Devs shouldn't give up on races after Viera.

SoulEchelon, I get you on wanting a canine race lol but this reply I want to raise an option to make some canine race aesthetics with ones that exist!

The werewolf set is 5 USD on lodestone yeah? Ears alone aren't necessarily enough sure, but I'd like to raise that if you use any race that has a dark nose option (namely Hellsguard or Lalafells) you can totally pair that with the ears and maaaaaybe torso sets with tails to make a canine person.

Fox people and small mustache dogs are super possible with lalas. Wolf people, huskies, german shepherds, etc. are doable with roes. Female roes are easier than males yeah but both work! Just gotta structure faces to build into the look.

XD This isn't criticism or anything also, but I've seen a lot of people voice interest in canine options when it's really doable without even using mods! Tbh if the devs made a few more options on mog station for glamours with tails or possibly gloves/shoes suggesting paws that would totally address the point imo.

Haven't added the ears yet here because I'll need dye and glamour abilities and they're still babies, but the roe I plan to make look like Okami while the girl lala I'm aiming to go fox. I'm not using the boy lala but modeled him off a yorkshire terrier.

Having more than just ears would be nice, though. For example, I have glamours for both my Vanu/Zundu head, as well as the replica Behemoth helm. Basically, anything that makes my Roegadyn not look like a Roegadyn. The werewolf ears don't do this and it's dumb that the werewolf tail is stuck to the body and not the pants (also the clawed gloves are shiny leather and looks really bad). If we got a Lupin head/mask (treated like the Vanu head, etc), then I guess I'll be fine with that... but I'll still be pining for the rest.

I get you! I think it might depend a bit on whether it's a humaoid or beast tribe type race in a way though? Part of why I mentioned the options I did was because if it was canine counterpart to say, Miqo'te or Viera, that's basically ears, nose, maaaaybe claws and tail. Having full beast tribe design options as gear (heads, torsos, hands, feet + tails, whole thing) where it is full body immersive would be really smart though for devs imo. Possibly less work overall if they don't have to put in subtle details on face customization. If there are any dye options at all that would be HUGE.

Also, consider the options of making small versions of beast races by putting gear on lalas.

Agreed on the werewolf tail and gloves though. Pairing with claws of the beast and wolfseye coat might help I think, but I think more options would be a good idea.

I really hope we can get more small/large or even different races. It's a bit tiring to see the hyur model changed a bit and that's it.
I think that one of the greatest charms in the FF universe and most JRPGs is how creative they can get with different races, so while I get the limitations that surrounds it, it's a shame that we get so little diversity when it comes to that in 14.

Wish they would just give us the FFXII moogles. They have a very unique appearance and would work with all the gear we have. I would fantasia in a heart beat.

As for the reasoning behind why, it's because I'm simply not interested in making characters that look 'cute' or 'moe', if I wanted that I'd just play BnS or Tera.
