicked. This whole story reminds me of the first time I ever ran Pharos Sirius, as a WHM in ilvl 130 gear.

I specifically mentioned I was new too, but nobody acknowledged this, nobody cared to explain boss mechanics, and the tank couldn't be bothered and insisted on doing huge pulls.

Even after we wiped multiple times. The only advice they had for me after dying yet again to a huge trash pull that nobody warned me about, was to "use Medica II". Which I'd already been using, since the first boss. I remember dying to trash, during a pull, before anyone else died.

When I mentioned that I was drawing heal aggro, the tank's only reply was something along the lines of "I'm tanking, so you don't have anything to worry about." Oh really? I have nothing to worry about when you won't explain anything and insist on doing huge pulls that you can't even maintain aggro on?

Sometimes I wonder just how delusional some people can truly get, with things like these. They can let the healer die, and somehow believe that makes them an awesome tank. It's almost amazing how they will rewrite reality the way they perceive it, so that the blame always falls on someone else and they can do no wrong.

Much less DF rather than PF, but the static's DRK didn't turn up so we decided to bird farm instead of A6S prog. Have a MNK join up via PF, and into Ravana we go.
Long story short, we got 8 birds in 26 total runs (7 for the static + the pf person, one for a friend whose birthday rolled around at midnight, one static member already had the bird), we had a bunch of laughs on TS, and the MNK left in sucha good mood despite being the last person to get their bird before the Birthday Bird runs (they were so surprised we didn't just disband after everyone got the bird but them!)

Made me kinda smile, even though dinner and me did certainly not agree and I spent 90% of these runs lightheaded and disoriented as hell.

It's 2:30am and physically I feel like I'm going to disengrate, but mentally I'm just humming Ravana phase 2 happily.

I wish more people knew this. I have also been blamed for not using Esuna on people who run into the poison clouds.

Once had two DPS who had 4 stacks of poison on that fight. It was so hard to keep everyone alive. At the end, they got angry at me for not removing the poison, but quickly apologized when I explained it cannot be removed.

There would be no reason to remove it if they had properly avoided it in the first place anyway.

Just did PotD floors 41-50. Got 4 silver chests and 3 were bombs. X_X

I actually had almost the exact opposite experience to you last night. I've also been going through those level dungeons as a healer, although luckily for me my bf is my tank (although I still get annoyed at him cause he runs off without stoneskin >.<). Then... the 3rd run... It might sound harsh but I really think our problem here was the 2nd dps, a BRD, which made me very sad as a main BRD. Final boss i'll admit I was finding it difficult to keep in range of both Tank & Estinien so when something happened and my bf's "living dead" didn't kick in and the bene i threw him went no where, we wiped pretty quickly... apologised and tried again.
This time we somehow didn't kill the dragons in time, I couldn't chuck out any dps as I was running oom from ressing BRD more than once, no shield, wipe. 3rd try, this time the BRD didn't attack the sable so the other dps, MNK who could take down a sable to save the BRD on her own, died. I tried to bring them back, messed up my swiftcast (so embarrassing :'() so had to hard cast, during which the BRD died too. Wipe again.

At this point it was nearly midnight and I had to get up at 6.30 for work so I said sorry and bf put through vote abandon. Then felt even worse because they rejected it, should we have said we queued together? Because then they lost tank and heal and would probably have to abandon anyway... oohh :( /guilt
Typing this out now I can see I made my fair share of mistakes... so now I feel bad... really hope I can clear it again tonight and clear my name too.

To the Aerys stories, hell i like this dungeon as a healer.
It's the only and real dungeon that give you the impression that healing is a really interesting/difficult job. I mean there are a lot of mechanics on the whole run and hell yeah i wiped a lot during my leveling phase, but i prefer to wipe and learn from my mistakes and Aery is a real challenge when u're new to healing.

Im sad for you guys that you get matched with stupid/afk DPS in the dungeon, but you should give it another try, it's really satisfaying to clear it when you had difficulties keeping your party alive ^^

Oh...my...god.

Just had the worst Castrum Meridianum ever. I don't even have the proper vocabulary to describe the badness!

