I agree with some people, Spider man = Blue Mage
I still want Samurai to be a DPS spec. I think we will have to wait for 5.0 to hopefully see Dancer (melee combat healer) and Samuri as DPS hopefully
So, couple things. A friend made a point that in the stormblood teaser, the MC and Mysterious MNK clash with two energy colors, Red and BLUE!
But also, apparently US Square Enix posted and then deleted this from their twitter! (They then replaced the tweet but without the mention of how many jobs.) At this point...I give up. I'm just gonna roll with the punches on this...

It's classified as ranged but it's a Hybrid, Which is literally stated on the second slide.
Also apparently Yoshi-P said something about RDM being one of the TWO new jobs to be released. I have my fears their rotating back to Melee DPS..
I saw this but held back mentioning it... Because of how silly the mods can be.
LOOOL
If only two new classes, and they are BOTH dps. Good luck queuing for stuff. If they haven't come up with another way to get into dungeons, they single-handily destroyed leveling lol.
Another point I've seen for Spider-Man being for Blue Mage. Spider-Man's Rogues Gallery consists of A LOT of animal themed villains. Doctor Octopus, The Vulture, The Rhino, The Lizard, and while a bit of a stretch, Kraven the Hunter.
I really, really hope Two is just a typo or mis-information...or a tease.
Honestly I think we will be getting what I've always thought we would be getting 2 DPS, a INT based class and a STR based class to fill out the roster of 3 classes per Primary stat (not including piety).
VIT - DRK/WAR/PLD
MND - WHM/AST/SCH
INT - BLM/SMN RDM
DEX - NIN/BRD/MCH
STR - DRG/MNK SAM?
As for the Spider Man shirt... I honestly think the Sam Raimi connection is more likly than "spider bites peter parker sooo clearly blue mage" or (dont get me wrong its hilarious) "Spider Man?!? New disciples of the land job: Photographer"
Also for those worrying about Q times with 2 new DPS. I really dont think it will be that bad.... mainly cause A the jobs Start at 50 (was on slides tho this is tentative). B with content like deep dungeon out there and other alternatives, you can power through levels really quickly without the need of say a healer or a tank (so get ready for the 2 rdm 2 sam deep dungeon runs!)
By the way, they did edit or change that post it seems. So perhaps not limited to 2 new jobs, just sharing the updated post.

We already have 3 classes using heavy weapons >.> - all tanks!
Well Red Mage is the DPS Job so guessing Samurai is the Tank

Just wanted to throw my two cents in the whole "make Samurai a tank in 40" debate.
SAM should not a be a tank, I said this before in my other thread I made *Cause I DIDN'T SEE THIS ONE GRR* is that, they said already that balancing 3 tanks were hard enough for them, adding 4 would just be a nightmare for them. If they make this class overpowered, everyone would take SAM class over the other and if its underpowered, nobody would play it. And remember doing that time it was always WAR/Drk doing the raiding scene cause paladins were crap leaving them in the dust, they made to make a FIGHT just for paladins alone for them to shine in but in the end. There's a reason why 47% people play drks and 28% play paladins.
By this logic they shouldn't have added DRK at all then, since when the game re-launched, Warriors were crap and left in the dust until SE fixed them. It's called balance, and it will always shift and change and it's never perfect. People will usually always gravitate towards the stronger jobs, or ones that are easier to play, or more interesting, or thematically cool. You say they had to make a fight just for PLD to shine, yet plenty of endgame HW bosses were seemingly specifically designed to make DRK shine, almost like they wanted people to play the new job more...how about that.
imagine this though, you'll only see everyone in mor dhona 4.0 or every other city people be on their SAM, cutting each other :D that would look way more like war than the whole dragonwar in heavensward :D totally for it :P so lets open another " useful" thread with the title "@Naoki Yoshida- Make Samurai a Healer class" that ones still missing :p
^That would be so beautiful !
We need to make that thread ! ( * ^*)9
Or Overwatch :

