I wouldn't go that far into thinking he is forcing others to play to his liking. It's simply just an unpopular thought. It's sent out to bring him ridicule which is something he actively seeks out. You can see the reoccurring theme with this poster. Pain is exquisite.

as hardcore as demon/dark souls is getting back usually isnt that bad since its just performing repetitive actions over again

Anyways, my point still stands. When you have a death penalty that people don't like. They will try harder not to die and there for get better at the game.
