I haven't kept up on it but that's sad. The bosses seemed fantastic but the mount and gear are just god awful ugly.

Game's got issues and has always had them. Problem is, what those issues are and how to address them are going to very per individual, with the more hardcore trending toward a vocal minority whose demands aren't going to be in line with the silent majority.
Personally, I only sub periodically because I'm not a fan of time gating and this sentiment was fostered the moment they added tomestone gear back in 2.whatever. From my perspective, it's contradictory to promote a system of being able to level all classes on a single character only to prohibit them all from reaching their max potential arbitrarily. Doesn't matter if the best stuff technically isn't needed, it's still an artificial limitation intentionally designed to string out subs over a couple months. I've had people try to tell me this is a good thing because they don't want no-lifers being max gear in a day, when my thought there has pretty much always been, "So?" They're going to burn themselves out no matter what and consistently demand more no matter how much they're pandered to. Infinite grind may be hyperbole, but there is a point where some lose track of what's reasonable to the average player. More raids, savages, ultimates, and so on simply aren't going to fix the game when these people are already operating from a warped perspective that lends itself to the sentiment that a game is only good if it's your only game at the expense of all others.
The above may not be my only beef with the game, but it's just one that's been around virtually forever. I indulge in the story content between a mix of JRPG shortage and those that do come out being to my taste. Even when I'm not subbed, I do check on the forums periodically and have to wonder if some folks have played the same game I have based on very questionable and tenuous takes, but sometimes I need to remind myself that the US education system has been on the decline since the 80s and I'm probably reading the prattle of folks 10+ years my junior. So sometimes it's not just a matter of preference, but life experience and exposure to other media that can help fill in gaps or provide more nuanced analysis. Those thinking we should've been able to take the Garlean side throughout game events or that there should be significantly branching narrative don't really grasp how non-viable that is in the MMO sphere and a more PvE-centric game in particular. And while I don't disagree that something like BG3 is a good thing and ideally a new bar for future game development, genres are still going to have their norms (even if they should be challenged to avoid stagnation) and the parasitic nature of shareholders are still going to inhibit artistic freedom.
Tomestone issue aside, if you were to ask me what I'd like to see in the game, it'd pretty much be to make the open world matter as a counter to "exploration zones" or lack thereof, to basically give us a persistent Ishgard restoration kind of activity on crack for crafters/gatherers that can facilitate growth of wealth and acquisition of unique things without reliance on the RMT infested AH, complete overhaul of the glamour/dye system, overhaul the music creation system so people can program their own tunes with multiple instruments that can be added to personal orchestrions, and throw the current housing system in the trash can and give us truly instanced systems alongside elective neighborhood building among friends. I've got things I'd like to do to classes and rotations, too, but that's too much of a topic for a random paragraph blurb and would fundamentally disagree with the current endgame alignment. Basically, more dungeons and raids we'd all want to rush through ASAP aren't on the menu, and some things I'm considering more for the enjoyment of others than myself. Will these happen? Probably not. But I have no issue playing other games and won't lament when this one finally loses that appeal to return. I won't lament that day because I refused to let any sort of addiction take root, am not trying to pander to some streamed audience when I do play, and certainly don't conform to the whims of the often-exaggerated "community" mob that could just as easily be a bunch of trolls trying to make things worse with how easy anonymity is to manipulate on the net.
We already know the patch cycle to a T
6.5 late September/October- most of the rest of the story, last dungeon, trial and alliance raid
6.55 January- last V/C dungeon, tiny bit more story
7.0 late summer
So by April it will be 6 months since 6.5 (I barely even count 6.55 as a patch here compared to 5.55 that gave us Zadnor or 4.55 which gave us hydatos) and about 4 months till 7.0, if you are super generous and call 6.55 a patch it’ll still be 7 months from 6.55 to 7.0 and at the time of 6.5 releasing it’ll be 4.5-5 months since 6.4
So yes there will be periods of 6 months between patches and what is being offered between now and 7.0 is frankly embarrassing
You are assuming there wont be a patch in between. I am fairly sure they are well aware of the possible gap. Have a little faith, yeah?Quote:

