I have to ask... your name... where/how did you come up with it?

I'm surprised SE even answered this rediculous topic. People leave «Shinra Corporation» because of the FC, they're not particularly pleasant people, they were even notorious (and avoided) in the first month, certainly not over a maintenance. If members left over maintenance, they would have stopped subscribing, not flat-out switched Free Companies. Still would have said a lot about the members. Still, if that's what they have decided to believe and exclaim to everyone, fine with me.
But dont waste SE's time and ours with questions they themselves could answered with a few seconds of logical thinking. There are far more important questions on these boards deserving of answers opposed to "Why didnt you give us advance notice of what you were going to change during the maintenance so we could quickly exploit it". :/
...What? We don't care what the contents of the hotfix is, the point is you could have said "Servers will be down for 5 hours tomorrow" and it would have been ok. The point is, you didn't give any notice until 10 minutes before...
Edit - ...Wait, I think you guys didn't understand my point xD I was saying that the mod didn't reply to what the OP was moaning about, I don't give a crap about maintenance haha.
The downtime has not been bad at all & I play every single day after I get home from work. The maintenance times are almost always middle of the night which is ideal for the majority of people. I would much prefer regular maintenance to ensure the game is running as it should during the prime time hours that I play, as apposed to the opposite where you wind up with a completely broken game as it almost was at launch...tons of people couldn't even log in. Let's be realistic here people...any company that offers digital services that run off servers, WILL have regular maintenance with some emergency ones mixed in. THAT'S HOW IT IS. What about online banking...consistent & regular maintenance scheduled during hours where the services are less used. Or maybe an online clothing site...hmmm...yep, seen those down for maintenance when browsing late nights at times. Just like you change the oil in your car or replace the tires every so many miles, computers need that kind of attention too...especially when they are running 24/7 with high traffic/usage. Drive your hard 24 hours a day constantly & tell me that there will be no kind of maintenance/upkeep at all. My god...can people be any less grateful for services rendered these days...makes me proud to be part of an older crowd.
As for the not telling people about bugs or price changes until they get changed...I agree with Marishi-Ten 100%. That should be one of those "DUH" moments.
I'm pretty sure the working definition of "emergency" constitutes something that merits immediate attention and can happen swiftly and without warning.
What cannot be helped cannot be helped. I have been mad about these maintenances from the get go but I am getting okay with it now...if it helps and fixes the game I guess we just have to deal with it.
Getting 90k'd all the time these past few days, that and the last-minute 5hr. maint.
Free day is appropriate from a customer-service standpoint.
Greetings, everyone.
I apologize for the inconveniences caused by the emergency maintenance the other night.
I'd like to give a rough overview of the reason for the emergency maintenance. Due to a server setting, when players were being transitioned into content, bugs would occur due to various circumstances and they needed to be addressed immediately. As this bug only appeared under circumstances where there is extreme congestion, we were unable to find it through our normal course of testing.
Additionally, we are aware that this bug was still occurring for a small number of people and we've conducted another emergency maintenance to address this.
Moving forward, we'll be taking all of the feedback in this thread into consideration and doing our best to make improvements. Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience.
Haven't had any problems at all since launch, i'm on Siren. Also no need to apologize.

I think Quiz was responding to the notion that the PS4 is the number one console in the world right now. I think maybe you mistake number one 'selling' console, for the number one 'adopted' console. PS4 is "not" the number one adopted console atm of course. Two rather different statements. Maybe could have worded it better.
You're right. I was laughing at the person saying that 5 million units sold was the number 1 in the world. Did every xbox 360, ps3, ps2, DS, 3DS etc just cease to exist? Hell there are probably still more working NES and/or SNES in the world than there are ps4. Most of the hardware I listed has TENS OF MILLIONS sold. Let me say it in another way. They have OVER 10 TIMES AS MANY UNITS AS PS4. Just because ps4 is hot right now doesn't excuse english skills because it "suits" your arguement.
No need to apologize for something that can't be helped. Square needn't be sorry for the Emergency Maintenance's that occurred. It's impact went from low to critical on the implementation and integration of the PS4 servers taxing the capacity of the host(s). That's no ones fault.
Emergency Maintenance(s) are performed if there is real danger of hardware failure, data corruption, or widespread occurrences. Can't predict/plan/notify in advance for that. Your dev wing did what they needed to do to protect the states of character data, server integrity, and continued functionality. They shouldn't have to explain themselves and they absolutely shouldn't be sorry.
I want to apologize for the poor treatment of your IT/dev wing. Frustration from not understanding/not wanting to understand/can't understand normally sparks negative comments. Moving forward, it's hoped that threads such as these and others are not as prevalent.
Because it is. I don't see how you can't grasp this conception. The principle of it being "right now" is exactly what it sounds like. What is the highest grossing/selling/earning/etc product in it's field RIGHT NOW AT THIS VERY SECOND. Not "6 months from now if the trend continues" or "within a certain period". It's late though. Feel free to try to justify your own lack of comprehension below while I sleep. (And for the record, I know what you were going for, you just did an awful job of it)
Does Sony pay you to be a fanboy? I don't really understand what the big deal is about the PS4 and where it is in sales, or why you're having an argument over it being number one. Relating to the topic and your conjecture that maintenance was somehow related to an influx of new players because of the PS4 beta, even if the PS4 is selling well, not everyone who owns a PS4 now or plans to buy one in the near future is going to play FFXIV so that's not necessarily a correlation.
Ill contribute more and say how there's gonna be more servers down this month due to it, during second phase of beta, and after official launch. But you dont have to take my word for it, you can just act surprised and pissed about it when it happens, and we will just create more threads like this instead :)
Ah, let me clarify. Yes, I do think there will be server issues because of the PS4.
What I'm asking is, why does it matter if the PS4 is the best selling system now or of all time? That's the part that I think is not relevant. Sorry for any confusion on the matter.
