I vote neither option, lets just wait till they have time to fully implement their proposed dyeing method.
Yoshi-p please take your time with this system and make it good
Please don't listen to the few who are impatience we want a good system in place not a rush job.
Ya I vote no to temporary solutions where there is an opportunity cost involved diverting resources away from the important long term permanent things. The Colour ID system sounds good and the community can wait for it. In my opinion aesthetic concerns are not the end of the world and if you feel they are then... uhm... hmmm... I really don't know what to tell you. I didn't buy this game to play fashion show dress up. You can take a page from the RPers and RP that you're wearing armour in the colour you want I suppose until a permament solution is found.
Also, massive thank you to Yoshi-P for taking the time to explain why it is that things are the way they are and not simply saying "Please wait more time, we're working on it, thank you". I know to some it's no excuse blah blah blah... But even with only a cursory understanding of his full explanation it illustrates quite clearly that the solution to the problem is not simply "Just do this..." or "Why can't you just...." as a myriad of posts throughout the forums keep suggesting. There is no "Just do this..." solution. It's a large amount of work and a complete redesign of certain problematic aspects of the foundation. It will take time.
Thanks again Yoshi-P. Keep hammering away at it.
I'd say go with the actual fix, we can deal with the current system as long as we know a good fix is on the way. That's all I think most of us wanted, just to know that a change is coming.
You lot seem to be overlooking that fact that while yes, 'Option 1' would indeed be a diversion of development resources, Yoshida pretty much pointed out himself that while it wouldn't make stats any more advantageous so much as just let people equip gear they nonsensically couldn't wear before (but would probably be a disadvantage statistically if they did), 'Option 2' would require the expenditure of few to no such resources because it's just a case of flipping Required Discipline properties found only on the new gear.
So.. not completely sure I see the logic in this 'Go with neither because either way it's a big enough waste of development resources to matter' stance, personally; at least not beyond wanting to spite players that don't like being Discipline-locked out of wearing an item solely because of its colour. I still say Option 2. As I understand it it gives us a bit more freedom, hurts nobody any differently than the current situation, and takes so little developer time as to not really make a big difference in the grand scheme of things. Probably wouldn't even effect the release dates of future patches any more than doing nothing would.
The logic of it, or mine anyways, is quite simple. At this point we know that SE has a permanent solution on the books. The temporary solutions require additional resources (in varying amounts) and may have an adverse outcome on the timetables currently laid out. Whether or not they implement the temporary solutions, people are inconvenienced to varying degrees in differing ways. It has nothing to do with spiting people; many people all over the map are disatisified in all three scenarios (do nothing, 1, and 2). Assuming that the time between now and the permanent solution will have a plethora of unhappy people in different camps, my sentiment is that the balance of convenience favours the shortest route to the end solution given that many will be unhappy regardless. They may as well inconvenience people for the shortest span of time possible and not take time away from the unrelated improvements to the game assuming that there will be a good amount of nay sayers poopooing these temporary solutions anyhow. There is no happy median. Every road (let's assume save for the final solution) leads to something that sucks to a bunch of people.
I don't think there is a broad enough consensus to merit bothering with the band-aids when the merit of incurring the cost associated with them is seriously wanting.
At this time we should, in my opinion, adapt, propose suggestions for the long haul (as many here do), and accept given the perspective into the problem Yoshi-P has given us that the issue is not a quick fix. That seems to me rational. These quick fixes seem to be rushing into action scrambling any continuity or reliability completely unnecessarily at a time when SE can ill afford milling around temporary issues they have clearly turned their mind to and have plans in the works for anyhow.
Agreed with others - please focus your efforts on the final solution.
I strongly approve the concept of:
- Coloring for individuality
- Shape/size for gear strength/purpose
Love the idea of the color being independent of the armor and being able to do 24+ shades of color for the same armor.
No apology needed Yoshi-P, thanks for all you have done so far ^^ I am loving patch 1.19 and am looking forward to the future.
Oops. I need to fire my fact checker.
Another reason the PL thing didn't bother me is it was obvious it wasn't working as intended and was going to get a hot fix this week or fixed with 1.19a. We really had no clue what the hell was going on with the dye system. Most players don't read every single post in these forums, so some of the cryptic things Yoshi-P may have posted a while ago went unnoticed by the vast majority of players.
The only reason 99% of people are playing this game is because it's free. It's a year old but we are basically still playing a beta. I have little faith in anyone associated with this game or that things such as the dye system will turn out well unless they get feedback from the players.
Meh, this happens, I would like to think with the new gear they are introducing alot of things are still up in the air. the dying system isnt really all that complete. give them time to sort this out i would say starting this thread so the monitors see its an issue is good. and they likely know its an issue. All fixes take time so for now we gotta carry on with what we have with high aspirations for the future.
It still helps the devs if people have direct criticism towards certain aspects of the game..
but hot damn, did people really have to act like jealous babies about who gets PLed and who doesn't? Yes its broken, people took advantage, and once it is fixed, people will not be able to do it ever again. Point being, get over yourself.
We did it guys, we changed the world.Quote:
Gear dyeing will change in patch 1.20.
Dyeing an item with the new recipes implemented in patch 1.19 would not only change its color; the item’s attributes and equipping requirements would also be affected. This essentially rendered players unable to dye gear to their liking. Patch 1.20 will enable players to dye gear without changing its attributes. New recipes will also be implemented that will allow you to voluntarily add attributes to items independent of color.
* The above change is inspired by player suggestions.
I think that on a serious note this does go to show that even the most concrete and already implemented system can still be changed by the playerbase. This dying system was setup and already put into the game and Yoshi still listened to our feedback and axe'd the "color = stat" concept he had in mind when he implemented the system.
The dev-player communication this game has is what I think will be the number 1 reason that this game survives. Keep up the good work Yoshi-P! (Although, having thoroughly explained to us how the system was going to work before it was put into the game might have saved some of the headache of going back and undoing it :P)
Hm, I guess according to the announcement, the real dying system won't be coming until 2.0. Not too surprising, I suppose.
