Regardless if it IS actually implemented as a new race i am also on the Miqo'te for life train.
I think he wants blue mages to only be certain races and for pvp to be casters vs healers or something. While also writing those last two like in like a slam poetry style? /shrugs
Not the only one, I want a tall and short variation, and Id rather have one clan be teh tall amazon type that the majority wants, but the other clan be short (maybe a little taller than lalas, but definiteily shorter than all other races).
What I hope we DONT see is AuRa again. Both clans being identical short of a palette swap on the scales.
Tempting as it is, I'm too attached to my current char to change race like that. Gotta hold down the femroe fort.
You say that like ARR's races all had unique-model clans, but then they went the cheap route for adding Au Ra later.
It would certainly be nice for them to put the effort into a Hyur-style "two races for the price of one" implementation, but there's no real precedent for it.
Youre right. What we dont need is more homogeneous palette swaps. More Hyur differentiation. Heck, I wonder if people would even be down for that. As in size and builds of one of the clans gets reworked for all the races (save hyur). If it adds variety to the look and feel of the game, Id be down for that.
I'm not familiar with previous lore, but from how this game works, you definitely wouldn't get male and female Viera as the two clans according to the character creator screen with (I assume you're picturing) two models for female Viera in Clan A and two models for males in Clan B.
Think of the programmers setting up a new race like they're filling out a template. The details are different for each race, but everything ends up in the same place in the programming.
There are four boxes for "character appearance".
1. Clan A male
2. Clan A female
3. Clan B male
4. Clan B female
And then everything else in the game - being referred to as 'he' or 'she'; which gender-locked gear you're allowed to equip - will look back to the choice that the player made, and treat them as male if they picked options 1 or 3.
You could put an intended-to-be female character in box 1 and an intended-to-be-male character in box 4, but the game won't understand that.
All that aside, the actual lore for the characters is disconnected from the character creator settings. Male and female Clan A Viera can still live in completely separate tribes and it can even say so in the 'clan lore' blurb on the character selection screen.
I would imagine prettymuch everyone who is happy with their Clan B character's appearance would not be down for that.
It's one thing to have the differences from the start, and entirely another to permanently replace existing options (that a lot of people are using) with something else.
I have a Duskwight alt and it would be absolutely horrible to be told "sorry, we're overhauling Duskwights completely and he won't look like that any more".
Maybe there's "not much difference" between Elezen clans but there's enough that they're not simply interchangeable. I'd be forced to either accept the changes or fantasia to Wildwood to keep his overall appearance, and it would be a poor substitute. He would lose his Duskwight tattoo, and scar placements are different even for 'matching' models of the different clans. And of course the skintone palettes are vastly different - my own character would be less affected, being in the 'overlap' between the two palettes, but anyone who went with the greyer shades would be unable to replicate it.
Plus his race is part of his identity - my concept of how he acts as an individual character rather than the generic-scripted Warrior of Light.
There would be similar issues with all the races. Players who chose Dunesfolk or Moonkeepers because they liked how their eyes look. Hellsguard for the skin tones or nose markings. Xaela for the scale colour and dark eyes on the male characters.
It all could have been done differently from the start, but since it wasn't, there's much more to be lost than gained from changing it now.
taking into account viera/feol as the 2 subraces, i would put viera around elezen height/build (maybe slightly lankier) and the feol to be closer to midlander height with a slightly lanky frame, the ears would more than make them seem much taller though, plus theres no denying fran will likely be the only one held entirely to the digitigrade ff12 viera because they can just port her model over from 12 (they might have heels as their racial outfit, but unless theyve implemented actual high heels look at the werewolf set for how thosell end up looking), with the males/females having similar size as opposed to the dimorphism auri have
as for the current races, i think adding a couple extra options or shades for them would be nice, but to overhaul the existing ones outside of slight across the board hd retouches would mess with established players looks and you run far more risk of annoying your current base than bringing in new people to a race
Yeah, I imagine the same as well. While I do wish every non-Hyur race's second clan was actually about as different as Midlanders and Highlanders are, I know there'll be some people unhappy about their second clan being drastically changed. Heck, I'd be pretty disappointed if Hellsguard Roegadyn were given a huge change to make them visually different from the Sea Wolves.
If we were to get a third clan for all the existing (non-Hyur) races, though... Galka please? Give the Roegadyn their tails!
Not a chance. I'll stick with my Au Ra and hunt the new bunnies for food. I am pleased that my Au Ra will be finally able to eat something other than lalafells.
Of course I'll change! I've been sending insuggesrions for viera for YEARS like, almost every single day!
Of course I'll change! I've been sending in suggestions for viera for YEARS like, almost every single day!
