For very good reasons: None of these characters have the Echo. The WoL being able to take down Primals, whether alone or in a small group, is the reason for them being known as a hero and special. While you were becoming a well known adventurer amongst the newbie ones at the start of ARR it was your fight with Ifrit that catapulted you to stardom, and from there you were given more oppurtunities to fight stronger opponents because you proved yourself again and again. These other NPCs have proven themselves against various other monsters and other people, BUT none of them have the Echo and thus are very much in danger of becoming tempered.

Also if you did 4.1 some of our non-Echo NPC allies did in fact help us fight Lakshmi. And you know what happens if you let one of them get hit by her orbs? Immediatelly becomes a Dreamer, do not pass Go do not collect your retirement check. Also if the story actually continued from there we lost atleast one of our better allies, or possibly all of them if it snowballs from there. The story gives good reason for why many NPCs who are as powerful or near enough to our level still can't do everything we can.

Also something something "we did all the hard work, why does so and so character get all the credit?"

This is one of the most half arsed reason I have ever seen in a game. I have played many FF games from 6 (excluding 11) and this is the only FF where all the npcs are complete useless.

The NPCs are the ones who run the show, you're just left with beating people up to a pulp. We're not the ones who facilitated the acceptance of the Doman refugees, not the ones who rebuilt Ishgard, not the ones who'll rebuild Doma or Ala Mhigo. Our military prowess did very little vs. the political machinations of Teledji Adeledji and his ilk so who's useless now? Guess we are, too.

Speaking strictly in combat, you do slightly have a point, which is why, I suspect, they're slowly adding more instances where NPCs help you. 4.1 couldn't have been won without Arenvald and Fordola.

It's interesting how the game does that. It acknowledges that you, the WoL might not necessarily agree with everything you're forced to do to progress the MSQ, and there are definitely times when I don't.

However, there are occasions where the welfare of the WoL is compromised and the compassion the NPCs show that it is earned by being completely selfless and accepting that ultimately our duty is to do what we feel is right at the time makes it worth it.

1.0 original MSQ: You start as one of many adventurer, who join the adventurer guild. After collapsing because of the Echo running wild (all the lv1-15 story quests with the time jumps) you get an invention from Minfilias first organisation, the Path of the Twelve. Where you are one of many echo users, who gathered together to research that gift. You have to share your work with a talkative partner.

1.x seven umbral story: You are one of many adventurers who joined one of the 3 fresh formed Grand Companies. You start as a recruit and fullfill first easy missions like delivering letters to rank up. The story is around the Garleans, the big officers and Cid, while you are just the messenger boy. Only after you climbed high enough your rank you start to get the attention of the big officers, who give you the important mission to raid the Castrum Novum and to destroy Nael's transmitters to save the world (this mission also decide if some NPCs in ARR remember you or not).

I would like it if we get a story line with grand company missions again. Where we are not the WoL or a member of the Scions, but a high rank officer.

For me, it's a Final Fantasy and being a FF means the story must be good and it's good and fun but I still found as some people that the "WoL" is just too far away from the title he bears. In ARR, Hydealyn wants us to save the world from the darkness, what a noble quest for the chosen one. But since the Ultima Arma, we lost that theme and just tossed everywhere to solve problems. Good, we are humans and friends after all. But the first role of the WoL is to save the world, why not put more interesting parts of why you were chosen by Hydealyn. I mean, we don't need to be all the time "superpowerful" but we need to see sometime why we are the hero.

I have discussed this topic seriously with my friends today and we have come to the conclusion that instead of creating the warrior of light concept SE should have created the 'Army of Light'. Because this is an mmorpg and giving credit to a single person all the time does not make sense... especially when there are thousands of players around us. 'Army of Light' means we are part of a huge military force and each and every one has the power of the echo to defeat primals and powerful villians. And the npcs should not give credit to just one player but instead give credit to the whole military force. We are one of many. This is not a single player game where only one person gets credit... this is an mmorpg played by thousands of players around the world.

That means that whenever we defeat a powerful primal than in the cutscenes the npcs should give thanks and credit to all the 8 players that participated. Whenever we clear a 24 men raid than the npcs should give credit to all the 24 men army.

Think about this Yoshida and SE... you are making an mmorpg so please stop treating it like a single player game.

On Guild Wars 2 they went for a while with that route and people was tired sick on Trahearne hogging all the glory while the character is basically the hyper competent sidekick getting just the crumbs

I love being the chosen. In most mmorpgs the credits, praise etc. always goes to the commander, the prince etc aka an Alphinaud type of character. In FFXIV, we are the hero and our allies and enemies know this, they know who we are and I love this about FFXIV.

Thing is that if we take the chosen one issue aside, the game does a good job giving praise when its due. To put an example a commander goes to defend a vilage and the pc does the ground job, on some games the praise goes to the commander while the pc gets gets a pat on the back with a "good job" at best, on others the pc hogs all the glory, while on FFXIV case BOTH can get praised.

On Guild Wars 2 Trahearne had sometimes ridiculous strategies that the pc manages to pull off by basically doing the impossible yet Trahearne gets most of the glory depite their strategy being a total mess and depending on the pc to make miracles along the way.

Other games do the opposite: no matter how good the secondary characters perform, the pc hogs all the glory cos hes the main character and the world revolves around him/her actions and the other characters exist to elevate him/her to new levels of fame
