It's cheating. Don't waste your time disagreeing. (incoming wave of people doing it anyway)
As a tank, I like knowing what I'm doing prior to starting a new instance. It takes all of three minutes to skim through a write up, and the time I save on the back end typically makes the investment well worth it.
While I don't consider leading or studying the dungeon a tank-exclusive activity, I do consider it my job to make sure my inexperience isn't someone else's problem.
The problem is that the learning curve in this game quickly becomes steep in a few places. You go from places where the biggest mechanics are "don't stand in red" to places like Qarn where the mechanics are still pretty straightforward but will give you a bad time if you don't identify and deal with them promptly.
Either way, for all the posturing done on both sides in this discussion, it all boils down to common courtesy. Tanks shouldn't act like we're Nald'thal's gift to the group, nor should the group expect a randomly assigned tank to spoonfeed them gear and content.
I like knowing what I'm doing too, but the resources aren't always there. In my first time through any given dungeon in beta/early access, I knew nothing and had to feel my way through it. I mark targets for DPS in this game only because it's difficult to hold aggro on a target that someone else is attacking; in most cases it's hard to tell which trash mob is the most dangerous. If I don't mark CC, then that is my statement that CC is not needed, you are wasting your cast time trying to sleep it when you could be nuking my marked focus and I'm probably going to break the sleep anyways.
I'll be 100% fine with being expected (as the tank) to lead the group, mark kill order and mark enemies to be CC'd as soon as I (as the tank) am granted the ability to kick over zealous DD's who ignore my instructions and marks from the party. I'd rather replace a stupid DD or go on 1 player down than leave the dungeon, but that's sometimes the only option unless you enjoy headache inducing runs.
1/ That rule applies to anybody, any job, not just tank. When you queue for Duns, it is YOUR responsible to go through until the end. Now, with that being said, if the run is HORRIBLE and the team is a DISASTER, ofc, you have the right to stop wasting your time. However,if it is not for that reason, it is UNACCEPTABLE to leave the rest hang-in mid run. I have seen people bailed out after two pulls of trash mobs in SV or after they have what they need. Wtf? O-O... Tank, sadly is the most leaving.
2/ Yes and No : Tank is Tank. Tank is no assigned to be group leader by default nor a walking Wikipedia. If they know that need to be done and want to lead, great. If they have no idea or unsure, I prefer a experienced team member lead over them anytime of the day. Nobody is no one's leader. It is EVERYONE's duty to try their hardest for the group, to make sure the run carrying smoothly and finishing it. Don't be lazy and be a team player. Tank's job is to control the fight and make the odd into the team's favour, not there be a nanny or the leading part.
3/ I agree with the part marking the mobs tank gonna attack in what order but for CC, it is not mandatory has to be done by the tank. In fact, I think anyone that can CC should do the job marking it. Not only it shows teamwork, less burden for the tank but the CC party has more control over it rather than relying on tank. Any good team players can make the job done easily.
However, as a tank, I have a few criteria that I expect from any tank :
- Be a team player. It is a 4 man party, not a party with 3 plus 1. We, non- tank, players, rely on tank to a certain extend to get the job done. Being needed and relied on don't mean you can do whatever you like, being arrogant, skip chests unnecessary, and not follow instruction, or screw others up at crucial moments.
- Be at the front line. It is tank duty to start the fight, not Dps, not healer. You are required to be at front line, not back line, and most important, charge in. I don't remember how many times I have to summon my Titan to do the Tank job because the Tank refuse to get aggro. When SMN pet has to do the Tank job, it means you Tank fails so hard. If you are a scaredy cat, timid personality, easily get panicked, don't play a Tank. Play a DPS is much more suitable for you. Don't screw others just because you are a tank and you are scared....