You mean things like patch 6.38 where they only make small adjustment for pvp job actions, relieving abyssos savage's loot restrictions, and fixing a couple of bugs that they indirectly created themselves/slipped through their QA check without offering additional content to do? lol
I think October 3rd is the date of 6.5 going off of the live letter announcement for part 2. I believe V/C and crafter/gatherer relic are 6.51 this time and battle and whatever else the 6.55 so this patch layout is a little different. Comparing to other X.5 patches there isn’t really much difference outside of the other 2 expansions having the exploration zone and relic being tied to them. Granted that did artificially inflate playtime though so il give you that and also you wrote late summer it’s just summer for now it could be whenever in there so don’t make something up that we don’t know.
For me personally there is so much I want to play I’m glad 14 isn’t going to fight for my time in that regard till Dawntrail lol but I obviously wish people had the avenues of engagement for the long term.
Then why do you think I'm wrong, but you're somehow right, despite that you admit that you know just as little as I do?
The real difference between us is that you're quick to judge self-righteously and dismiss me for being "totally negative" as you basically stick your head in the sand, meanwhile I'm just giving Squeen the credit they deserve for their past performance (see also: every patch cycle where there has been a significant lull between release dates of either patches or the expansion. What do these times have in common? You guessed it! Mogtomes).
Are you just talking about FFXIV, or in General?
Either way, I think Im pretty set.
Since I dont religiously play FFXIV and ALL of its content, I got plenty to do and catchup on.
Then there is IRL stuff to do.
Take a lil break to try out some other games. Come back for the patch updates....yeah I think time will fly by for me personally.
Thats just me though.
And hey, if they got some good rewards, Ill look foreword to the next Moogletrove event as well.
I liked this one, grinded out 330 for lots of things.
The responses in this thread are just embarrassing, very GCBTW.
Endwalker is objectively the worst expansion patch content wise up there with the first half of HW. I don’t even know how you could argue this point. I do like parts of island santuary, hildi, and the deep dungeon, but if we get another expac with a non existent relic series and a lack of midcore large scale endgame content it would be a bad situation. I think it says a lot that people are hoping that the Dawntrail is different from Endwalker.
I have just been keeping up with content out of obligation in hopes that DT will be better tbh
I'm going to ignore the sheer tomfoolery that's steered away from healthy discussion and just throw in my two cents.
I really like this game, I want to see it succeed, and I want more of a reason to engage with it for longer periods of time, I pay $15 a month to access it. This however is hard to do in Endwalker when most of the content seems almost deliberately designed to be one and done, clearing it out in a few weeks at best. Regardless of what you think of Zepla, or her status as a streamer, I agree with quite a few of her complaints and think that there is merit in meaningfully discussing it.
I do think the relic weapon being done through tomestones was a terrible decision and goes against one of the core reasons the feature exists in the first place while simultaneously ridding the game of something that can really hold players over during the patches (And before anyone makes the burnout or FOMO complaint, you can always go back and do the relics at any time, and probably EASIER than release). I do think that some of the better designed content released lacks the staying power it would have with older expansions, and that they did not think the itemization through enough to keep people interested. I do think the story they decided to tell for the patch MSQ, while nice and nostalgic for ff4 players, has become kind of a slog and I just want it to be over; I was actually far more interested in pandaemonium's story than the MSQ.
These are just a few things I hope they keep in mind going forward to dawntrail. FF14 makes a killing for square, invest that money back in the game to see it is taken care of and improved as they've been doing for 7.0
Eh, I don't think the wait between 6.55 and 7.0 will be any worse than the wait between 5.55 and 6.0. Was almost 7 months from the end of ShB till EW launching and going by a January 6.55 release and assuming July release of DT will be a similar wait.
I honestly agree, the best answer is to unsub for almost a year until about a week until DT drops and take a few hours to knock out all of patch 6.5 and 6.55 content.
And what big chunky and grindy piece of content did 5.55 release
You can personally not like field content but by 6.0 70% of level 80 characters had access to Zadnor, in EW the equivalent is another C/V dungeon
Hell dalriada alone is basically equivalent to what we will get in 6.55
Nope, incorrect post. There's a ton of content to do in FFXIV. This is the best MMO right now. Still better than WoW. I have a ton of things to do like run Rival Wings 3,000 times and replay the MSQ on all five of my alts. And when you're done with the game, just go play something else or go outside IRL. You....DO go out, don't you? You DO have other games, right? Me personally, I'm fine just playing the game one or two hours a week every other month or so. It's just FFXIV, this isn't like Starfield or AC6 or BG3 or some other real game that you're actually supposed to enjoy playing. It's just FFXIV. Like, come on man. Besides, $13 a month is basically free. I mean, that's like the price of a latte these days haha. Don't tell me you expected more.
It's just FFXIV.

Im still going to be playing off and on. I play in bursts anyway so I dont burn myself out.
Im gonna keep up and all of that and just do some content I havent done yet. Then...idk, maybe ill have between 60-90 days of downtime before DT drops. Depending on things, and if I didnt already play the other games I wanna play.

