Well. European and American Players mostly dont like the new PvP System BUT: The Japanese Players like it. If Japan says its good, it stays.

"Oh dear." - unknown guy at the end of the "Under the Moonlight" trailer.
I mean the core concept of 4.0 in my opinion is:
- no more pvp gear / fix stats
- full-on pvp equivalents of skills allowing for easier coding
Which is perfectly fine, that bit is good.
The fact it only has like what, 8-9 skills and a depth as shallow as Lolorito's tiny shoes is what is numbing. If you have generally this little for each job it is difficult to balance it since a tiny tip in the wrong direction can have massive impact.
Every class could easily use a rework of their kits, 3-4 more skills and making "problem skills" (Cover what I mostly heard) on a high cooldown, using other skills as substitutes (intervention as short-CD for cover) and generally spicing up each job a bit.
Getting only potency adjustments, HP adjustments, trait adjustments etc. without changing anything in the core design of abilities is a problem.
Street Fighter II. A game with enough depth and balance for a higher skilled player to defeat a lower skilled player 100% of the time, regardless of what character was used. The game was also easy to learn and understand by the average player. One of the best selling PvP games of all time.
Feast. A game with little depth and lack of balance between the classes. The ability of a higher skilled player to defeat a lower skilled player depends on the carry potential of the classes used including what skills/abilities are available (8-9 buttons... lol hahahaha), i.e. a higher skilled DPS most likely will NOT defeat a lower skilled healer solo. This game is NOT easy to learn and understand, and it requires looking at non-official material to inform players of how to properly play the game. Therefore, atm only veterans know how to properly play PvP.
Feast (Con't). High healing bursts and the medal system (which punishes the better performing team) are largely unfamiliar to the NA/EU player base. The only game that should have the "punish-for-winning" mechanic should be Mario Kart! Last place driver in Mario Kart gets the Blue Turtle Shell, while the 1st place driver gets a banana peel! It's fun because it's funny! XD But in Feast, you get too many medals, your teammates get pissed... then you die because of it... and now you get pissed... because it all happened in ranked solo queue. LOL
Therefore, I suggest to add balance and depth (16+ buttons maybe?). Then... design a Blue Turtle Shell for the losing team, and make sure it's funny. XD
Feast needs a massive rework. I feel like they should be reworking how rewards and participation works. Currently if you aren't doing PVP constantly within the two weeks or so you have almost 0 chance of actually making the top 100. After about two weeks the Feast almost completely dies except for maybe a hour or so at night but other than that your looking at nearly 30+ min for matches making it damn near impossible to catch up and most just don't bother and that is where Feast suffers.
I feel like they need to take a page from the Garo event and I feel like they should have requirements like win so many matches of whatever to earn the new Feast mounts because let's be real that's what everyone wants and let the hardcore folks who wanna fight for the top 10 or so a trophy or something unique for their houses or a rare piece of gear. When the Garo event happened it brought PVP back from the dead and for a few months PVP was easy to get into and the wait times were really good and I think that if you give people an incentive that's actually obtainable I feel like PVP would pick back up and you could have people interested in each Feast season with increased participation imo.
If SE released an event similar to Garo, but it was a Chrono Trigger event that rewards glowing weapons based on those you can find in the original game (ex: Chrono's Rainbow Sword for SAM, Lucca's gun for MCH, Marle's crossbow for BRD, Robo's fist for MNK, etc... but requires 1000 kills in Feast EACH to obtain) and a rare mount (Wings of Time via 300 wins in Feast), would you queue Feast? XD It's really a hefty price to pay for exclusive rewards, but I mean... I think people would queue for these for quite some time.
Wait... I'm not suggesting this. T.T Or maybe I am. XD
I already like the feast, with that I would queue Nonstop, haha
I used to be in a thriving PvP linkshell, in which there would be at least 10 people online every day. Now I have been the only one in it for months, since they changed pvp. Pretty depressing.
You're right, I started PvP in Season 3. So my experience in 3.x PvP is probably half the time you've experienced it. XD
So most likely there are things I haven't experienced that you have... which in turn makes you miss the old PvP more than I do.
As such, from my experience and perspective (from Season 3 onward), I miss chat... and I also miss the depth that 3.x had (which you can get pretty creative with, especially with bursts) versus 4.x's simplified system. The only thing from 3.x that I don't miss was stun-to-BTE... except when I used MCH. LOL
Other than that, I do enjoy current 4.x (not Season 7), although I feel that the devs should return more depth, chat (w/ the option to mute), and Sprint as a standard ability instead of relegating it to being an additional. That's where I miss 3.x... at least from what I know. haha
EDIT: Actually, I started late in Season 2. lol O.o
Reviving this thread bc I'm feelin this pretty hard today.
Even sadder to me that their incentive to "fix" PvP always seemed to be from a place to revitalize it, but now it's deader than ever. Their attempt wasn't even a success and now waiting forever to get a pop isn't even worth the fun gameplay (of 3.0) anymore.
MAKE NINJA AND WARRIOR GREAT AGAIN.
Give us the Killing machine warrior and the spy/invisible/assassin/jump from cliff/ fast runner/ ninja back
More generally give us frontline 3.0 back.
Feast is one thing but frontline is a tactical war, not a no brain game
Been trying to get into Feast again on and off for a while. Longest I waited in queue before giving up is almost 3 hours, on a weekend. Seems there's no way to play it atm, I guess because I didn't gain ranks early enough in the season and nobody is left queuing at the bottom rank, and the other mode for training matches just isn't used by anybody. Yeah I tried changing role to healer too. Guess I have to stick to Frontlines and pve stuff.
That does sound funny. Since nin job was added I always imagined that scenario of a whole clan of nins suddenly emerging from a puff of smoke and surrounding a guy who thought they were alone; never saw it happen though as I don't do premades. Would be awesome if the person who got gang-stealthed was streaming it.
It wasn't that awesome. Alert was limited to two jobs, bard and mch, and it was a pvp ability you had to sink points into. Even then, it still had a long cooldown and a tiny range. The only way to counter NIN stealth was to never leave the home point alone. It was pretty busted, because all the maps were open with no choke points a nin had to go through to give you the chance to tag them with alert or aoe. Add in a limit break that could effectively one shot most jobs, along with silence or stun, and it was pretty cheap.