First, three people do not understand the language they registered for. Both tanks, and a DPS.

First tank pulls all of mobs to the first boss, but doesn't get aggro on all of them. So some mobs begin attacking DPS.
Healers were amazing and somehow kept them alive. (I was in as Ninja, but I usually go as healer so I really appreciate their hard work!)

After the first boss, Paladin tank completely ignores the search light. Proceeds to pull all mobs EXCEPT mobs at searchlight.
That's the first time I have ever seen that!
So, almost all the DPS are both healers are standing at the searchlight, while single tank runs off into the distance. We run after him, but healers don't make it. He dies. 2nd tank picks up aggro. A healer revives first tank. 2nd tank dies. First tank regains aggro.

Move to the next area, and the tank only picks up half the mobs.
Then, the tanks and some DPS run to the first boss area...and just stand there twiddling their thumbs.

Anyway, one person says "You need to destroy the search light" in Japanese. So we point the tank to the search-light.
Again, the tank only takes aggro on two of the mobs.

So we pass the second boss, and then tank pulls the mobs before and after the cannons. All DPS are waiting at the cannons for the tank to come back.
He does not. So the healer is trying to heal the tank, but the tank dies.
2nd tank tries to pick up aggro and bring the mobs to the cannons. But the mobs use AoEs and destroy all the cannons and waiting DPS take massive damage.
So, 2nd tank dies.
And everyone dies. Maybe it's only the first time I have seen everyone die there. It was unbelievable.

So we revive and everyone uses warp point to return. Everyone goes back to the place we died.
Except the Paladin tank, who gets lost and runs ALL THE WAY BACK to the beginning.
So I tell him in English "[name] you are going the wrong way."

And then he begins cursing.
And then he tells us to use the cannons.
Which is strange, because he didn't even try to pull the mobs back to the cannons.
So someone says the cannons were destroyed and he gets angry.

Next he asks "Is this a Japanese server or an English server?" (I think he meant Data Center, but okay.)
I say "Japanese."
And he says "Does the other tank speak English?"
I say "French."
He says "That's better."

Kind of a strange comment. I guess he doesn't like Japanese? I wonder why he plays on Japanese data center then and registers for Duty Finder in Japanese then? What an oddball!

So one of the healers says "Both tanks are so terrible it's not even funny!"
And then the Paladin tank totally goes bonkers and curses a lot.

Right before the final boss, both tanks are losing control of mobs and DPS are getting massive damage. Thanks to healers we survive.

At the end, neither tank was pulling the boss. Some DPS began swearing at the tank to pull, but tank just stands there. So other tank pulls.

We finally clear it.

But I am too scared to use DUty Finder for main scenario quests again.

But please PLEASE allow us to block players from other servers.
I NEVER want to be in a party with that terrible bad-mouthed incompetent tank again!

Start 60 Roulette.

ARF every time.

You can use the up and down arrow pad to cycle through the party list. Hit X to hard target and just leave the name highlighted to soft target

It'll let me do that with the party but not Estinian since he's not technically in your party, the only way i've found to target it by clicking on him. Which was a scary lesson I learnt during the Training Hall thing for healer >.<

Use Focus Target and assign a key / button to switch to your focus target.

Right, I usually hard target him at the start of the add phase then soft target the party or toss an aoe regeneration so I don't lose him when the adds swarm

Like I said in my reply before, I totally agree with you, when you get an ok party :P It's definitely one of the first dungeons that really pushes you to use your full current skillset as a healer and feel like you're actually more than just an extra dps who occasionally chucks a regen on the tank.

Ah! Thank you both :) I always forget there's focus target to use... But yeah I usually do click him at the start and just scroll through/soft target the rest of the party when they need a heal. It's just so awkward if I don't have my mouse at the time >.<

opener, DRG is tanking, elusive jump, let the tank grab some aggro, get back into it. nudging the tank for aggro again, no jump, no litany, so a very halfassed 'opener'

fireball phase
bard is doing almost nothing
Half the fireballs explode because they're not dead, wipe, restart
Bard is Lvl59, no minuet up, so I asked them about it
we don't have minuet, (french player, so the conversation was kinda meh)

2nd & 3rd run same, abandon :/

Get an in-progress, at last boss Aery as DRG. SMN is the other dps. I greet my party, go about our business, and then I notice that dps seems reeeeeally slow. Then it hits me, "oh, there are no diseases up."

