and anyone tested what is the caps for sarnga +1? best dps and damage.. maybe arc > brd as dd with these new equip (gryphon and sarnga)
I haven't had the time to test stat caps with different bows, nor have I played around with a Sarnga at all, but I can say that in 1.22c, Flame Lieutenant's Bow will probably beat out every non-relic bow, including Garuda's Spine. It is close enough in DPS to where it should only lose a few points of damage on WSs, but should have significantly more powerful Light Shots.
edit: fixed typo
Yeah, thanks for the catch, haha.
Hi guys !
With the newly added GC's bows in patch 1.22c I'm thinking of using a Storm lieutenant's bow instead of my good old Ifrit's bow (Garuda's is sadly not an option right now).
With my current setup I have 300 DEX and 331 PIE, which should be enough to cap my stats with Ifrit's bow if I am not mistaken, and some attack+ and STR+ here and there as well.
So, would it be worth it to change it for a Storm lieutenant's bow ? I could probably add another ~20 DEX and ~15 PIE easily by swapping a few pieces but I'd also lose ~30 attack and ~15 STR, not to mention the +30 att from the Ifrit's bow itself.
Any advice is welcome :)
I'm actually very surprised no one has done this yet but I suppose I will take this task upon my self maybe as early as this weekend. Not for the sarnga +1 specifically mind you but for all weapons. Do to the linier nature of stat # vs damage in this game finding the governing equation for DPS Vs. Stat caps is incredibly easy, just takes someone with excel, a parser and 3 or 4 weapons with a decent DPS range.
Has anyone done any stat testing with the new Officer's Gear from the GC? Also, what about the new Officer Bows from the GC? Thanks for the discussion! It has been extraordinarily helpful!
Not really sure what officers equipment you think would really benefit Archer or Bard that much, do you have any more specific questions. That being said the Flame Lieutenant’s Bow in my opinion is much better than any other bow in the game save the BRD relic of course. Its about .75 DPS lower than the Garuda’s Spine so your stat caps will be abit lower and WS will hit for abit less, however what it loses in WS damage it make up for and then some with its 109 DMG for light shots and barrage. With 38 more DMG than the Garuda’s Spine it hits like a dump truck in comparison. Not to mention the +30 atk you get which of course narrows the gap a little with respect to WS vs the Garuda’s Spine as well.
I currently have the Uldahn Officer's Overcoat, Hat, Gloves, and Boots. I personally thought the stats on this gear beat out the BRD AF Gear. Obviously, the BRD AF Gear is useful in certain situations (song buffs, etc.). Since I have terrible luck when it comes to Primal Weapon drops, I thought the Flame Lieutenant’s Bow would be a good option until a drop finally happens. Of course, the BRD Relic Weapon would be optimal but that's definitely more of a long term goal for me.
Personaly the only gear I would consider using on bard from Ul'dahs GC is the Flame Liutenant's bow, and the Flame Sergeant's Sash. Bard AF hat, shoes and pants are pretty much best in slot unless you want to get into double melds which even then you could only really beat the pants with double melded dex raptorskin subligar. The paragon's crown is pretty much the only hat better than the AF and DL feet are the only feet better than AF. Damage wise a Raptorskin Harness with a singe Piety IV on it is better than the Choral shirt, not by alot though and you loose out on the Balade bonus. For your accessories you just want to stack Piety, Dex and Atk to try to get closer to the 350 PTY 310 DEX cap for that bow. Actually the capse for the Flame Liutenant's bow are abit higher than that, not by much though. Regardless your main focus should always be to get as close to the PTY and DEX cap as you can, then fill the rest of your slots out with ATK or ACC if you can't put PTY or DEX in them.
Awesome! I've been using this guide to help build my "endgame" gear set. I am planning on buying the bow and the sash. I have the accessories recommended on the guide already. Baby steps in the right direction. Thanks again!
A lot of the information in the guide is now outdated again, unfortunately. I will try to put together an update as soon as I finish my Artemis Bow.
I just resub'd and this is great information. Thank you!
amazing guide, thank you so much
How much damage should a lv 24 archer be doing? I do about 60~80 per skill.. but my friend (hes one of the mage classes ) does like 200+ ..and he has the ability to heal. What the heck am I doing wrong? Maybe im not using my skills correctly? Or maybe its because im only buying warped arrows? Not to mention it takes forever to be able to do some real damage as tp takes a while to fill up...
