Final Fantasy XIV 1.23b - Would you Play it if Available?

I love to go back at 1.23. The main reason for me are the players, everyone was helpful. To think there is no DF/PF and every one shouts for dungeons, you can get a party to do a raid. Everyone was so passionate about the game and I can feel the devs willingness to make the game better (right now I feel FF14 lost it's drive to be better/great but it is becoming a cash grab to the players). And finally the mystery beyond the zones (I hate the copy pasted ones) like if you see a level 90 monster roaming hahaha.

I love the current iteration of FFXIV, but I would love to play 1.x for story reasons. And before you say, "You can watch cutscenes on Youtube", there's no context, and I want to be able to walk around in the world with my character, and talk to the random NPCs to see their flavor dialogue. (I also want my character to have an ass)

the butt thing from 1.0 is overblown by one screenshot where characters are in different poses at different angles. At this point, its a joke that 1.0 had bigger butts.

I'm sure you can still find the 1.0 benchmark somewhere. That shows the butts were flat there too.

I would play it if only to experience 1.0 content since I got the game at 3.2 ~ 3.3 ish.

I absolutely loved that version on the game. It held that element of danger, players had grit, and the community was much better imo. Content in the game mattered. notorious monsters.. that had drops to make awesome gear... Fights that wasn’t nerfed because people strove to make themselves a better player by learning the fight and obtaining gear. The gear for the most part now looks like garbage ..and has the same hamster wheel routine to obtain. The pollution of minions , mounts , and cash shop is utterly ridiculous. I think they need to get back to the roots of final fantasy in a lot of ways ..that being said the newest version does some things I like as well but over all they scraped to much of what the original had that made those stick with game when it was having trouble 1.23b was in the right path.. if they do t want to make a classic server.. I’d say open up the code so that that version could be enjoyed privately.

Wouldnt mind the story aspect of 1.0 and some of element's that are not around anymore.

Like exploring had more of element of danger compared to the game now. Had to wait for the boat lol. Limsa lominsa was a single zone.

Definitely miss raising attrubutes and such. So disappointed they took that away eventually.

Also liked the opening sequence for each city state back then.

Maybe one day they'll implement something un the future to revisit parts of story pre ARR.

This. They were a bit higher-poly, though, which is partly what allowed for those different poses to show more difference than the same would if both were in ARR+. Well, that and the lighting differences.

1.0 is why i know SE could do better, and sadly yoshi doesn't realize that just because western mmo's took off doesn't mean that what tanaka did with both XI and XIV 1.0 was bad, the design behind it was just flawed. It feels as though this dev team and yoshi in particular are intentionally not looking at what came before, either out of fear of another dalamud or they just really think a copy of WoW is the answer. Even though WoW had its own downfall when it's developers started creating garbage from Cataclysm on. There is no danger in XIV today, just thousands of hollow quests, FATEs and acres of open world gone to waste.

I wouldnt play it again as it was... but I'd love if the 1.X MSQ could be adopted into XIV in some playable form or fashion. Even if it was an entire flash back patch or some such.

Let me look into my crystal ball. WoW is singlehandedly the most successful MMORPG ever created, and may very well be the most successful video ever created. Yoshi said WoW was the basis for XIV and in era in which they are plenty of F2P games, it's done well for a subscription service.

So, yes, copying WoW is the answer.

Also, in terms of looking at what came before, Square literally runs a first generation MMO. XI is still running and doing well, but it's not exactly breaking subscription numbers.

Considering majority of content atm now is either Eureka or PVP, I would gladly go back to 1.0. I started playing XIV in 1.15b and i remember having more fun with the community and game than current state sadly-

If Eureka will continue into the next Expansion, I am considering for the first time since July 2011 to cancel my subscription. :(

I highly doubt Eureka will be in the next expansion. Each expansion they try to add a new and different type of content. Eureka just happened to be the content for this expansion, Diadem was from Heavenward. We will most likely get some new type of experimental content in the next expansion. I feel like so many people are mad because the Relic and unique items are locked behind Eureka, which is optional content. There are plenty of other things to do in the game aside from Eureka. But I digress.

I would love to be able to get my cutscenes from 1.0 back. It would be cool to have a "flashback" and be able to roam the old landscapes. I loved 1.23 for what it was, and miss the open world aspects of it a lot. I do agree that the game we have now can feel a bit like waiting in line for an amusement park (depending on your role) but 2.0+ is a much better game in execution. I do miss 1.23 for various reasons and hope that Yoshi and the team will try to take some more of the good things from 1.23 and incorporate them into the game moving forward, but we'll see.

The point of looking back isn't to copy the progression system of XI, it's to copy the designs of the content they created. WoW was good, but it has been as or more stagnant since Cataclysm and It doesn't even come close to being as continuously successful as Grand Theft Auto Online or GTAV ["The $6 billion revenues, for example, is far past the $4 billion achieved by best-selling films such as Star Wars and Gone With The Wind (adjusted for inflation, and adding DVD sales to the $3 billion box office receipts). With 90 Million copies sold world wide."]. And people continue to think WoW is somewhere above XIV when it isn't. They both average around 500k-650k active characters per month and WoW did okay overseas but nothing like XIV has done, WoW is a western MMO and has catered to the market and cultural behaviors of NA mostly. No it is not the only avenue to take, it just happened to be the biggest because nothing compared to it, now we have two stagnant vertically progressed mmorpgs competing over the same crown with the same hamster wheels.

While I'm not about to say that a underfunded and comparatively infantile (yet to be well polished or iterated upon) game like 1.15b was better, in virtually any way, than the current game, I have to admit that it did feel a lot more compelling back then to just log on, do whatever I want for as long as I want, and log off when I want. It felt damn near cathartic most days. And of course, that's always more true of a game in which you still have things to level than not (I only had a few jobs at level cap, and a few more half way or higher), a lot of that does come down to what 1.15b had... or avoided having.

Oddly enough, the closest I get to that kind of catharsis now--which used to come from gathering in the Shroud on stormy nights, grinding mobs, party-dungeoning, or just about anything else--I can only get from tryharding normal content for shits-and-giggles. Very rarely it can come from soloing FATEs when leveling, too, but that's been rendered so obsolete it's not even funny.

There was a reason SE, deleted the game and fired the staff. Let sleeping dogs lie.

they did not fire all the staff and did not delete the game. to do things faster they used a lot of codes from the old ffxiv when they were making Realm reborn.
