How valuable is the hardcore opinion?

The problem i have with the question "How valuable is the hardcore opinion?" Is that the statement its self is false.
There is no "hardcore opinion"

The community has several members that have labeled themselves as hardcore. Their opinions are not always the same and what they want from FFXIV touches on many different areas.

As for the commenter that stated every opinion is equally valid. Wrong.

Opinions are always based around information. Opinions are also based on how we has individuals critically examine that information. So no, opinions will never be equal in value. Ever.

Example time.

The NBA playoffs kicked off this weekend (great games BTW). Maybe at some point someone in your life will ask you "Who do you think will win it all!"

Person A. has watched the entire season and has done the same for the past 20 years. He/she reads all of the ESPN articles about players and knows all the numbers.

Person B. Doesn't like the sport very much but has enough exposure from watching TV to know top players and teams.

Person A. will have a much more valuable opinion on the above question then Person B.

Even if Person A. is wrong, he can still make a compelling argument as to why he/she felt the way he/she does. A much better opinion can be found then "The Heat will win because D. Wade is adorable."

The bottom line is that on these forums some members do a great job of finding information and use it to make informed decisions, some do not.

I assume this is directed to my post. I think this is simply semantics. Opinions themselves aren't based in facts, but in belief. It's my opinion FFXIV is a success, the fact is that it's not. The old Catholic Church held the belief the world was the center of the Solar System, the fact is that it's not. Opinions can change, facts remain the same. They are based on information, in the broad sense of the word, but opinions themselves only hold the value we place upon them. To attempt to equate them to others often leads to misunderstanding and is futile unless we both agree as to what is valuable. And let's be honest, no two people are going to have the exact same bias.

To clarify, when I said that all opinions are needed, I wasn't implying that some are worth listening to more than others. What I meant was that it could be the less informed (or equally as likely the more informed) opinion that triggers a great idea in someone else. As much as informing ourselves helps to validate our points, it also tends to limit our creativity as we apply our own bias to that information and begin to see it in only one way. Sometimes it takes an opinion based in naivety to break us from that bias, and look at something in a new light, which can lead to a different discovery.

In your NBA example (wish I was a fan of basketball to share your appreciation for the games,) Player A's opinion, though based on his research into game statistics, doesn't mean that's he'll be any more accurate than Player B in predicting who will win. And though Player B's reason for picking The Heat is unfounded, the opinion isn't invalid. Maybe Player A will take notice, and become a D. Wade fan simply because he/she didn't look past the numbers to see that adorability.

The real hardcore gamer play FFXIV naked with their lvl 1 stuff, and all of the rest are casuals or bots.

I've played the game since Beta. I lived through the great flame wars of '10. I've been watching XIV since pre-alpha and reading every bit of news I can find on it. I played XI from '04 until earlier this year. I consider my opinion no more or less valuable or valid than anyone who has played FFXIV. Mostly because the major issues are so glaringly obvious that even someone who's only played the game 3 or 4 hours can grasp what they are and that they need to change.

That being said though, I love how people call 'hardcore' players self-entitled and elitist, then go on to explain why they, who play only a few hours a week, are entitled to the same content/gear as the people who worked for months to get it. Now that's a major sense of self-entitlement right there. If you can't/won't/don't want to put the work in the get the gear/content unlocked then you don't deserve it. If you don't put the time in, then don't expect to reap the same rewards.

Like all things in life, games reward more to those who put more time/effort into them.

I think if the game felt less like a chore/effort to play, then nobody would complain about not being rewarded with gear - the reward would just be fun.

Nice 11 pages of spam and senseless arguing over "opinions". Which are not "Facts" and therefore cannot be argued.