Yea, you will need to keep your arrows up to date as they contribute considerably to your damage. At your level you can use Iron Arrows which you can buy at the Archer's Guild in Gridania or using company seals. I'd check the markets though, you might be able to find them for cheap.
Is it better to use a bow with lower DPS (like Ifrit's bow) for which I can reach the stat caps or the Lieutenant's Bow but being unable to reach the stat caps?
(Artemis Bow is not an option yet^^°)
well one thing of note that ppl seem to overlook is that WS dmg uses the DPS rating in the formula itself. So if you keep everything constant and only swap in and out bows, the one with the highest DPS rating will do the most dmg.
I can double-check later to compare exact stats, but with roughly equivalent gear, over 4 Garuda kills today, Artemis Bow was doing about 20 points more damage per Light Shot against Garuda compared to Mischievous Mogbow (116 base dmg vs 100) and about 20-40 points more damage per one-hit WS (41.95 dps vs 37.14).
I'm trying to reach cap stat with brd, but with Garuda's Spine, what's the stat cap? 340PIE 315DEX? or lower?
OK, I could use a little guidance from the esteemed arc/brd community in regard to my current end-game gear. My current setup is as follows: (Note: Kindly bear in mind that relic, Garuda Bow, and darklight armor are not an option at this time.)
Base stats this setup, solo, no food:
Pie 323 / Dex 286 / Atk 600 / Acc 379
Weapon: Ifrit's Bow **
Head: Paragon's Crown
Body: Raptorskin Harness (+33 pie meld)
Hands: Felt Bracers +1 (+48 attack) **
Legs: Militia Sublilgar
Feet: Explorer's Moccasins
Waist: Flame Sergeant's Sash
Ear: Explorer's
Neck: Electrum Gorget +1
Wrists: Tourmaline +1
Rings: 1 Tourmaline +1 / 1 Spinel +1 (can swap in 2 each +1 - Tourmaline, Spinel, Electrum)
(Note: I gear swap macro bard AF for the various songs - body/legs/hands)
The two pieces I'm having trouble with are weapon and hands. From what I've read, above, it appears I should spring for a Flame Lieutenant's Bow. However, I'm wondering if a double meld on Giantsgall Bow to help me max attribute stats would be better. If I successfully do that, I should be very close to stat caps, both pie/dex, and I'd probably be ok with my 2x attack hands. If I go with the Flame Lieutenant's Bow, should I replace my 2x attack hands with 2x dex?
I'm guessing the best direction for me would be Flame Lieutenant's Bow and 2x dex hands. This would put me @ roughly 341 pie and 300 dex, base, solo stats.
Any guidance here, is sincerely appreciated. Thanks.
Edit notes: Well impatient as I tend to be, I went ahead and made up some double dex hands and bought the GC bow. Puts me @ 347 pie / 304 dex solo, without food/buffs. Hope I did the right thing. Regards
Should probably use the ATK hands regardless of your bow. Otherwise, looks pretty good to me.
My favorite testing targets for convenience are the static amalj'aa outside Zahar'ak -- I think the Halberdiers in particular are always L52. So you could do some quick reps of Light Shot and basic WSs against those to directly compare one pair of gloves to the other.
Carraway is that true that SE raised main and second stats? liek main : 380 and second : 330
I saw it through this : http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-new-stat-caps
thanks for your answer in advance.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, although I have to admit I'm surprised at your recommendation of the attack gloves vs. dex, as I thought attribute stats > all until cap. I kept the attack gloves, so I will go test the two, as you suggest.
Edit notes: As you suggested, Carraway, I did a quick eyeball test on this. Maybe I should have targeted the 52 lancers but I grabbed the 50 pugs. Anyhow, this isn't even close. The attack gloves are noticeably and vastly superior to the dex gloves - especially obvious on Light Shot, as one might suspect, but even the WS, granted the very small sample. Wheter I choose to under-cap myself in pie or dex, it doesn't seem to make a difference. I must admit I'm very confused by this, given that all job forums advocate attribute caps > everything else first. Now I'm wondering if the same is true for my mnk war drg, with the 2x str gloves i purposely made up for those jobs vs. atk gloves.
