Children don't pay the bills. You're analogy is broken.
Correct, consumers do choose how well this creation does, not how it's created. The forums are for feedback, nothing more. The thing is giving our feedback and our opinion is all we can do for SE, it's still up to them weather or not they choose to listen. This is their project, their creation and they are the only people who can change it. Just because we are being allowed to give feedback does not mean it will be put into the game. That's where the issues arise because for some odd reason consumers feel the need to say things like "This game is doomed if they don't listen to us." just because their idea was overlooked or perhaps a bad idea to begin with. The developers are qualified to make those decisions and we as consumers, especially consumers who have no knowledge of the creative process and work that goes into every little change, really need to not be rude and abusive.
SE is listening, they don't have to act on every little thing though.
In any case I was mostly pointing out that the community does not have to be abusive to get their suggestions and feedback heard. Nor does anyone have to agree with them. Just as you and a few other posters in this thread disagree with me. Funny how I am not being abusive about it.
My statement is not false. They said they want our feedback and suggestions, they never said they would put them all into the game and I am certain they did not want the abuse that tends to come with every single suggestion on this forum. I am sure the developers and everyone at SE can handle people not being happy with every change they decide to make. That does not mean we should make it a crappy experience for them every time they read the forum. You couldn't pay me enough money in the world to re-create a product for people who say some of the rudest things I have seen in a long time. I never meant to say we as consumers have no right to say what we feel about the product, or the changes being made. I really meant is that not everyone is going to get 100% of what they want and for some reason we are under that delusion. It's not just one side insulting the other side, both sides have thrown their words around poorly. I want the game to succeed, and I fully agree that people voicing their opinions and ideas (properly) is what SE wanted. The current state of the forum is not that of people trying to help though, rather it feels like an old western feud between two families lol.
Isn't this enough feedback to show I don't want movement to cancel spells.
I really feel like this thread was made way to early, try it out then complain..i understand official forums....consumers...feedback...etc but constructive criticism cant be made untill the actual content is released. It is all speculation without knowing the full extent of the overall changes. The dev team is trying to save this game they know the future of it better than anyone else, if their final decision was to remove casting and running its because the game will benefit from it overall. And im still kind of confused about the whole spell cancel to instant cast thing...please someone clarify because that mechanic is just as bad as casting and running if not worse...again only speculation at this point...but if it did work like that then consider CNJ godlike.
Please point out the part where I was abusive, or advocated abuse?
I was politely defending a person who was told his opinion didn't matter because he wasn't a game developer. Then you stepped in to stop me and falsely implied that I was promoting abusing people to get one's opinion across. You have some nerve.
First they wanted to be able to cast in passive mode, and now they want to be able to continue moving while casting spells? No wonder why I'm starting to get disappointed in XIV more and more now, as this'll no doubt happen against the better judgment that stationary actions should be canceled when moving.
Playing FFXI, casting and not being able to cast was lame. I would cure myself as paladin, and being pushed back alot would often cancel my spells, which sucked. Or if my finger twitched, which often happens, I move my character by accident canceling the spell. :C
I don't want that in this, I learned from the previous game it sucked, why do I need to see if it'll work in a faster pace environment, because I already know it's going to dull, and not be helpful.
Hmm...Camate...straying from the XI forums eh?! A Moogle in Amalj'aa's clothing!
Hrm, I am not all that troubled by this actually.
Though, I seem to remember in FFXI this feature not working too well with me.
For instance, my finger would just barely touch the arrow key, moving my character less than an inch then spell interupted.
Then there was times were I would cast warp by accident and run around to cancel it and it not work. . .
Or you would stop moving and begin casting (on your end it looks like you did it right) but with the server lag it would actually have you still moving forward slightly...as you try and cast...getting you to the final moment of the cast to see it just get cancelled.
That always drove me bonkers! (which is why I stuck with SCH since you usually had to use an ability THEN cast so I didn't run into the problem as much)
I liked being able to move and cast, too. Did anyone really complain about this? WHY SE
So if an enemy knocks you back you still want the cast to go off? That doesnt make sense, werent you the one complaining that it was stupid that we couldent "walk and talk" assuming spells are chants and not concentrated energy. You still think you can chant or concentrate that energy after being knocked off your feet? I never really had a problem with it in ffxi or any other MMO that had this mechanic (every mmo i've played)
I whole heartedly believe enemies should be able to interrupt casting easier than they do, but there is no reason for walking to interrupt cast..
i'm so sick of those "arguments" sayin 'oh yea it sucks but i got used to it in FFXI / other MMOs so it's ok'.......
I want to hear from the DEVELOPERS why on EARTH they plan to do that......
i mean: what's this unbearable advantage that mages have now after the class changes that this has to be done to keep the balance?
can't we just keep it as it is? -.-
"INCLUDE MAINSTREAM FEATURES FROM OTHER SUCCESSFUL MMOS!"
...
"WAIT! NOT THAT ONE!"
yea that's the answer i want to hear from the devs.
"uknow there is no actual reason, we just noticed today that other MMOs handle it like that as well."
I was still able to move and cast client side...i wonder if its different on the server
Yeah, I actually like this way of addressing certain combat mechanics/features, such as the action queue feature.
Say this with us everyone: MORE OPTIONS = GOOD. Whether it comes to quests (allowing lowman parties to do lesser versions of currently 8-man exclusive quests), combat mechanics (allowing us to flip action queues on/off), UI features, etc. More options = better flexibility for all playstyles = less (not NO, but less) complaining.
Having BOTH options would be great, as there seems to be a pretty huge divide in this thread about this issue.
Makes sense. That's how I cancel spells on WoW all the time, couldn't live without it.
It makes more sense to me that I get interrupted when I am hit, and stop casting. Moving while casting is different.
Also a major factor with attacks canceling a spell, the power of the attack should exceed a limit. Why should an attack that does 1 damage, but blows me 10 feet backwards stop me, I am still standing up on my two feet, the damage inflicted should not have been able to make me go "OW F*beep*"!
Bring this back up, in hopes of getting a better response to why movement canceling is being added, when it's not needed.
If and when they put this in, I wanna see red mage jobstone with free cast.
Only positive thing I can see from a stand-still caster is that you get your MP from standing still.
Oh god, this thread again.
i think Yoshi made a post on it but it has not been translated yet.
Good luck with Moogle fight.
This is not really something to be exclusive to XIV, I never move while casting simply because every single game i've played before, single-player or multi-player would punish me for moving while casting, either by lowering the effect of the spell, increasing the cast time, or flat out canceling it, won't really affect me because i'll just be doing things the same way i have up to now.
Cancelling spell casting when moving will be pretty useful on fights like Ifrit where you need to move out things on the ground, if they implement it correctly... Looking back, I remember the skill for CON that was listed on the official site, which allowed CON to cast spells while moving for a set amount of time, so I imagine this was the plan all along. No complaints here!
