As much as I am tired of the Scions, this would be preferable to me. I honestly believe that the trust system is plot armor for all of the Scions since they would have to redo all of the older dungeon trusts to account for a Scion death and SE probably wouldn't do that. I think my preferred storyline has us teaming up with Erenville and Krile for the majority of the expansion to develop their characters and change it up. My biggest hope is there being no existential threat this expansion and the majority of it is a build up to a Gulool Ja encounter or some behind the scenes things that are a Tural specific problem and not a world ending threat.
I don't think they actually would. If you look at how duty support works, it becomes very clear there are many different versions of each character in the game. The ones you see in Trust are separate, and SE has shown in both systems they do have the ability to control which characters are available for what dungeons. So, that in mind, they wouldn't have to change a thing. Regular duty assist kinda takes care of itself already in this regard, yeah? Making it work in Trust is as simple as capping any dead Scions at just below the minimum level for the next dungeon, thereby preventing their use for anything that comes after their death/(s). It's what they did with Ryne. She didn't die, but they capped her at Shadowbingus.
I think the narrative gets awkward if you are going back to level a new job after you have gotten past the point where someone dies and now all of a sudden they are back for you running a duty support dungeon. I guess that's just an inherent problem with the narrative and duty support in that it really makes no sense as everyone just goes back in time to do it again.
You kind of have to suspend your disbelief when going back to old content out of release order. Imagine a new player going all the way through the Endwalker MSQ, then deciding to go back and do the Warring Triad and wondering why Y'shtola and Urianger are in their old outfits, or Eden and wondering why Thancred and Urianger are still on the First. Or, hell, leveling up in another job, going back to do dragoon, and meeting Estinien as a fugitive in the job quests after already doing the entire MSQ where he's a national hero.
Think of it more like replaying the past. You using Trust or duty support to queue for an old dungeon isn't actually your character revisiting it. It's got no bearing on the story at all. So, a dead character still being present for the replay checks out. You're simply redoing it as it was.
They won't kill a scion
You can accept this fate or defy it, but you can't deny it
