With the saltiness of the dark knight, cash shop, coils and endgame threads, we can make an entire ocean from it all.

That's why you use riot blade, obviously....
I also never got into the Fate zerg parties in 2.0. Agree with the bad tanks though XD Many times ended up having to tank 90% of the dungeon as MNK or SMN with Titan on low level roulette when Ive ran them with those jobs. Generally I join as PLD or WAR. Also I've succesfully tanked practically everything in game, have a turn 9 geared PLD.
More often than not I tank lvl 50 dungs using my 110 MNK accs instead of tank ones using sword oath with good healers, too many times out DPS the DPSers too :P
I'm okay with dark knight being a tank, as long as the job has the move set from final fantasy tactics, and only sacrifices hp to increase defense capabilities, sacrificing hp to deal damage, is not very tank-ey in a game where having that extra hp is useful in tough battles.
maybe they get rid of base classes? ;) would be cool :)
Well if you ask me its great that there will be finally a tank which is just so cool and maybe on the same side a bit more focused on damage
this is the first reason finally for me to play a tank.
Pretty much this. One of the benefits of being a tank is that if you slap on DPS gear, you can actually out DPS A LOT of the actual DPS jobs in this game. Mainly because majority of them are not as good at playing their job as you are. But still, tanks have that flexibility. That's why there's off-tanks and main-tanks.
Shame its not real competitive DPS.
The only reason you know you're winning is because they're bad. Woop de doo.
I'm curious and interested in the changes to Parry / Evasion Stats. Ideally they'll be more relevant / important, which then makes for more interesting gameplay overall (instead of the just the Weapon Damage / Main Core Stat (STR, VIT, etc.) being the only cared about stats).
doubt they will remove classes. Creating Stand Alone Jobs is most likely their plan so they can stop making new classes every new Job. While keeping the classes as the starting class/Jobs.
Also, ever play those RPGs where there are secret Jobs in the game where you have to find them to obtain those Jobs and they don't have any special requirement beyond finding the location of that Secret Job trainer? Ya, Dark knight most likely will work like that being that players can become Dark knight any time they want but the only catch is that they must find the Dark Knight Job Trainer some where in the open world.
However, that probably won't be issue since they'll most likely release the location of the Dark knight trainer once 3.0 arrives.
If they implement it well and balanced (and i don't have much doubt that SE will fail here, considering that classes are balanced really well atm) i might even consider switching from BLM to DRK. If it's more like PLD where you just 1-2-3 most of the time then probably not though...
Dark Knight being a tank is so weird...
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/D...l_Fantasy_X-2)
Oh, never mind.
It was, in fact, the only job that could tank Trema without mascot and catnip.
No base class probably means that it's just a prestige job. Maybe you'll have to do a tanky class to unlock it? Would be weird if you could be a Thaumaturge until 30 and then switch over to dark knight.
Sorry, I wasn't able to read the rest of the thread, but the way I understood from the whole "No base class involved" part of the info, I thought it was because it'll branch off of a current class, like off of Marauder or Gladiator until lv.30, just like how Scholar and Summoner branched from Arcanist. So a number of us would be able to have a lv.50 DRK if most of us already have lv.50 Paladin/Warrior.
It can be a play of words or literally what they state, but I it's only speculation.
Making a new class (See: selling point of the expansion) require leveling an entirely different class all the way to 50/55 would be a terrible business decision.
The problem with that logic is that people who dont want to tank but want the shiny benefits of levelling a tank (aka mounts for PLD and WAR) will level it and make others suffer with lousy tanking just to get to 50 and claim said reward.
SE needs to find a way to make tanks more enjoyable to play for everyone, not just the "oh new collectable from levelling a class I dont wanna play, so I'll level it anyway just to get the reward then shelve the class for good" group.
Oh! Good old times! I remember that fight, it was funny how you could strip him of all his gear and then laugh at him tryng to kill you with his bare hands. xD
(You had to steal most of his gear anyway if you wanted some of the best equipment in the game)
True that and I agree but it might also serve as an incentive for new players that might want to try the game and choose to play DK because it's the "cool kids" class or something like that, adding more tanks in the end. I think we will have to wait on more info about this class in order to see how things will work out for the expansion.
I honestly think its a good decision to make dark knight a tanking class. I really don't mind, I enjoy tanking with my paladin and will enjoy tanking also with my dark knight when it comes out. As far as DPS classes goes im happy with ninja that's coming out, and perhaps even gunner later on.
DRK? DRK! Why's he tanking, Yoshi?
Yoshi: Because we needed a tank.
But he didn't do anything wrong!
Yoshi: Because he's the hero Eorzea deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll wait and have him tank. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight.
When I first played dark knight in FFXI I thought I could tank also due to the previous final fantasy games and found out FFXI defense was weak as butter im glad Dark knight is tank here now I will go into beast mode.