I currently don't have a parser so I end up eyeballing these things, and mostly rely on the much more intensive and thorough testing done by knowledgeable folks, such as yourself. Anyhow, thanks again for taking the time to head me in the right direction. Regards.
Carraway is correct.
I would go with PIE>ATK>DEX when gearing Brd. The cap on dex is more around 280 for AA which will affect your light shot/barrage. This is pretty easy to achieve. Always go atk gloves.
The Flame Lieutenant's Bow > Ifrit also. Pretty much any GC bow is better then ifrit.
Thanks to both you and Carraway for the kind guidance. Without getting into extensive testing for my mnk war drg, would the same apply to those jobs? I.E. - the attack gloves vs. str gloves. I'm guessing probably not, since the primary stat for all 3 is str, whereas arc/brd is a little out of the norm with dex capping so low.
Thanks again for you guidance.
The general rule on those jobs is to cap str at 350, 2ndary to 300ish (280 for AA) then to do Atk. Remember, Str adds to atk as well(3:2 though you don't see it in the stats it does parse this way), where as with the BRD dex really adds nothing of value (acc isnt a problem for most brds).
I have a couple questions here actually.
1) How exactly does Raging Strike work with barrage? Does each hit increase the buff, or just the first one? I ask because I know they patched multi-hit skills a while ago so I was wondering if that affected the raging strike barrage combo. I looked around but couldn't find a definitive answer.
2) Is it really worth adding any crit attack power at all if your gear set isnt designed around it? Even triple melding +120 crit attack power to a body seems like it would offer pretty underwhelming results. I ask because, obviously, the guide is a bit outdated. I remember someone did some testing with crit attack power a bit ago, and it looked like it had to be stacked quite a bit. Idk if any more recent testing has been done.
3) HQ arrows...worth the effort? Especially for Bard since its like a hybrid support/dps class. HQ arrows aren't that terribly hard to get, but are a bit time-consuming considering how quickly arrows deplete. Is the dmg increase significant, or minor?
I'd like some advice on my gear set if anyone could help me out. :)
Weapon: Giantsgall Longbow (+16 DEX, though thinking of changing to PIE and double melded hands with DEX)
Head: Choral Chapeau
Body: Rainmaker's Tunic (aiming for +16 PIE)
Waist: Scarlet Sash
Hands: Felt Bracers (+16 DEX)
Legs: Felt Trousers (aiming for Swordsman's Cry)
Feet: Choral Sandals
Accessories:
Peach Blossom
Electrum Gorget
Tourmaline Bracelets
Tourmaline Ring x2
~Planning on buying +1 accessories.
Stats with this setup: 298 PIE, 285 DEX, 501 ATK, 386 ACC
I'd just like to know how I can improve it, since I'm not particularly close to caps- is any of the Gridania GC gear any good? Also, I've been using Finger Sandwiches but wasn't sure if there was anything better to use?
I have a question.
I thought DPS was a calculation of the weapon's overall Damage Per Second potential, namely when used perfectly, in a stationary, controlled fashion (ie using the weapon's skills in the "perfect" sequence in tandem with class abilities, never being interrupted by AOE's, never missing, etc) the weapon can potentially produce X amount of Damage Per Second on a mob of roughly equal level to you.
But Damage doesn't happen in a vacuum, we aren't just standing there in a line slamming a mob with damage racing to the biggest number. We are running away from Eruptions and Sweeps, we are healing ourselves and others, raising, stoneskinning, singing songs, etc etc.
So my question is a two parter:
1. Is DPS a combination of everything I mentioned above, or is it some sort of separate value that dictates the potential power of weapon skills?
2. Considering the sporadic nature of a Bard's attacks (less so for archers, but still) compared to WAR/DRG/MNK, shouldn't we focus on being able to do the most damage during our shorter Attack Windows? ie High Damage/High Delay/High Critical?
Highest DPS in this case wouldn't really translate to most damage done in a battle, potentially speaking?
Also, thanks for the awesome thread everyone who has contributed, I'm learning a ton!
Oh, and if anyone has Caps for the Giantsgall Longbow I would really appreciate it!
