We need to talk about Duty Roulette: Alliance Raids

As of patch 7.1, there are 16 duties in the Alliance Raid category. Why then, do I end up in Labyrinth of the Ancients probably 80% (and that's probably lowballing it) of the time? I've been running that raid since it was new. I actually remember when the party completion was 2 Tanks, 2 Healers, and 4 DPS.

It's been over a decade, I'm f@#$ing TIRED of LotA, and I'm not the only one. I'm strongly considering just not running the Alliance Roulette anymore, I don't need the clusters THAT bad. I know plenty of other people hit this point a lot sooner than me.

Remember when everyone got sick of queueing up for Leveling Roulette as a max level Job and getting Sastasha, so they implemented the Limited Leveling Roulette setting? Where's that for Alliance Roulette? Getting ARR Alliance Raids when I'm level 100 SUCKS.

LotA, CT and WoD are now mandatory in MSQ. So perhaps that's the reason

And all the others are optional. There’s also the fact that someone just starting the game has a lot of content to do before reaching endgame and unlocking Alliance Raids is time consuming and may not be a priority. Several people don’t even know there are ARs besides CT.

I haven’t done Alliance roulette (nor any other roulette) in a while but although there were quite a lot of CT raids, I used to get a decent proportion of Ivalice and EW raids + the occasional Nier raids.

However, I now just queue directly for what I need/want instead of taking the chance to do something I don’t want to do. As for clusters and tomes, hunt trains are way more efficient than roulettes: 2 DT hunt trains per week give me dozens of clusters, 1600 nuts + 400 Heliometry and 800 Aesthetics tomes (and even more poetics). I can also leave whenever I want and break it down to fit the time I have available.

They should modernize the bossfights at some point, you dont even see boss mechanics anymore.

The new hall of the novice could be a perfect excuse for this

As you unlock CT a pop up shows "Raids may be a bit harder that what you have done untill now, consider visiting the hall of the novice for a lesson on advanced mechanics!"

And voilah, now you can re-work CT into a fun raid, focused entirely in executing mechanics, or the "dance" (because hitting buttons is gonna stay flat at level 50 as always)

I actually presented this idea to my friends back before they made changes to how you can queue for AR roulettes (back when you could ilvl cheese it). I think it would be a good change. But then AR roulettes may take a lot longer to fill. I think only SE would have the data on how many of its players actually have the in between expansions' ARs unlocked and that may be a factor in why this change wasn't done yet.

They need to do something but in general I'm against redesigning boss fights for raid content. These are still pretty interesting to do on MINE personally.

The main reason I don't like when they overhaul bosses is because they seem to be hit or miss. Some of the redone bosses in dungeons have been very good. Copperbell Mines sucked before the change. I liked the change to bosses in Aery too. But I felt like Keepers Lake was pretty bad. I can't think of anything in the moment but those were my main examples. The quality of the current MSQ bosses has been pretty good considering the level of content that is.

I could maybe get behind it if they somehow make their current designs relevant but I dunno how they can do this without making a small number of people happy while pissing off more people. Like lowering the ilvl sync or buffing the boss HP so that mechanics can't be skipped.

Currently you can just do Bone Dragon incorrectly and just heal through all of the adds blowing up. People AFK for Thanatos and Glasya Labolas. And outside of some gotchas like Ancient Flare, no one cares about Phlegethon either. The more I think of it the more I come to the conclusion that they likely need to modernize somehow. But it makes me sad. Cause that could make them less fun for me. And if the raids remain boring then people will still be sick of doing them.

I'm going to guess that this is 90-95% the reason for it. I don't think you can cheese these in anyway now so that you always get a quick LotA run or something. So the only thing I can think of is that barely anyone has the HW+ ARs unlocked.
