I already fed my choco twice while stabled, no changes observed. Going to feed more and observe, will get post back here when I get results.

Update:
After I heard that you need to feed them when summoned, I tried feeding my chocobo ten Slykis Bud (after summoned), nothing happened either.

Going to try feeding ten while stabled, then summon and feed another one. Will update after I'm testing.

Well it wouldn't matter because krakka root doesn't have an effect so if you double 0 you get no beneficial effect. So it is possible that krakka root can be a favorite food and overwrite the other favorite food forcing a person to keep feeding them the same special food or loose the benefit.

I am unable to test this so it is just a theory

Really? How exactly have you deducted that from that quote? It says "repeated training sessions" which would mean at least two but most likely more than that should be expected. From some (yet unconfirmed though) discussions on the server it seems to be 10 or 11. There are confirmed (temporary - e.g. till dismissed / dead) bonuses while feeding the summoned companions with bonus food. So far I've not seen the status of the favorite food changed by feeding both stabled or while summoned however patch notes would indicate former based on "If you reward your chocobo with the same snack after repeated training sessions" part.

It's 10 times of the same food to get your chocobo to get a favorite food when stabled.

You get a message on the 10th feed saying your chocobo is fond of 'x' food, and it also shows up under the favorite food category in the companion menu.

Great - thanks for confirming this. Now question is - how long will this bonus status last - e.g. do you need to feed your choco after while again with the same bonus food at least one to not loose it and also - would feeding him the Krakka in the meantime remove the bonus food status?

I confirm a couple things:

1. Feeding a special feed ten times in a row while stabled will register it as favorite feed. There will be a message after the tenth training.
2. Feeding ten carrots with a favorite feed registered doesn't affect the favorite feed
3. Using a special feed after summoning chocobo with cabbage gives it one stack of buff for the feed used, two stacks for favorite feed.
4. There doesn't seem to be a time limit for the special feed buff, I have tested it up til 20 mins and it didn't wear off. It's safe to assume it will last til chocobo withdraw.

Yes, I'm wondering as well. I "broke" the cap by using an onion and am 30k towards rank 11. I reset my choco stats after "breaking" the cap and received no 2nd barding. So does it need to be rank 11, rank 20... or what?

I am pretty sure it is rank 20

Assuming you only spec one tree after rank 10 (meaning, after you finish, say, "Healer", then finish "Attacker"), you get your next barding at rank 16.