Lalafells arise let's get revenge on all i shall call this the great lala war (hehehehe gotta have some fun all so i am kinda mixed with the new race i think small and tall will work)
Will stick to ROE and just use bunny ear glamor.Roe viera confirmed.
If they bring out an option that will make everyone happy with Big Buns and Smol Buns, I will most def make an alt.
I doubt they will give big and smol buns, but one can hope. ^_^
Gradually, they've been adding the things I wanted (classes, etc) into the game since I've been playing off and on when budget permits (really, really hard times right now) and Viera was one of my #1 desires, may have posted in this thread, not sure. Since at the time I didn't know/rumored they wouldn't add that, I really really wanted a huge female beast race, not exclusive of course just wanted to play a giant beast woman like a bird or a dragon. When I heard about Au Ra, I was excited, especially since the men were so tall, but of course when I saw the girls my hopes were shattered beyond belief. What an incredible waste... sure they're cute, and popular, as any pretty thing will be, but there's nothing like what I want in any MMO.
What drives my blood to boil, however, is recently seeing the proposed Au Ra concept artwork that released way back when that I somehow missed. The few sketches of women were exactly what I was looking for! I'm so angry we didn't get that! I don't even think this is my first post about it I'm so irked >_< I've tried Roe girls since game released way back on console but it's just not the same (I still play one, though; currently working toward the Choco Suit when life permits. Also the mask ~_~) Anyway, I totally understand why people like what they like and want the things just the way THEY want them. I get it.
I hope it's a split faction thing as well. You get the tall, fierce warriors for the FF12 fans, and the concept-view short race for the others. I personally want the Ivalice Viera, which were still tall and lithe without being "sexy" in the traditional, curvy-sultry sense. If the heels were such a problem from a development standpoint, just make them normal feet! Although the preview showed what appears to be a Fran-like character from behind wearing similar leg straps and heels... couldn't they just do that? Hell in WoW the Draenei had hooves and each foot item only appeared like a band/ring around the ankle, problem solved.
I can't believe more people aren't asking for Moogles to be like the ones in 12/Ivalice, in fact that might be a pretty cool race option! Remember? They were thin and lanky, about as big as the tallest Lalas now but with long ears too, and different fur colors/styles. I thought they were neat, anyway.
Well, after that 4.5 trailer released the 21st I think we can safely say that the tall ffxii-style Viera variant will be available. Still no hint whether the alt style will be Feol or something else. Also no indication yet of the male design.
i think if there is going to be sub race it will probably be tactics style with spikes fur on there ear's and a pointed nose and one for smoother ears, nd more human
also i wonder if they are going to give a fantasia with the pre-order like they did for heavenward, when they announced au ra?
Well if we don't get a different Viera clan, make the males the small ones. Reverse Au Ra.
I might change one of my Hyurs.
Yeah, only Hyurs are different between clans. I imagine SE won't make new races have 'Midlander/Highlander' clans because they know people will demand a third clan for existing races to be visually different or something. Can easily see there being posts demanding the third Au Ra clan to be the concept art.
On the other hand, if they know they're drawing close to the end of how many races they can add*, they might want to squeeze in two new character types rather than one? Especially since it's a race with two pre-established (and concept-arted) clan designs.
* My guess is that unless they restructure the character creator and data, and unless they planned ahead for having a large number of races, the actual limit of how many races they can have is eight - the largest number conveyed by the same amount of data needed for the original choice out of five - and if the rumour of getting two new races is true, that will be full!
Alternately, I wonder if the "two new races" could be a slight error because they're making two new types of character models, but they're going to be put in as clans of a single race?
I also don't think we will be getting a third sub-race ever, or at least (again) unless they restructure the character data - the current choice of clan A or B is a single 0/1 in the data, but three choices requires two digits and would change the length of the code.
Assuming you're referring to the Feol Viera, I still doubt they'd do that (if the children Viera; no thank you). Aside from faces appearing more 'hume-like' than Viera (since their father race is pretty much Hume with wings), they're not really all that different from pure-blooded Viera. Sure, their ears are also shorter, but I'm sure there'll be an ear length slider in the character creator for them.
We'll see. There's still two more Fan Fests to look forward to (I still wish new races in FFXIV would be something that has already existed and then becomes playable and not something that doesn't exist until the end of a patch cycle and then becomes playable).
Anyone spotted male Viera yet?
At work, cant play yet. :(
I personally wouldn't like it if male vieras were always shorter than females. I'd find it fine if they were the same average size, and thus some might be shorter or taller depending on each character's height bar.
Just my two cents in case SE reads, for the sake of showing that there are different opinions on the matter.
