Some housing suggestions...

1) can we make our homes stores? Maybe not like FFXI stalls, but places where we can have NPCs up to sell things for people and repair gear?

2) Large houses seem to have a rather low number of available item slots given their size. Wouldn't it make sense to keep the number of items proportional to the space?

3) Could we please be able to log out using a bed regardless of whether it is in an inn room or not? I mean, some of these beds are pretty expensive...

4.a) It probably wouldn't hurt to have housing play a bigger role in the game than a vestigial growth in a side space... which by the way has a gambler timer on it to even get into...

(after it sinks in that pvp exists)

4.b) Can we fight for the right to own a plot via gladiatorial arena combat? Like, some of these loafers really don't deserve the house they are sitting on and it would give more reasons to go do PvP!

... For some reason I really like the last one. I need to go youtube pvp now. :D

for 1, we can already do that with retainers

3, I wish that housing would just remember where we logged off/queued in the house. It sucks to be booted out every time. :(

It's not just large houses that have low decor count- medium & small houses do as well.
I think each house size should get 75-100 decor limit increase to them; so Small would be 275 or 300 instead of 200, I love house decorating, but 200 for a small house is barely enough.
Increasing the item limit inside houses would quell some of the need for people to try to upgrade from a Small house to Medium or Large- since the housing is in high demand but low availability- thanks to SE's turning a blind eye to loop-holes of players still owning multiple houses & SE not punishing players who use 3rd party click programs.

Small, Medium & large houses should get an item increase adjustment.

They already do this. My home is already a marketplace where I can repair gear. I'm also selling Sky Pirate gear in the shops via the mannequins. I also got a bunch of other NPCs that sell me mats, dyes and materia services. Make reality what you want.

I agree, it would mean so much if they could just raise the limit by just 50 items.

Yes to any and all suggestions that involve players settling anything via trial by combat. Ideally I'd like the ability to just fight everyone on my block to force them to evict so I can have the ward to myself.

To be frank I wouldn't be surprised if you just ended up winning on default for most of the plots because the person just doesn't care anymore. The housing limits are kind of stupid like that, because people will buy a home as an achievement and then move on, maybe meet the log in quota, and never make use of the plot again. I'd imagine FCs would fight to keep their plots and the simple threat of having to engage in combat against a fully loaded or even partially loaded FC would dissuade others from simply trying to overrun everyone.

The main challenge would be time zone differences when a plot gets challenged and how the PvP combat takes place. For example, if someone comes in at non-peak hours to challenge others for plots, they could hypothetically just claim the entire block without some kind of system in place to put a balance on it. Limiting the number of times someone can challenge another for a plot would help (probably once per month per account), and then the system to elect defenders and attackers needs to be set up in a way that makes it realistic for an established, active FC to defend itself. Trying to take a large plot should be like doing a castle siege: It should cost the attacker far more than the defender to take it and the defender should have the right to determine the terms / winning conditions.

I've gotten blowback on the idea, but given the limited number of plots and no real way to reconcile things there has to be a cost to ownership that has meaning. Right now once someone gets in there's zero cost to stay in, which prevents old homes from getting flushed and letting people who want / are ready for buying a home the ability to get in. And yes, there is the argument that instanced housing would solve issues, but I disagree with that assessment because the reason FC houses have value is that they are NOT instanced. Others run through the district and can see the houses that exist, albeit the pain point is that these places are vestigial to the game world and people don't just wander through them as a part of playing the game.

There is a very good reason the game logs you in outside the front door if you logout/enter an instanced Duty from inside the house. A short time after housing was first made available, it was discovered players were ending up glitching inside furnishings which other players had moved around or added to the same place that first player had zoned out from in the meantime (the housing interiors, being instanced, are only 'assembled' when a player is actually inside - leaving that house flushes the interior from memory.), so players were ending up inside cupboards and chairs like the results of horrific teleportation incidents (bare in mind when housing was first implemented it was for Free Companies only, there was no personal housing available at the start).

So SE just decided it was easier and safer to have players log back outside the house by default. This also means we won't get an Inn style 'comfy feather bed' that has a 'going to sleep/waking up animation' for the same reason sadly. :(

I am sorry you took my post seriously. I actually think using PvP to settle disputes or rights for anything in FFXIV is not a good idea.

Nothing to be sorry for. I knew you weren't serious, but it still gave me fuel to my thoughts. The point I was heading towards in that near the end is that it probably isn't viable for really good reasons (When do battles take place? How does someone stop another from just trolling the crap out of an entire district with battle challenges? How to balance it so its fair to new players vs established ones?)

Right now the really big problem I'm seeing from all these posts is that there's no resources in game that tell someone what an FC house is capable of. Someone is setting up shops in their FC house with mannequins. I've played this game since the beginning and I didn't even know about it. On top of which, if someone builds an FC house in Limsa the only way back to it is via teleportation if they are in Novrandt or some distant land, which makes the local town NPCs the goto for everything instead of the FC abode. I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of most houses get very little traffic at all.

I wouldn't call it a "very good" reason seeing as we can already walk through decor without much issue.
