So about the "warrior of darkness" [spoiler]

So at the ending the warrior of darkness was "introduced". But why only now? Obviously, if there is a champion of light, there would be one of darkness. But why hasn't he/she appeared till this late into the story?

Let's put a two facts in order first:
1) Primals are manifestation of one's imagination - In a sense, not quite what they said but you could interpret it like this.
2) The bishop looked at you (the warrior of light) as an evil entity

See the link I'm trying to establish here? The warrior of darkness that appeared in the cutscene was in fact the poster boy of Final Fantasy XIV - Who also appeared in both intro movies of ARR and HW.

Using the poster boy as Warrior of Darkness may be Square-Enix's way to prevent any form of spoiler leak. So here's the big question: Are you, the warrior of light, in fact a primal yourself? If the warrior of darkness has finally manifested when someone imagined it, the same could apply to the warrior of light. After the calamity, the people of Eorzea may have hoped for a champion of justice that would aid them; they imagined you into existence.

Uh, I think it was implyed that they were a last resort plan. That the Elidibus had them in reserve from the start but only now that we've killed not one but THREE Ascian overlords has kinda forced his hand lest he lose control of the situation entierly.

I'd say we are more likely to be an Allagan Mannikan then a Primal...though if its possible to do I wouldn't put it past SE to make a Primal version of us being one of the final enemies we fight when this game reaches its final xpac.

There has been some debate over this in some other threads. I think both sides of the coin have good supporting evidence and honestly, I am just waiting to see which rabbit SE pulls out their hat xD.

Personally, I lean towards the midlander. Or, I'm REALLY HOPING it is because that would be so cool!!

WoD and Elidibus' words on "balancing" out the Warrior of Light is a really interesting concept. I'd like to see how SE expands on that, and how we as the WoL will react to the WoD.
I don't think we'll be facing a "Lahabraea" type of personality, but something reminiscence of Ysayle.

That is a good point to pull up, the Ascians have had a hand in practically everything, including Allagan. Adding on to your point, the WoD could possibly be a fragment of the aether of whatever type of aether resides in the realm of Zordiak, and then placed in a mannequin or clone such as the clones in the Crystal Tower saga. Though, that's just me crack theorizing XD.

There are two reasons I think it may happen, one from in-game, and one from a different one.

In-game reason: In Fractal we see that the Allagans made Mannikans to fight their battles for them, which alongside their machines pretty much ment there probably wasn't much of a military outside of Generals and the like near the end. Different game reason: One of the things we learn in Duodecim Dissidia is that the WoL from 1 (atleast the one in Dissidia if it isn't a complete retcon) is HIMSELF a Mannikan, and obviously a better one then the ones we usually fight. So basically it wouldn't be the first time SE has done so.

As well, going back on the "Ultimate Warrior" part...if this was true, and if SE is able to (Which they have shown with the DRK story in fact)...we aren't the only version of ourselves basically. There would be atleast one more of us who we would have to fight (Not the WoD, I think that should be the Derplander WoL/another Mannikan version of him promotional wise.) But this is probably going a bit too far into the future/crack theories.

I kind of doubt it'll be a WoL doppelganger since they already did that in the Dark Knight quests, though it's possible. As far as I know Square has said that Derplander is his own character, which would presumably mean he's the Warrior of Darkness.

Elidibus explicitly said there were more WoDs than him, though. At least one person's suggested that they could be the MIA Scions, which I have... mixed feelings on.

If the WoD isn't a placeholder for our character, the question is then: Is it the CG Midlander or a Dopplelander?

If it's the former, what is it that he learned through the echo, as the Ascians continue to suggest we would, that caused him to switch sides?
And if the latter, how would battling an evil twin of a character we've never met hold any real significance?

As interesting as being introduced to derplander and joining him and his in the fight against their darker halves would be, I don't think it very likely. That seems like an awful lot of story to cram into a few patches on top of everything else going on.

Nah, I'll stick to the idea that the WoD is our evil twin. ...For now at least.

People need to stop looking at Derplander as a character and realise that he's a symbol to represent all of us players. In the canon story outside of player involvement Derplander is the WoL. When you play you are essentially substituting him with your own character. There are other WoLs besides ourselves (and I believe Ysayle's use of a crystal of light in 3.0 was a big hint that she may have been one herself) but we/derplander are the most powerful.

The use of Derplander to represent the WoD should entail the same symbolism. He is likely just a symbol to represent the group of WoDs. Whether that makes the WoDs our doppelgangers or not remains to be seen. Based on what we know, all we can deduce is that he is representative of the Warriors of Darkness. People suggesting Derplander has switched sides and become the WoD have misunderstood what Derplander actually represents.

I don't have the quote/article for it...but I have heard that atleast one person did ask Yoshi whether Derplander actually exists in the game, and his answer is that he does and is having his own adventures, and that we may one day cross paths with him.

Which if he really did say that, he held true to it.
