What about Mario Kart 8, Breath of the Wild, or Splatoon? I'm worried you're equating busier textures with better graphics, which just isn't Nintendo's style. They put more stock into physics, lighting, draw distance, and consistent frame rates.

So, we can be sure that the Switch is at least as powerful as the Wii U.

The Skyrim reveal was more of an encouragement of their being 3rd party support, the bane of the Wii U, verses graphical prowess.

I did play the 3ds, which is why i don't like them, i do not like handhelds, sorry if that offended you. i like to play on actual, real consoles. and yes, they are usually only good for wasting time, not the type of time wasting when you play games but literal there is nothing else, and playing this handheld is better then staring at the ground type. cause that was the only time i played them.

Trust me, if handhelds started getting serious and really popular games, gaming won't last much longer.

But my hidden point stands, this will never happen, because SE knows better.

I wasn't able to find a post with the devs weighing in on this, but I believe Yoshi-p got this question in the FanFest "Please Look Forward To It" Q&A session and he replied that they wanted to enable as many players as possible to play FFXIV, and that this could include Xbox One and potentially NX (now Nintendo Switch) as well (minimum hardware requirements permitting, presumably - which doesn't look great if it's a Tegra/tablet-type system, and we don't know the DRAM size which may be another critical issue.)

Based on this answer, and given that Dragon Quest X is going to be on the Switch, and that FFXIV can run on the PS Vita via PS4 Remote Play, I would speculate that Switch might not be completely outside the range of possibilities, but Xbox One might be more likely (it's also already in the PS4 performance ballpark and is getting a hardware upgrade.)

However, at they same time they also announced that 4.0 will not only discontinue PS3 support but will also raise the minimum system requirements for PC (and Mac, presumably), so we were advised to please upgrade our hardware over the next few (8?) months (notably to 64-bit processors) so we'll be ready to run Stormblood as soon as it drops. I think he also said that Core 2 Duo and 32-bit intel CPUs haven't really been sold for years, so any modern CPU should be 64-bit and much more powerful than machines from ~2009 or earlier (though I note I've seen some pretty underpowered laptops/netbooks/surface tablets... those might not be so good for Stormblood presumably.)

I don't take offense to it at all. I just think you are missing out on great games by writing off the hardware. It's the same as the PC master race argument towards consoles with the names changed.

But, I do understand it comes down to personal taste and comfort. I just can't say FFXIV would never function on a handheld specifically, since there are far too many variables involved with ports.

It not runing on PS Vita, it transmit video to PS Vita or smartphones
so basically you need a good connection internet or 4g to Remote Play

It may not be the best experience in the world, but I love it that FFXIV works on the PS Vita with PS4 Remote Play. Presumably Stormblood will continue to work on the Vita/Remote Play as well. Admittedly the game is still running on the PS4, but the handheld form factor does work. Strangely enough, the Vita actually has double the RAM of the PS3, and it even supports PSN Party Chat...

One nice thing they added to FFXIV is that you can have multiple GUI setting sets, so you can make one that works well on the Vita without messing with your main PS4 settings.

Hate to break it to you but handhelds are real consoles and have games with much much much much MUCH better writing and stories than your typical hollywood blockbuster crap that comes out every 6 months. Limitation breeds creativity, remember that.

Mobile devices of old paved the way for the multi-billion dollar industry it is now... I think it's around 500 billion. Gameboys, TI Calculators, PalmPilots, Tiger Electronics, etc were all devices that gained popularity and moved companies into the tech we use. Gaming will always last. The only reason that it hasn't hit mobile exclusively is the fact that handheld devices aren't capable of providing the same power that our consoles/computers can for any given era, and probably never will. I mean, keep in mind where we are today and where we were just 20-30 years ago.

Do you really think we'd have thought performance capabilities of smartphones, PS Vita, and the 3DS would be where we are technologically? The last two are aged tech! Hell, the idea of playing top of the line console games in the past, like SNES games, on mobile devices seemed too grand of an idea to do. I get why you don't care for handhelds, but to think gaming wouldn't last just because of a theoretical shift to handhelds would happen is ignorant. Part of the reason traditional consoles even exist still is because of the niche appeal (and cost effective market) behind it. It's more fun to play certain games on consoles rather than PC (for me) because of the perception we have of it. If it weren't, we'd be using laptops for all mobile gaming that is too intense for phones.

I think most people are afraid that if the Switch was supported, the limitations of the hardware would hold the rest of the game back, I hope I'm proved wrong and it ends up being as powerful as the Xbox One though. I have nothing against the Switch itself, its a cool nifty console, which will hopefully be better supported than the Wii U.
