criterion rewards are garbage

As the title suggests, the criterion dungeon rewards is not really an exciting alternative to savage content. Here I will explain my proposed plan to help the devs figure out a solution to their issue.

Since people want alternatives to grinding gear and the tome cap is not going to get update, why not set a weekly token system in criterion where you can redeem tome gear and also buy them with tomes at the same time...change is good also the game has too many jobs and too many gearsets to gear it the old way anymore..."you can play any job in the game" but in actually you cant raid with any job since you are trapped to getting at least 1 or 2 jobs perfectly with the current system.

token redeem system would be as follows, 2 tokens for accessories, 4 for feet and hands, and 6 for pants and chest



For one, i honestly rather to cut savage entirely because there is nothing different from savage to criterion except that you cant die or the whole dungeon resets, and you realistically need max ilvl to be confident enough to beat it since its 4 man content overtuned like its an 8 man, hence the bad retention rate of the encounter. Not everything needs a savage to be fun since criterion normal fits the difficulty well for midcore player, but I am to be honest savage should just either be cut from the game or turned into a boss rush where the secret boss is used.

I don't think that the devs see criterion as an alternative given that (I think) they initially said it was a place to try out savage gear and that they're also set to release 2 months after savage. I personally don't agree with this and it should be more savage adjacent content rather than post, though the current release schedule is probably better for retention and people who do actually like both.

I would rather that they just made the tome system more generous and added gear augments to criterion. A bit unrelated, but I do not think that there should be an entirely new gear set to not force ultimate players who don't want to do criterion, to do criterion. For this same reason I think the raid equivalent weapon was a good choice and the effects are pretty cool as a savage incentive. I honestly think that the savage mode is in a good spot, but should be accessible from just doing criterion normal. They really like bullying blue mage though. >_<

Like you said you don't think they should force Ultimate players to do Criterion, I think they should try to make Criterion able to be done by players that aren't interested in Savage raids, because currently there's only tracks for that in odd patches where 24 mans come out and they'd have to spend lots of time farming tomes over weeks or hunts or normal raids for tome weapons before they even get to reasonably try their actual goal of Criterion Savage.

It's not the rewards that are garbage. If they have to use rewards to make people go to the content, the content ITSELF is garbage.

MMO's are essentially rewards driven, any content that provides no rewards is uninteresting for players, and the most rewarding thing you can get is Gear,

We were telling them since the frist criteon dungeon that the rewards are trash, but did they listen? not at all.

You are 100% correct. This is the core of the issue. I play FF14 because it is an MMO. Not for the story (though i do love the MSQ), not for island sanctuary, not for deep dungeons, I play it because it is an MMO. And EW has not improved the actual MMO elements of this game in EW.

you need rewards to incentive people, if there was no gear and ilvl improvement in savage like in bahamut savage, then THAT would be horrible

It needs to be available at level 81 where everyone is synced up to 90 (like Bozja) so players can level alt jobs there.

i honestly think after doing criterion for the mounts, the variant idea where random events happen should be in the main game...if they can turn variant into a regular 4 man, then it can be roulette able since its literally a 15 mins dungeon, just make the 4 man dungeon version so where the npc automatically picks the location u have to go.
