Use a SSS "calculator", the HP is of the dummies is known so it's a fairly simple process to divide the damage you did (97% of the hp of the A7S dummy) over 3 minutes - giving you DPS of roughly 1644~ you can get more accurate by going to 1-2 decimal places. There are models a few people have made to try and reason out how much DPS you should be able to do. My model, for instance, is saying you should be around 1670-1710 or so. If you're pulling 1644, that's pretty much right around where you wanna be, maybe just a bit low.

Well, I did give lock on a try, but it went terribly awfully stupidly bad, to the point of wanting to go die in a corner from shame. :( Just having the change of view caused me to add large pauses inbetween GCDs, and I couldn't get a feel of movement, so I was messing up positionals.

With a bit of practice and after a while you don't even notice the camera change :) it really does become second nature clicking off as aoes appear and that and on to new mobs etc. Keep at it!

I see, I don't have mercy stroke yet, and some people were telling me it'd help a lot. They also said it's best to save buffs for the dummy as well. Would this help in my attempts? I've tried saving them but I can't notice a big difference. Maybe I'm just not doing it right.

This is pretty accurate. It's super janky at first, but becomes pretty easy once you get the hang of it. That said: learning when to turn my lock-on off and on is the bit of progression/learning that takes me the longest, personally. You rarely need to use it to avoid AoEs, too, actually. Most of the time, you can just spin around the boss to avoid them. If you do a melee-friendly A7S weight strategy, for instance, you never need to drop Lock-On to dodge.

You'll have to drop it for the corner set, though;;

Mercy Stroke is not a major boon to your damage. You should have it, but it's not gonna make or break you.

And, holding buffs and such will help maximize a three-minute parse, but when looking to actually maximize your dps and such, you want to practice NOT holding things. At your gear level, you should be able to down the A7S dummy (in a halfway lucky parse) without using any minor optimizations. You should theoretically be able to also kill the A8S dummy (I cleared it for the first time wearing this.) if you optimize for 3 minutes, but I wouldn't worry much about that.

Yeah I mean for the mahoosive ones to click off for ^.^

I wish we did a melee friendly strat..I suggested trying it but the feeling every week after clearing is just "clear asap" no trying new stuff :P

My group doesn't do melee-friendly strat for the first set of aoes. I asked if we could, but they said safety strats only, so oh well. I miss an auto-attack in my opener, but nothing else, so I don't really mind much.

So I've been practicing lock on with R3 and that does make it a bit easier, so thanks guys for the tip. We're still wiping to mechanics on Ratfinx, but when everyone does manage to get their preferred opener in without slip ups, we are skipping prey. We've at least made it to pig adds now (though LB got goofed and we wiped there), but fingers crossed for a clear next week.

I do have another problem though.. I am horribly embarrassed by my performance on Hummelfaust. It feels like everyone else is improving each time they go in, but I'm failing to "get it." If this works, data here: http://www.fflogs.com/rankings/chara.../10/#boss=5006

The 1633 parse was because I screwed up and accidentally went into normal rotation for the Fausts instead of holding Battle Litany for Hummelfaust. Using lock-on did give me a lot of trouble at first, but I feel like by last night, it wasn't impeding me as much.. so I'm still just awful at figuring out how best to manage rotation for there. I did try comparing parses to a few, but it seems I'm kind of terrible at figuring things out like that as well. Here's our clear from last night (and 3 close wipes in the same night.. We generally see the cast bar for the final Panzercheck each clear, and I'm worried that I'm the one at fault here. So, if anyone has time to take a look and point out what I'm doing wrong, I'd appreciate it.

Okay, so. The way I handle Hummel is vastly different than most other Dragoons I know of.

1. Why are you using Blood of the Dragon before Impulse Drive?
2. Your opener is weird as fuck. If you're gonna B4B the two Fausts, go for it, but it should look more like uh...
HT>[IR>B4B]>ID>[PS]>Dis>[BotD>LegS]>CT>[Jump]>4th>[DFD]>ID>[SSD]>Dis>[gsk]>CT>[LifeS]>4th
...ish. You can also ID the first Faust before Disembowel on the second for extra damage. Also tab-target back for the SSD to get the Disembowel buff and delay the gsk until after Disembowel applies to get double Dis buff.

Do not use SSD to close the gap to Hummel. Elusive Jump for that.
1. You can get to him before he's targetable and therefore get an immediate attack in, rather than waiting until he's targetable and then your first GCD gets delayed by SSD's animation lock.
2. Elusive is basically worthless elsewhere so why not use it?

You ended the Fausts with Full Thrust, which is super shitty, RIP dps. You also used a Phlebotomize on one of the Fausts, which is just bad practice in general. Try not to do that. It's a massive loss, especially when it precludes a gcd such as a 4th hit as the last. Lets you get +1 gsk.

Battle Litany, used when Hummel drops, is completely pointless if you're not stacking it with any buffs of your own. You're doing B4B > BL > B4B without stacking any of it. Either use it on pull for the Fausts or use it with your second B4B, not when Hummel drops. Your party should either be dropping shit on the double and then killing Hummel, or they'll be holding for Hummel. Either way, you should be doing the same thing.

If you're struggling to kill Hummel, it's because you guys aren't holding your big buffs to use on Hummel and your gear isn't good enough to cheese the fuck out of the fight, yet, so you gotta respect it more.

If you're looking to boost your personal DPS, you already seem to have figured that out with the 1633 run. I personally hold my full opener for the Hummel, with DFD+SSD+PS+Jump on the Fausts, with IR as the only buff I use there (popping it pre-pull as I run up, so it's absolutely back for Hummel). I usually do 1750+ on it, with one B4B in the fight.

...... You save Dragonfire Dive for Hummel..... for some reason?
You double-weave gsk+Jump - never do that.

Outside of that - your crit rate is super low. What are your stats? Are you over 1k Crit rate? If not, that's something to look into.
