I'm staying (my first post, does it matter?). I've actually been playing since the pre-release beta, and saw the potential this game had. The previous dev team didnt even begin to tap the potential, but Yoshi and his team have turned this game into so much more than it was. Hell, i was willing to pay for the game back when it first released, so i'm damned sure going to pay for it now!
I'm here to tell you that I have no lag problems. I got my rounter replaced a few months back and have been lag free.
Now I'm sure people do have lag I'm not saying they don't. But they might want to.
A: Have the rounter they use check out or replace.
B: Look at the system they are using and see if they could replace something.
C All of the above.
And just a little fact most companys that provide the net will often move older customers over to other more populated line to make room for new customers so that the new costomers will have top speeds.
Old costomer gets moved to more populated line means slower speeds.
I myself will call my provider ever few months to have a tech come out and check my speeds it's free I just need to be home.
Everytime that tech comes out I'm aways left with a better speed than before.
Also the only person here looking like an imbecile is you for not knowing what your freaking talking about.
How do you know that person doesn't have a bad router? Me telling him it could be bad and him calling to have it checked out might fix his problems.
It's not about whether or not ppl can afford it lol....it's the concept of it, guys. I think everyone can "afford" to not eat 2 of the 30+ meals they probably spend 15 bucks on every month. But who can JUSTIFY paying SE FULL PRICE for a game that isn't even close to presentable. Like the OP said, this game is, essentially, still in it's beta test. SE ruined any chances of us "bearing the burden" of their debt with them, when they decided to put corporate greed ahead of customer satisfaction. Paying full price for this game is telling them, "you've managed to earn my trust and respect back" -and, that, certainly, is not the case with me. I would sooner BURN 15 dollars every month, than put it towards this game. I don't mind paying like...half-price or something. That, at least, is some sort of concession on SE's part. As of right now, they're saying: "we walked all over you once before, and we're going to do it again...if you don't like it, then leave. We'll make plenty of money off of the other <insert crude insult here>."
It doesn't matter how large the community is if they aren't willing to support the game.
Games aren't cheap to develop. Over the few years before its release a lot of money will have been spent on its development. Since its release we've has 1 year of free play, with SE continuing to support it, both through its on going development, the full scale development of a new version and the support and moderation of the community through the site, forums and regular interviews with fan sites.
SE is still a company and can only survive if they're making money. If something is being so much of a money sink with no returns it wouldn't be viable for them to continue to support it.
Most of the people complaining that the game isn't worth paying for yet have continued to play the game for over 1 year since its launch, and have probably put in several hundred hours of game play.
With version 2.0 another year away, paying the wages of the 250+ staff working both on the current version and the future version is going to cost a lot more for SE which leaves SE with several choices. Take the losses they've incurred already and shut down the game; continue to pour money in to the development and incur even more losses in the hope of recouping them later; or start charging now.
After one year, most of the players who really didn't enjoy the game should have already stopped playing. Therefore, the amount of players lost SHOULD be relatively small, though as we can see of these forums there are a few that still like to linger. That is why polls on fan sites can be more skewed than the ones here, because here you're only seeing what will be lost in the future, not those who have left already.
Would people on the fan sites come back if the game continued to be free? Probably not otherwise they would have come back already. While many may come back after the version 2.0 release, SE have already announced that another free trial will be offered then in order for those prospective players to see if they want to return after than point.
Even with the "polls" on this site, the sample size is fairly small. To take this thread as an example, only ~600 have voted. Much smaller than the current community, though on the fan sites I've seen, their sample sizes were even smaller. Many people choose to just continue to play and not bother with forums on either the official or unofficial sites.
From the start, FFXIV has been planned to be a subscription based game. People knew what they were signing up for. I think some of those complaining are likely to be those that joined after they found out about the extended free period and thought they were going to get a free ride. A ride they've now found is coming to an end.
You pay if you want to and you don't pay if you don't want to. If it's not close to presentable why are you constantly playing it?
It's clearly presentable if you're willing to play it even while it's free.
