When it comes to the actual cakes I'd definitely would like to be able to make a cake just because it would be something different to do.
Just group crafting would be enough reason to do it at this point if it meant that I'd at least have SOME option to do something else than leves.
Sadly given the "content" they've made this year I honestly don't expect this feature be nothing more than another leve when/if it arrives.
I was even more excited about player owned ships. Those would be fun to make even if the functionality of them was added later.

I think the point was that they didn't say they wouldn't do group crafting like making cakes it was just that they wanted the Cake to have a purpose and a reason why you would be making a giant cake.
They could have group crafting but it needs a purpose I guess. They could use the Companies system and have groups of crafter's build ships for the naval fleet, forge weapons and create armour, repair and build defences, cook food to keep troops fed and morale higher. Even gathering classes could help by gathering supplies and materials.
The only problem is they need a reason to do this, I guess a war to fight would be the obvious answer so hopefully that will all be on the horizon soon with the coming darkness. -

So when it does come they want there to be a purpose for group crafting other than lets just bake a big cake or build a boat. The purpose could be that they require new ships for the fleet to take on new foes or need big cakes made for the Admirals birthday party who knows.Quote:

I'm trying not to be negative about it, but trying to pick up where someone else left off with no real strategy or instruction that is a bit difficult and blame cannot be put on one team alone. It is a little disheartening though I do agree. It sounds like the old team did have a lot of ideas but no real purpose behind them, and as one can see with their writing and the general state of the game, many things feel the same way.
It will take time for any of these things to be implemented, and some of them do need a rhyme and a reason. What they could do is create more quests relating to crafting classes and allow team-craftsmanship become something that is unlocked, in the form of leves and official recipes.
It'd be nice if these were also tied to using guild support, different animations, and dual crafting could also be implemented to double quantity, quality, and even involve the materia system. There are a lot of options, but I can see why now wouldn't be the time to implement the giant cakes and ships, but introducing teamwork as a way to craft would be a great start. -