My thoughts on EW content:
VARIANT
My main issue with this besides the lack of longevity is that runs are tedious solo due to the speed but with PUGs you end up doing a route you’ve already done and slow exploration and puzzle solving doesn’t gel with group play. Since we didn’t get exploration content I wish there were more actions besides the handful we got. Getting more actions as loot each run would have increased replayability. Relic content would have been even better. Just anything to not make it disposable.
Island Sanctuary
I think it has good rewards and the outdoor furnishing was a great addition, but the main workshop gameplay loop is awful. I actually tried figuring out how to plan out my schedule without outside help but it’s just not feasible at all so I did what everyone else does and copy and paste from discord. They are adding that unique delivery system per player but that is too little too late. They should honestly scrap the whole workshop system for something more relaxed but with more agency.
Relics
Please stop trying to defend this one people. You can get multiple relics just by doing expert and normal raids when each week. It’s not even content and defeats the whole purpose of relic. The hildi quests are great this expansion at least.
Deep Dunegon
This is fine actually imo. I think it’s a well executed iteration of your typical deep dungeon, but Zepla makes a good point that they need to shake it up more and add more rogue lite elements and that the content has unfulfilled potential. Making it bad for leveling is an odd choice too since now EW has real leveling alternative for 80-90 unlike other expansions. The minion system (forgot what it was called) is a step in the right direction.
MSQ
I am one of the ones who actually quite likes the MSQ in 6.x.
PVP Rework
I think this was a net positive overall. The battle pass has had consistent good rewards and keeps people playing it. Ranked is dead though because once you get the title and framer kit from Crystal you don’t want to subject yourself to that again (this was me). I think what this needs in the future is more modes besides push the crystal and a complete rework or even replacement of frontline. I would even consider making it just a medium sized version of CC for balance
I'm kinda in this boat too- very very midcore at best content is what I like. Like I didn't really love Bozja/Eureka, but it was something we could goof around with over a month or so.
Island Sanctuary was a time sync, but I can't say I'd ever do it again on an alt. And I don't really -want- to mess with it after I've gotten my rewards.
I hope DT is great, but I've kinda already decided this will likely be the first time I unsub once I finish the MSQ. It just makes more financial sense to save the 1 year sub money and come back around patch 7.55 right before 8.0 launches unless there is really something solid I want to play with.
Honestly, I had though VDs would have been more in line with FF11's "dungeons". Or old school Everquest. That is to say, a huge sprawling Dungeons-and-Dragons esque complex, with no set path or really goal. I had expected a large-ish instance where you could explore as you like, go to parts you want to try and find treasure chests or unlock doors or challenge monsters.
Maybe something like FF11's Dynamis where you go where you want, but time is limited.

Never assumed that. Said we dont know. We dont. However unlike you, I dont go gloom and doom all over it. Im content to wait and see what eventuates.Quote:

How about we wait and see what happens? Makes no sense to borrow trouble where none exists.
The thing I hate about these videos/threads/topics is there is just zero relativity from people. Its either perfect or worst game ever released. Have these sorts of people ever played other video games?
I love FF14, I have played LOTS, like LOTS, of other MMOs (which I also loved for different reasons) and I am well aware of its superior and inferior design decisions. It's pretty reasonable to say that for 80% off the people 80% of the design philosophy is really really good. However, even the most stalwart fan should be able to admit some level of non-perfection, the same way the doomers should grow up and admit that the faults are not all encompassing and catastrophic. There will also be a handful for whom the design choices are deal breakers, that's fine, no MMO is the Jesus MMO. However, as a total package seen from 40,000ft there are VERY few MMOs that make as many consistently fun and player conscious design decisions, the 80% good well out-weighs the 20% bad for the significant majority. Does that mean we can't discuss the 20% bad? No, go for it, but be measured and reasonable and not a 12 year old doomer (or an unhinged white knight). But we all know that this forum in particular has a large population (proportionally) of shit stirrers and 12 year old panic-merchants so that ain't likely to happen.
Is the FF14 glam system an inferior design to say WoW or BDO? Sure, obviously without even discussing it. Is it a critical game destroying issue? No, clearly not. I think the Island Sanctuary was a significant waste of resources but I don't hate the fact it's there or begrudge people who like it, I'm not the only person here and 100% of the resources of the game don't need to be devoted purely to stuff I like, if I think like that I have to accept that the people sitting on the Island are right when they say PVP (which I enjoy) is a waste of time.
You missed the sarcasm I think. What she meant was that streamers follow the the money and always wiull., If FF 14 content will get her views and subscriptions, especially on Twitch, then FF 14 will be "the best it has ever been"..until the money slows down to a trickle and then its off to the next one.
Look at MikePreach. He liked FF 14..where is he now?

My RETURN to Retail WoW After 15 Months!
Quote:
Also, if you weren't aware Blizzard has released their own displates for Warcraft and you should definitely consider using our discount link in the doobles if you're thinking of getting one. We're also sorting out an agreement with Blizz to make our own licensed WoW ones as well, so hopefully in the new year I'll be able to paint up some cool designs of our own.

