    MMO Nostalgia...

Was just randomly thinking today while I was bored out of my mind my most nostalgic moments of MMO games. What are your best memories of playing any MMO? What do you miss? Would you ever want to one day go back to it or has circumstances changed so much that you cant?

Mine would be when I was playing Maplestory around 5 years ago and just literally doing everything but grinding but still enjoying myself more than I could ever imagine. Was a great game to play with friends and also meet new people.

I have a lot of nostalgia for FFXI, even though I know I spent good portions sitting around doing nothing but being bored waiting for invites, and being mad at all the drama that went on.

I really miss Ragnarok Online and Dream of Mirror Online, those bring back the best memories whether I was doing something or just sitting in town with friends chatting. I cant go back to DOMO, I try to go back to RO but I cant stand the people there. The F2P crowd is always greedy teens..I dont know if that's changed since I played those games or I just fit in better since I was a teen back when I played those games

Yup, I've tried going back to old MMO's. It just doesn't work... It's normally changes way too much for people to get back into as the new crowd is different or you have lost all your old friends and it's back to square one!

There are some games I've gone back to and enjoyed more than when I originally did. I had nostalgia for WoW once even though I only made it to lvl 40 and hadn't played for years, randomly resubbed and started over. In a few months I had a few geared dps and a tank, helped found a large guild and was leading and tanking raids. Of course now Im gone from there again and get nostalgia, but maybe the nostalgia only works best when you haven't already experienced everything that game had to offer. There's still that mysterious endgame to get into.

FFXI and even tho it was not a good MMO, WKC2, things that i will never go back to (or can't anyway) still holds soft spots of the fun times. I forced my self to quite FFXI because 80% of my time was spent standing in jueno waiting for shouts..at least relic gun was my last accomplishment before i called it quits. but i have no desire to ever return to it.

Ultima Online. It was such a flawed game mechanically that it made for some great ways to grief people.

There was a place called 2 Tile Island which was an island you could only access by boat that was literally only 2 steps long. So when non-mages would get a bit...annoying or nasty there were several times I would open up a gate for them to 2 Tile Island while they thought it would go to whatever dungeon they wanted to go to or what not. If they didnt have the means to Recall back to another point, they'd have to call a GM and wait for a GM to move them.

It was nice to have the ability to unload a bit of pay back to people who acted like jerks. Something sorely lacking in XIV.

I have countless fond memories from Ultima Online and FFXI.

The first EverQuest.. back when it launched. Great MMO to cut your teeth on and learn the genre.

Nowadays people wouldnt be able to cope with how that game was set up. They whine now when they have to walk an extra 5 minutes... Imagine dying and all your gear dropping to the ground while you get ported to the nearest city and have to get back to your stuff naked.

So, having lived through that, I can laugh at most of the whiners who come here thinking they've got it "oh so hard".

Pfft, you dont know what hard is.

Those were the days. I remember Plane of Fear raids, where you wipe trying to "break" the spawn at the zone in. Then you spend the next 4-5 hours trying to get everyone's equipment back. It was stressful, but I miss the challenge of those types of zones.

World of Warcraft - The Burning Crusade: getting stomped on by a Fel Reaver as a fresh level 60 (or 58).

For something so big, they were surprisingly sneaky.
