The reason I like Limited Jobs is that it's the perfect opportunity to add BONUS CONTENT. Like, right now, I'm leveling scholar, and I'm enjoying scholar... but the progression of scholar is the same as every single damn class in the game. Join duty finder, do a dungeon, get XP, rinse and repeat. Every now and then I do a five minute quest to get a skill. However, progression with Blue Mage was different and unique. It was FUN, in a way that you probably couldn't allow in a normal class.
Limited jobs are intended to be designed around a different progression system. In the case of Blue Mage, you progress and fill out your spell collection by hunting down and fighting specific monsters. In future jobs, progression might be tied to something like collecting minions or mounts. Since limited jobs are somewhat "isolated" from the other jobs, they don't have to worry about silly things like "balance" or "consistency", either. Limited jobs are under no obligation to function in any way similarly to the baseline jobs, which is GOOD, because sometimes I want something DIFFERENT AND WACKY.