Picture this. We implement a Parry tank
In the same expansion
That we REMOVE Parry!
3/4 sword tank jobs in a game where tanking is incredibly boring while we still don't have a sword dps? Please don't ruin it.
PLD and DRK are largely interchangeable in raid comps, another dps-centric tank to rival WAR would be lovely. I think above that though, I want to see the absolute fallout and descent into chaos making SAM a tank would do to the forums. Healthy doses of a balanced tank meta, reasonable queue times and OF schadenfreude sounds like the ultimate win-win-win to me.
No, but not adding another tank will make it boring for tanks.
Expansion hits, DPS get 2+ jobs, tanks and/or healers get none.
Good job. You gave people more incentive to not play tanks and/or healers.
The tank meta might improve but tanks are still going to be really, really boring if the 100% DPS meta continues to stick and they don't address it with sweeping changes. Tank makes the most sense for SAM, it sucks that we have to get yet another sword tank but if they insist on adding SAM then it's gotta be a tank. I'd prefer them not to add SAM at all at this point and keep it for a later expansion, but whatever's been decided has already been decided.
There is literally nothing healthy about the idea of pigeonholing tanks into "main tank jobs" and "off tank jobs". The goal should be for them to have their own unique identity while bringing appropriate tools (but not identical ones) regardless of which role they take in battle.
And why you think SAM is only sword class ? Samurai can equip Sasumata, Yari with Shield or not. Don't forget, DK use scythes on FF XI and great sword on FF XIV.
DRKs had never used Scythes before FFXI. In fact, scythes were not even a weapon classification at all until then either. Even then, DRK in FFXI were pretty much just as good with Greatswords still as they were with Scythes. Samurai, if added, will not use something other than a katana. That's part of the whole allure to adding them and has been in pretty much every iteration. Katana is often it's own weapon class in most Final Fantasy that feature it.
I was thinking, if SAM is released and is a DPS. And we only get 2 DPS in this expansion, what would that mean for 5.0? Surely we would get a Tank and Healer? But a big argument people make about adding DPS is their appeal and their selling point for new players, as DPS is the most open and have the least responsibilities (In casual content). Going by this logic 5.0 would either see 3 new jobs AGAIN or 2 new jobs... and 1 would have to be a DPS. Leaving either Tank or Healer in the dark for FOUR YEARS. This doesn't seem like a healthy decision for the game.
I still believe SAM has a 50/50 of either DPS or Tank but that doesn't mean I think it's the right decision. But I've heard some fair-ish arguments... like how there is a pattern to how they've been adding Jobs so far. Melee DPS - NIN, Ranged DPS - MCH, Tank - DRK, Healer - AST. And now back to Melee. Or how currently we have 2 str, 2 int, 3 dex, 3 mnd and 3 vit. So adding SAM - Str and RDM - Int, would balance the attributes.
We'll know for sure in 2 months, and I'll physically be at the event this time! I personally really want SAM to be a Tank but I've prepared myself to not be disappointed since DRK was given Tank, meh.
Just my input on the matter anyways.
+ Said it a million times, I really hope it doesn't use a 2-handed Katana but Dual wields Katana's, DPS or Tank, mainly because as a Tank we have enough 2 handers and as DPS... so I can laugh at them getting another dual wielding job, I kid. But seriously 2-handed Katana is so typical and boring IMO, but I'll still use it becauseI'm a filthy weebI love the aesthetics of Samurai
I don't see the point in your comment or the twisting of my words. I really don't mind if it uses a 2-handed Katana, and honestly not the point of my comment anyways, was just a plus I decided to put in.
Anyways if you want to make a point about it then why not.
First off, Zenos to me is clearly using Katana's, more then one. The Garleans have had a track record of borrowing weapons and job assets to form their own kind of class.
First we had Nero who uses MRD animations but uses a GunHammer instead. Then you have Regula van Hydrus who uses a 2-Handed Gun-Greatsword. And now from the looks of it, Zenos using a Revolver Scabbard of sorts, I'm thinking he's going to borrow assets from SAM.
Also 1 Great Katana already exist in the game, which is the DRK Law one, it's even stated in the Lore Book. Anyways I don't really want to argue this because at the end of the day I don't really mind what weapon they use, I just like the aesthetics of SAM in general, like stated.
