As someone who does not actively raid in FFXIV, these things you want to get rid of:
- Chocobo fighting
- Hunting/Sightseeing logs
- City to City Airships
- Treasure Chests
- Linkshells
- Irrelevant quest lines (Ultima's Bane, Relic Weapon, etc)
Are some of my major sources of content and fun. For example, my free company did a "treasure hunt" last week where we shared maps on tumblr and then tried to find the treasure/defeat the monsters. It was easy, but it was fun. The evening was finished off with some triple triad in the Golden Saucer. Relic Weapon gave me something to work on for literally weeks to months at a time. Linkshells provide "chat channels" to get together with players who might not be in your free company.
And as a cloth-wearing healer, my chocobo tank is very helpful for doing dailies and just general questing....not that I couldn't do it otherwise, but definitely helps out.
There is nothing wrong with how the OP present himself. There is only an issue regarding the community being overly touchy and juvenile.
Thread title is: "Observations from a New Player". Doesn't even matter what comes after that, the context of him being new is established. If there are things that don't make sense to him and don't seem to serve any other purpose there is nothing wrong with suggesting to remove said feature. It's up to the participants here to explain and demonstrate why it isn't so. Very normal conduct anywhere else, but here the discussion deteriorates into petty quips like quit the game and "OP is a troll".
1. Things I think would make FFXIV more fun
2. Things I think FFXIV can get rid of
This is all opinion and presented under the impressions of a new player. If someone manages to take offense to this or thinks this is presented arrogantly, then these people need to learn how to deal with normal discussion and forum conduct.
That's a childish reaction. He is asking for someone to explain to him what the use of linksells is, as he hasn't had any use for it so far.
What am I supposed to see here that justifies "extreme feedback"? All I see in this thread is a bunch of insecure man children unable to handle discussion or criticism and it makes me upset.
The other day a new player in my guild asked what to do with his full inventory, it was explained to him that he needed to stash his stuff into the inventory of his retainers. He though it was stupid and it was much more logical to stash it into the chest in his room and was a feature that should be removed.
We were instantly able to agree that it was indeed bad and unintuitive design. The game isn't perfect. People have to realize this.
WoW is that way ->
Uh no. Childish is suggesting content get removed out of ignorance regarding it's use. Yes, he asked what they were for: several posts later after making a first post suggestion that they be outright removed from the game.
"I don't use this and I don't know what it's for, so therefore the game is shouldn't have them." is childish, ignorant, and selfish. You act as if only the game or the people responding to this thread should be able to handle criticism, while completely dismissing the idea that perhaps maybe it's the OP that should be able to handle it as well. OP has every right to post criticism and feedback on the forums, just as much as we have every right to criticize his ideas.
And suggesting that they remove content the OP doesn't use that other people may enjoy qualifies as an extreme suggestion.
Oh, what he means is he is looking for something more like an attack that forces people to break pattern. Think like a musou attack in Dynasty Warriors where the boss suddenly does something not normally in his attack flow to force people to react differently.
