I caved and bought the "ultimate" pack of expansions. It's only $40 and I figure it's worth a go. I'm gunna sub for a month after the initial hype of 2.38 wears off and see what's cooking back in Vana'diel :D I even managed to get my old character back :O There is an option to reactivate him on my SE account since I linked my old PlayOnline account to it.
*googles Raspberry Pi* ...Seems like it could do it, based on the description. However, I can't find any product specs so I couldn't say for sure.
EDIT: Looks like it could work, but if it does it may not be great. The CPU/GPU caps out at 512MB RAM and can't be expanded. The processor is basically like a Pentium II and FFXI requires a minimum of Pentium III.
My first MMO was Trickster Online back in high school. Now Im sad about having never finished it.
My first and fondest MMO, played from launch starting on Tristan server, migrated to PvE server when it came out and stayed there till 2012. Many many fond memories, from dueling tournaments at Druim Ligen, to massive 180 person ML raids, Being part of server first to beat demon lord from Darkness Rises expansion, and... water beetles outside Ardee... so many beetles, and laughing when one called for help and wiped out a party... until it happened to yours.
My fondest memory though, was when my friends and I leveled and geared up an 8 man animist group, and went around killing raid bosses in a matter of seconds by laying down literally hundreds of pets then pulling boss to them. We weren't first to do it, but we were part of the reason the class got nerfed so heavily. Sorry animists :)