I melded Crit Attack to it already as I'm stacking that for my set, but now I'm thinking I jumped the gun... Someone make me feel better about my choice!
1) The DPS on any weapon is just a magic number that represents how much damage you'd be doing if all you did was Light Shot every time the skill was available (or just auto-attack, for other classes/jobs). No additional stats taken into account, no buffs, no delays, no weaponskills, nothing.
2) Yes, in some cases, ARC/BRD in particular (due to Barrage and the manual nature of Light Shot), sometimes higher-damage lower-DPS can win out. Ifrit's Bow vs Crab Bow +1 (36.74 vs 37.00) is one such example. Ifrit's Bow technically has a lower DPS listed on it, but it'll generally produce more damage than a Crab Bow +1.
That said, weaponskill damage is based off of the DPS number, not the weapon damage, so you can't totally neglect DPS.
Ahhh.
Thanks.
I want to say that each hit increases the buff but I'd need to double-check first. Should be easy to test.
Crit atk is one of the most powerful stats for physical DPS if you have ways of artificially forcing crits, either through Blindside or increased crit chance % weaponskills, a la DRG/MNK in particular. For BRD, we don't have those same options, unfortunately, so I would personally stay away from weighting crit atk heavily.Quote:

Everyone's valuations are going to probably differ slightly based on time/money, but I do think that if you have the mats lying around or a lot of gil, HQ arrows are certainly worth it. 3 base damage is not insignificant, especially if you have a fast bow like Garuda's Spine.Quote:

Now this is what I read elsewhere, but I'd like to know if it is actually bullocks or not...
The DPS determines your base damage range between an upper and lower limit. Attack Power increases the upper limit. Stats (dex/pie) increase the lower limit. So with attack power you can do more damage and dex/pie make your damage more reliable.
When I was told this, I decided to compare my existing Crab Bow +1 (DPS=37, +15 Attack power, +18 dexterity materia) to a new giantsgall longbow (DPS=38.5, dexterity +5) by using light shot on some L1 coblyns outside the Ul'dah main gates. All other gear being equal, I was always doing more damage with the giantsgall in spite of lower dex and attack power, convincing me that the weapon's core DPS remains the most important statistic no matter what else you do.
/want relic
/ulterior motive of wanting to reliably 1-shot Garuda's plumes
There's a plethora of decent GC gear you can use for Bard, much I strongly recommend.
Head: Gridanian Officer's Cap (+30 HP, +30 MP, +15 PIE +10 Crit Hit Rating, Sanction: +15 ATK. Better than the default AF hat.)
Body: Gridanian Officer's Overcoat (+10 STR, +10 DEX, +10 PIE, +10 INT. The DEX/PIE alone make this great. Add in the +120 Crit Attack bonus from Sanction effect and it's a no brainer. Great too if you happen to be leveling MNK in addition.)
Neck: Serpent Sergeant's Choker (Better than a NQ Electrum Choker and with added effects from gear grants you +15 Crit Attack. +27 ATK +15 Crit Attack)
Food I recommend either Jerked Beef (PIE/ATK) or Salt Cod Puffs (DEX/ACC) depending on which is needed most for your situations.
My Setup
Bow: Serpent Lieutenant's Bow / Giantsgall Longbow (+18 DEX)
Head: Gridanian Officer's Cap
Body: Choral Shirt / Gridanian Officer's Overcoat
Hands: Choral Ringbands / Felt Bracers (Blue) (+32 DEX)
Legs: Felt Kecks (Blue) (+10 INT/PIE) / Coliseum Subligar (+9 STR/DEX)
Waist: Veteran's Field Belt / Scarlet Sash
Feet: Choral Sandals
Neck: Serpent Sergeant's Choker
Earrings: Serpent Sergeant's Earrings
Bracelet: Serpent Sergeant's Bracelets / Tourmaline Bracelets
Rings: 2x Tourmaline Rings +1 / 1x Tourmaline Ring +1 and 1x Spinel Ring +1
My setup can vary on just what role I'm going to be doing. I almost always leave my Choral Shirt equipped for the bonus to Ballad songs. If I may be doing Minuet instead I switch my setup to fit that exchanging the ringbands for my bracers. So if I'm doing Minuet it might look like this...
