True, I would agree with that. My in-game experience and my forum experience is like night and day.

Nah just people showing their true colors. As many stated already, we're toxic in a different way and you just explained how the a lot of people in the community acts.
We lack context so maybe it was justified or OP just likes picking a fight, only they know.
Just have a hot take opinion and sparks fly sometimes. Liking Lyse or stormblood for one. Kidding aside this game is no better than any other. We have good cats bad cats and crazy cats. Just look on this forum or Reddit. The thing is people are people and they will do people things. Some good some bad and some inbetween. I just try to relax and poke noses.
I've ended up in a duty twice with a notoriously obtuse poster that fails to understand the basics of math or seasons and they were nice, helpful and 'pogging off' performance wise, so to speak
I just think some people give the forum too much weight, like many of the people who criticize SE or aspects of the game, or the players and/or community, are usually completely "normal" in game, tbh
like, I probably come across as some kind of elitist hardcore raider who expects only the best of players and anything below 100% is seen as slacking, meanwhile I'm a casual af player that wiped a party like 3-4 times on dohn mheg because I pulled too much and wasn't watching my CDs properly (though to my defense the healer was using benefic and not 2 all throughout the first wipe, the rest were all on me)
The wave of new players, the hype, the expectations, all of these make people think that this game is the oasis in the desert with sunshine and rainbows community.
They're dead wrong. Human are still human, there will be good and bad people like everywhere else.
Tone down your expectation a bit and you will see everything as it should be.
People just fall too easily for forums personas/trolling. A huge part of this forum is so contrarian that it just motivates those people to post huge baits to get a rise out of them. They can't resist but go full "Ackshually...!" when they read something they disagree with.
Everyone being friendly and open is a convenient lie. Truth is people only care if you're popular or rich; otherwise you're considered one of the dregs of society.
The problem with this game and its respective community is that they're like a cult. They have to prove they belong by repeating positive mantras; constantly
reaffirming that the game has little to no flaws; apologize everytime before practising open critique towards any aspect. Otherwise you are shunned and excluded.
What am I? Neither. I have a tendency to sympathize with children and vulnerable people but honestly I'm a lone wolf. If you need help, expect to see me out of nowhere. If I have no purpose for being there; I won't be.
@OP
This is very true. Not only this, but I found a big cesspool of toxic player community in pvp / frontlines.
If you don't strictly follow the self-appointed leader / call-outs, you will be kicked from the frontline.
Forbid if you wanted to venture off to capture a point solo, or do 1 vs 1 combat within the instance. Nope. You get kicked because you aren't with the group.
I really with they would remove the kick feature save for Auto Kick due to AFK.
Kicking players from PVP modes is way too abused right now
