I can make a similar argument for any farming-type like simulator game, let's say Stardew Valley. They also give you a way to automate crops and pasture, yet you have to work for it. The difference is the reward and personal satisfaction you get from playing the game due to its fair share of customization. Yes, they'll be adding stuff in the future, like garden beds and hut customization, but that's every 2 major patches (if I recall correctly). Can't promote the "freedom" like they did in PLL when its initial release shows its limits already.
My issue with current state Island Sanctuary is the idea you can "forget" about it while it does its thing, and this is where the automation of mammets comes from, it works great for the pasture and crops, however I disagree with how the workshop works, mainly because if you wish to keep getting proper amount of cowries, you have to optimize the entire workshop to maximize gains, and that means checking supply and demand every day. Not so much about "forgetting" and doing your own thing now, is it?
The sanctuary has its potential, but only time will tell with the future changes how it's gonna be.
If your goal is to maximize gains in the workshop, as opposed to just earning enough cowries to afford the "for-sale" items, I would agree.
However, if the goal is to pull in enough cowries to keep the critters and plants tended, as well as to buy those items eventually, the automation works fine -- you only need to collect materials from your exploration teams once a week. You only need to set up the production line once every two weeks. You can go on vacation for a week and still come back to find your critters are not dead, your plants have not withered away, and the resources needed to rake in the cowries to keep it going without you being there are now available.
Yeahhhh I mean I went in with low to no expectations, and can honestly say I had more fun with WoW's mists of Pandaria farm than this one. I don't like the factories or how close they are to the "house" and I also don't like the 50 mammets swarming everywhere and staring at me if I use any of the furniture in said "house"
Feels more industrial than homey. Seeing my minions loose is neat and my new hairstyle is nice at least.
Oh good.