Casting a furtive glance to the side, he then offers his can of Pringles to a puzzled Ion Hazzikostas, game director for WoW, who replies “didn’t you quit?” A spurned Preach replies “I didn’t say that,” as the camera pans up to show off the statue.
If learning from past experiences is what defines doom and gloom in your world, then, I guess proof about bliss being in ignorance really does lie in the pudding.
I'm not entirely sure what this is supposed to mean, but, sure.Quote:
Look at all your posts on the topic and tell me that.
After reviewing the few posts on this topic, that I have personally made, I will return and tell you that you are, as I said before, still quick to judge self-righteously and be dismissive while you stick your head in the sand. When that happens, I don't know, but past experience might tell you what's really going to happen if you ever learn to believe in that sort of thing (being the positive person that I am not, apparently).
But I did remember that they're going to do that Fall Guys collab, so there's that, too, I guess.
I'm honestly not sure why you guys are even still wasting your energy replying to them when I posted a lengthy constructive criticism on Endwalker a while ago (which got totally nuked out of general discussion, since it was pre NA fanfest...I think), which included the good, meh, and bad of this expansion thus far. They're response to this was to completely discard my efforts because I dared to include that I was enjoying, and still would if I so returned to it, WoW's Dragonflight expansion because "Blizzard bad". They even stated they think this game is perfect and doesn't need changes (in this thread)...for whatever reason, because that's sure why 1.0 needed to be completely redone, huh? Surely only giving positive feedback and nothing but positive feedback is how we got ARR.
Here's the thread if anyone is curious to check it out https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...alker-thus-far
However, content creators returning to new expansion is true. It would be undeniably stupid not to make the content when it's richest. Although...Zepla never actually quit the game, though. She took a break and I honestly would not blame her if she took another one. Might as well wait until 6.55 and leave the current content drops alone until then because at least you'll have content to run before Dawntrail launches.
We are in the same exact scenario WoW was however long ago. People shoving their heads in the sand and covering their ears because "everything is fine guys, StoP CoMpLaiNiNg. JusT UnSub". Which is fine and all, until it isn't and it starts taking longer and longer and longer for your queues to fill and whatever else.
So you already know exactly what will happen between now and 7.0. Got it.:rolleyes:Quote:
If learning from past experiences is what defines doom and gloom in your world, then, I guess proof about bliss being in ignorance really does lie in the pudding.
Pretty much yes because 14 never strays from its patch cycle, they plan ahead, that doesn’t mean they plan to have gaps that they then fill when one patch before the gap they realise people are sick of the lack of content
We know what’s coming between now and 7.0, hoping for anything more is high tier copium
Well we know pretty well what's coming, we've got 6.5 with what looks to be the base we'd expect for a odd numbered patch plus some IS content, 6.51 will give us a new variant and the crafter and gatherer relics and then after the new year we'll get 6.55 with relics and the rest of the story and at some point we'll get a combined EW beast tribe arc.
The only other content we know of is the Fall Guys cross over coming at some point
They also really weren't subtle, either. off the top of my head we're getting (before 7.0):
- MSQ, obviously. (6.5)
- Dungeon and trial (6.5)
- The next [very likely] comically under-tuned alliance raid (6.5)
- The usual gatherer/crafter updates if any (feel free to list them, because despite leveling them I am by no means a hand/land enthusiast) (6.5)
- The next variant and criterion. (with having little to no hope they actually adjusted the rewards, if we've learned anything from the first and second criterion) (6.51)
- Fall guys collab
- Final one or two stages of the hildibrand "relics" which is probably just going to be 1500 tomes again lmao (6.55)
- That bonus trial that, correct me if I'm wrong, is scheduled for 6.55?
- Spreadshe- I mean Island Sanctuary updates (6.5?)
I don't want to get into theoreticals, but yes there is potential for a XVI collab before Dawntrail launch.
Even this post can be summed up by what James and Snow said before me. It's the usual, we already know what to expect.
Could they add more in? Sure, but we have no reason to expect they will.
You really think there going to make a patch 6.6 and get out of there normal schedule for a contingency plan to help people not get bored. None of the other expansions got a .6 patch what makes you think endwalkers will.I can tell you recently started playing during shadowbriners or endwalkers there has always been a 6 month gap between the .5 patch and the next expansion and they never released a .6 patch. There not going to change that now.
We can also ignore the terrible opinions presented by others. XIV is a fantastic game I play every single day. Imagine coming to a forum devoted to a game. Imagine spending every breath spreading negativity about said game. People of that ilk need help. If you are unhappy move on with your life. The game will go on just fine without you.