Forever R.I.P fun pvp.
Why not add the old PVP back as an option? Like, only for frontlines?
Cmonn SE!
Lace made these maps to highlight the choke points for you. Saying there's none is incorrect.

Lace knows better than this. You know where ninja used their stealth? Next to the home points, to ambush people. Do you see any choke points there? No. Did Ninja need to use stealth in the map anywhere else? No, because seal rock forced people by the active nodes and you generally attacked en masse anyways. Stealth was used mostly to sneak kills as people returned to the battle, not to go to nodes where alert would have worked. By the time you actually walked up to a node, the battle was joined anyways. They even could use shakuichi to stay well out of alert range and cover a lot of ground to ambush people. But in the cases it was used, it was really hard to counter it because there was no dedicated job to nail ninjas with. No job worked well at disrupting stealth the way it was played.
FL heros unite
I never tried PvP since the changes, I didn't like the look of them at all.
Today I went to take a stab at the PvP dummy since I wanted at least 1k Wolf Marks and I was surprised by how..... unpleasantly bad Bard played compared to my already-low expectations. I am feeling very, very nostalgic right now and its getting me down because the old PvP could be a really fun time sink and I would love that right now in FF when regular dungeon and raid content just isn't holding my attentions any more.
SE get a Savage pvp mode going, all lvl 70 job cap abitilies. That's what made pvp popular and unique; it's not difficult, ALL the PLAYERBASE learns lvl 70 cap rotations, it's not simplified to 9 buttons.

Pvp was only fine in 2.x and in 3.x many jobs were broken and thats why people liked it, imagine if it was the same before it wont be balanced at all, SE had to add skills but changed the whole pvp system for a result... </3
I just want to PvP =(* Everything is 30m+ queues.
...oh unless it's Saturday 9pm, because that's apparently the time to queue for Rival Wings....
bring back HW pvp pls. or at least add more skills for 5.X PLEASE
I feel like ast is worthless in feast now. I used to go diurnal ast, but now there's no point in going ast in the feast when WHM does everything better. With how restrictive the cards are now, WHM has better regen, better damage reduction, better mana management, an actual aoe heal.... It's really disappointing.