Which is fine, but you shouldn't state that people should have to justify paying them because you personally feel you shouldn't.Quote:

No, he was right. You're wrong. You have lag. You lag when taking stuff out of your retainers, when waiting for NPCs to bring up menus, and so on. I know this because it has nothing to do with your computer or your ISP or anything else in your control. He was also correct when he stated this is a major reason for the new servers in 2.0.
Imbecile.
anyone willing to pay full price for half of what you should get is {insult here}. game is not worth paying sub for.
game has been free because it has been broke no other reason what so ever. just because you may have enjoyed the game for a year does not mean ***, maybe you should send SE a years worth of sub and evaluate how much that sub was worth before you use it as a reason why everyone should pay for what is still have finished

back to my life done taking a *** on these forums.
It would be pretty pathetic if I were the only one who felt this way. That tells me that there are far too many ppl out there that are either too blind, or too naive, to realize when someone is taking advantage of them. As for the reason to why I "play constantly," I do it so that I'll be able to make worthwhile contributions to the forums, when I see things happening that I believe are going to hinder the success of this game. And I play, so that when the game IS presentable, I'll have made a fairly significant amount of progress already; and then I'll be able to enjoy the game more, since I won't have to spend all my time working towards leveling, making gil, meeting ppl to help out w/ high-lvl/end game content, and so on.
simply put, you are only being taken advantage if you dont feel you are getting your worth. Whether one is getting their worth or not is pretty subjective. For some one who plays this game 10 hours a week or more, its probably honestly worth 12 dollars, given what else, or how much other entertainment you can get for 12 dollars.
1 movie ticket
2 meals at mcdonalds
1 meal at a cheap regular restaraunt
45-80 miles of gas.
a cheap dvd
a bargain basement game.
Its all on what you think its worth and what your getting. Essentially you are offended at the principle of paying for a game, when they are developing an upgrade later. But if you enjoy the game now it makes perfect sense.
Ever think some of these people are taking advantage of SE, by getting 5-30 hours of entertainment a week, for as much as they make in less than an hour? maybe as little as 15 minutes?
Its all perception, your needs are not met, thats fine, but dont expect everyone else to live their lives by you re expectations or rules. Thats a personal issue.
Now I quoted my previous thread on this point with this post because it is again, a classic example of a whinny little punk. You hate anybody for enjoying something that you don't enjoy. Thus you sit here in your failed, unintelligent attepmt to convince us we should dislike the game as well.
I mean seriously...read Crunkjuice's last 10 pos, all he is doing is attempting to convince us to be as disgruntled as he is........shamefull
Sounds like this thread is in its death throes.
Actually, hardware lag does also count. If you're dropping frames significantly it will also hinder the response times when you try to interact with NPCs for example because your PC/Laptop/whatever would be struggling to pull up the dialogue table due to low specs, but the server response time is also still slow.
There's network lag, which is true, but hardware lag is also considered because this is true for games like Battlefield as well, if your PC is chugging it will throw off how the game plays just as much as if someone is switching or lagging. So there's the presences of both when you're regarding lag and why some would say "get a better PC" because people still confuse hardware lag with network lag in some instances, and animation lag isn't always network related (just watch some videos on youtube), I've even noticed a difference between my laptop (which isn't suited for gaming) and my desktop (which is suited for 3D modeling and programming.)
So Zero isn't completely wrong.
no one is trying to convince you the game is not worth playing.. sounds more like most of you are trying to justify paying in this state of the game. you don't have to like our reasoning, that is just how some of us feel. we have a reason to complain if we are not enjoying our purchase. what is your purpose of repeat posting, i think you seriously need to reevaluate the debate here. your enjoyment of the game, and reason TO JUMP SHIP, is not being judged, its is ours. so go enjoy if you do.
FFXIV.core moderator = arguing every point that comes along. Great logic there, irongripz. About as much as every other nonsense post you make.
And Shipp; I think all Jen wanted to do was to show that Zero is not completely wrong, and that he has some basis in his view. No need to jump up like that, considering that she didn't target or insult you.
Hello Folks,
We thank you for all your valuable insight into this topic. We are going to close this thread as it seems to have been played out. We appreciate all the dedication you have shown through the last year.
Thank you once again.
