The Monk Temple

I see so many PUG early phase 4 and early access .. then i see a huge drop of them on my server suddenly. Just people not liking them and the play style? I mean its irritating with no AOE but other than that i enjoy monk. I wonder if they are going to be worth it in the very end.. hmm. What do you guys think? I was thinking about switching to Marauder cause my little group needs a tank but I just need some feed back about PUG/mnks if anyone has any

I'm going to be honest I tried this class during phase 3 and I hated the class because of how complex it is. I also notice there are not very many pug/mnk anywhere in the game like I can't remember the last time I saw one which means the class is very unpopular and will probably need some adjustments to pull players towards it. I think making it very positional heavy is pushing a lot of people away from it and on to other dps classes. I also think the class needs some form of AoE so that they can be useful in fates because right now its all about AoE and myself as ACN have enough trouble trying to keep up with the pace of how fast mobs die.

They have aoe, its not particularly strong but its there.
It wont be a friendly class to play, just about every obstacle a dps class can have it has.
High ramp up time, positional req, heavy punishment for low uptime, no ranged damage, weak aoe, possibly quite gear dependent (?) and a fairly complicated rotation.
Great players will do well with it, even good players will have a hard time being competitive with it though i'd guess.

The ability tooltip for fists of skills are right, the buff tooltip is outdated.
You'll be in fire most of the time, wind maybe for getting out of aoe and getting back on target.

I'm only level 24 on PUG, but I am loving the complexity of the class. The positional requirements make it more interesting to me. I'm sure I am not great at the class yet, but I notice a huge difference in dungeons when I perform well or miss my combos. I can see where someone who is great at this class will really stand out. Certainly it makes me want to keep at it and improve.

I would much rather the Monk be an underplayed class instead of being FotM like Arcanist, with everyone running around with the little ifrit pokemon.

Hi, I've been doing some reading and I'm still confused about how to reach the Monk job. I read that it takes a lvl 30 pug and lvl 15 lancer, However in game Hammon suggests you try out the Gladiator or the Thaumaturge or stay as the Pug. Then to make things even more confusing a few ppl have told me it doesn't matter what job you take and that by lvl 25 you can get Monk.

I'm in Ul'dah and the only trainers I have found are for the Glad and Thau and Pug. I'm currently lvl 16.

Any up to date info on this would be great thanks!

You need to have a level 30 pug and 15 lancer to unlock monk. The quest NPC is in the goldsmith guild and should talk to you once you hit 30 on pug.

The AoE you get at 30 (rock breaker) is pretty decent. Granted can only use it every 3 gcd's but it is pretty much like the damage of ST attacks not named snap punch that is an aoe.

I love the class. I am only level 36 but I don't feel it's that bad yet in terms of complexity but we will see at 50.

As others have said, class requires good positioning and rotation management compared to other DPS classes. Our utility seems on the weaker side compared to classes like THM/BLM and BRD - at least in the 30s. This may change later on with the addition of 2 stuns, an INT debuff, and matra - though it still seems rather weak.

In terms of raw DPS, apparently ARC/BRD had the highest numbers in phase 3. This was followed by DRG/MNK about even, and BLM last in terms of single target DPS. Things may have changed since then, and only time will tell. As for DRG versus MNK, DRG def has higher burst. It's still too early in terms of ARN/SMN, and I've only ever come across one decent one(his DPS was comparable to mine) that wasn't "lost in the sauce" with topaz out causing tank/healer hardship during the dungeon run.