Oh no.


I probably should've guessed something was up when I saw there was only 30 mins left in the duty. Now, I'm starting to see why the other dps left. I try to give the SMN a quick rundown before we give it another shot. "Try and keep your 3 DoTs up so you can use fester, make sure you use your pet abilities/buffs, etc etc" SMN says okay and we're about to give it another shot, I notice that the tank seems annoyingly supportive of the SMN. Then I see that they have the same last name. Probably bf and gf? husband and wife? Who knows, but at this point I have now fully realized the hell I have gotten myself into.

We give it another shot. No DoTs ever went up. Just Ruin 2. And more Ruin 2. I get targeted by sable price. SMN keeps attacking Nidhogg. Healer tries to break me out, but I die. I play on pad so by the time I picked up keyboard up to call the SMN, the cast was like halfway done. We ended up wiping.

Tank asks what happened. "Well, uh...no one broke me out and the healer ran out of mana so..."

Tank: "C'mon healer you gotta be faster than that"

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

To which I reply "They were trying, but it probably would've helped if the SMN joined in."

SMN: "I was trying."

Nope, no you weren't.

Tank: "It's okay, we got it this time."

We give it another go. SMN casts tri-disaster once. Never see any other DoTs after that. I also notice SMN doesn't even have a pet out. Healer lets Estinien die.

Tank: "omg we can't do anything with this ****ing healer. I quit."

Ladies and gents, I know you just want to kick back and have a good time with your SO, but...like...you don't have to coddle them.

You need to set up targetting filters.

They're used with L1 and one of the face buttons.

I have L1+Square as 'allies' which will let me cycle through party members, npcs, and other players with left and right on the dpad.


Character Configuration -> Control -> Filters Tab

Thank you! I'll start setting that up tonight :) I think they've done a good job translating the game controls onto the ps4 but there's definitely still a few things that are a bit more awkward than on PC. Sorry to everyone else for all the off topic posts i've started

Ah! Thank you both :) I always forget there's focus target to use... But yeah I usually do click him at the start and just scroll through/soft target the rest of the party when they need a heal. It's just so awkward if I don't have my mouse at the time >.<

I use focustarget always, on every duty, Estinien is the only focus I use that's not a boss. I play on ps4 too and I have the L3 button assigned to execute macro 99, which I customized to be /target <f>. That way I can easily switch to my current focustarget.

I'm not sure what really happened in your party, since you mentioned some deaths. But when i'm healing the aery, i only need to heal estinien at around adds phase especially when the three drakes strike unless of course the fight gets on too long.. However, i had a run where one of the DPS (SMN)was having ilvl 55 gears and a few lv 33 gears with only around 3000 HP.. And the phase change was still sorta fine.. That way, you don't need to get panic with healing both tank/estinien..

LOOL Man POTD is pure cancer at this point. The fact people still think that rushing is the best way to go. I got kicked from the last group cause they were worried about time, which is a valid worry. But it's on them.. when they get to the last set at level 53 they will have to start over from level 1 wondering why. God, I really hate this place... one more weapon and I'll be completely done with this place .. forever.

Signed up for a lvl 50 in progress this morning and got Pharos Sirius in progress, 11 minutes in. There was a SCH and a MCH in there waiting. I think the other tank must have nope'd right outta there when he zoned in because it was 11 min and only the first set of adds was dead.

We wiped twice at the first boss. I really hate that dungeon... toughed it out, went for the boss a third time despite being skeptical of our clear chances, and we made it that time. After that I kept pulls small, adjusting to the group dynamic, and we didn't have any other problems and cleared with no further issues. So for the tank who abandoned those folks, it was really not bad at all, and you lost out on a couple comms.