Bow: Giantsgall Longbow (+18 DEX)
Hands: Choral Ringbands
Waist: Veteran's Field Belt
Legs: Coliseum Subligar (+9 STR/DEX)
Bracelet: Tourmaline Bracelet
Typically in this setup I will then use Salt Cod Puffs to negate the ACC loss. It's especially important if being a lone bard I will be playing songs on separate party members. During this time it's best I leave my choral shirt on too so I maximize my Ballad potential. You might notice I use those earrings which by all right have no use really, they've got no benefits for a Bard. I use these to count for the required gear to gain the bonus from my choker. There's few gear choices in this slot that help a Bard so it's not much of a loss.
Typical Ballad Setup
Bow: Serpent Lieutenant's Bow
Head: Gridanian Officer's Cap
Body: Choral Shirt
Hands: Felt Bracers (Blue) (+32 DEX)
Legs: Felt Kecks (Blue) (+10 INT/PIE)
Waist: Veteran's Field Belt
Feet: Choral Sandals
Neck: Serpent Sergeant's Choker
Earrings: Serpent Sergeant's Earrings
Bracelet: Serpent Sergeant's Bracelets
Rings: 1x Tourmaline Ring +1 and 1x Spinel Ring +1
Food: Jerked Beef
Base Stats: 304 DEX, 314 PIE 524 ATK, 396 ACC
Final Stats: 304 DEX, 321 PIE, 577 ATK, 396 ACC (With Food/Sanction.)
Typical Minuet Setup
Bow: Giantsgall Longbow (+18 DEX)
Head: Gridanian Officer's Cap
Body: Gridanian Officer's Overcoat
Hands: Choral Ringbands
Legs: Coliseum Subligar (+9 STR/DEX)
Waist: Scarlet Sash
Feet: Choral Sandals
Neck: Serpent Sergeant's Choker
Earrings: Serpent Sergeant's Earrings
Bracelet: Tourmaline Bracelets
Rings: 2x Tourmaline Ring +1
Food: Jerked Beef
Base Stats: 296 DEX, 328 PIE, 504 ATK, 371 ACC
Final Stats: 296 DEX, 335 PIE, 556 ATK, 414 ACC (With Food/Sanction/Song)
Typical Dual Song Setup
Bow: Giantsgall Longbow (+18 DEX)
Head: Gridanian Officer's Cap
Body: Gridanian Officer's Overcoat
Hands: Choral Ringbands
Legs: Coliseum Subligar (+9 STR/DEX)
Waist: Scarlet Sash
Feet: Choral Sandals
Neck: Serpent Sergeant's Choker
Earrings: Serpent Sergeant's Earrings
Bracelet: Tourmaline Bracelets
Rings: 2x Tourmaline Ring +1
Food: Jerked Beef / Salt Cod Puffs
Base Stats: 293 DEX, 335 PIE, 504 ATK, 371 ACC
Final Stats 1: 293 DEX, 335 PIE, 556 ATK, 371 ACC (With Jerked Beef/Sanction)
Final Stats 2: 300 DEX, 328 PIE, 519 ATK, 397 ACC (With Salt Cod/Sanction)
These are just typical setups I may use. Often I'll swap out pieces to try balancing out my stats. And just for fun...
Archer Setup (Specifically used for Solo purposes.)
Bow: Serpent Lieutenant's Bow
Head: Gridanian Officer's Cap
Body: Gryphonskin Jerkin (Black) (+20 PIE)
Hands: Felt Bracers (Blue) (+32 DEX)
Legs: Felt Kecks (Blue) (+10 INT/PIE)
Waist: Veteran's Field Belt
Feet: Gryphonskin Thighboots (Black) (+22 M.Evasion)
Neck: Serpent Sergeant's Choker
Earrings: Serpent Sergeant's Earrings
Bracelet: Serpent Sergeant's Bracelets
Rings: 2x Tourmaline Ring +1
Food: Jerked Beef / Salt Cod Puffs
Base Stats: 291 DEX, 334 PIE, 548 ATK, 394 ACC (With Sanction)
Not going to bother including the stats with food since I usually skip using any. It's seldom I'll ever fight anything so strong that it'll take my head off. Sometimes I switch to the Giantsgall Longbow because I think its color matches my scheme, and at that time I swap some stuff out like I do for my Minuet setup.
