To be fair, a lot of people do seem to be missing the fact that the Abyssea trio item is a Prishe Statue that we WILL get even if we bought them separately. So it's not paying another $20 for something you paid $30 for already. The hat is an item for buying the entirety of FFXI. SO paying another $20 for something you've paid more than $100 for...

And that issue in that video is exactly why those of us that are upset in this thread feel the way we do. Newer customers are being treated better than those of us that have been supporting the company for a while, at higher prices. That situation is probably the simplest way to show it.'

The statue is just a slap in the face since it is much less useful. It only gives one furniture storage space, at the cost of a safe space, so it reduces accessible inventory in all but one town by one slot. With the previous add-ons, everyone got a useful item regardless of how they bought the add-ons. Now the useful item is reduced to new people (or those that want to spend an additional fee on top of the already full-price expansions) getting it.

When I bought the Vanadiel collection, I didn't get any type of special item. No big deal though.

Well as someone who just restarted a couple months ago AND bought all the Abyssea expansions, I feel totally stabbed in the face by this. I only have 3 jobs at 30 or higher - so this would be incredibly useful but I guess my business isn't wanted.

Is it that you have one job you usually stick to, or did you buy all the Abyssea expansions before you could utilize them? If the former, then you don't really NEED the hat -- but if you want it you can buy the expansion. If the latter, then why did you buy the add-ons before you could use them?

I feel I should take this opportunity to point at that it's really no surprise that SE has released a collection after the latest add-on set was completed. They did this with the Ultimate Collection after ACP/MKD/ASA was finished. And is it really any surprise that they're offering an extra incentive to buy the new collection? I don't think so.

How are you getting jipped? Nobody's forcing you to buy a new collection that gives you nothing but a hat that's only useful (beyond being a costume item) below level 30.

Hmmm. I would have to say that a HUGE part of this bonus for newer players is simply because not ALL veteran players are friendly or helpful. My THF was levelled mostly solo apart from short bursts durning level ranges 15-20, 30-35 and then 60-65. Sadly, most older players just don't want to help bring people up to speed - have lost count of the times where I've heard people complaining that there's no BLM/Tank/DD about when there are at least 40 of that job in the same area, just at a lower level DESPERATE to get their class up high enough that they CAN actually join that.

... I'm just sayin', is all... chill out! This hat is obviously a very clever ploy to help us all out in the long run! Although - yeah, I'll probably buy it just for the Chocobo outfit xD

I won't cry at night for not having a hat, but it's incredibly stupid that I'm not allowed to get it because I bought the same stuff before they offered the cookie to encourage people to do the same thing I've done already. It's just really upsetting, it doesn't make any sense.

Except you are allowed to get it. You have to shell out twenty bucks for it, but that's not the same as saying you can't get it. Furthermore, it's exactly the same as what a new player has to shell out to get it.

Heck, if you wanted to you could buy it, use the hat code on your account, and give the registration code to a friend, perhaps someone who buys a used (i.e. no registration code) copy of FFXI for the XBox 360. Then you have your hat, your friend gets to play FFXI for cheap(er), and SE has twenty bucks plus another thirteen a month. Everybody wins.

I think a lot of you are missing the point.

Sure, they could have just put up the beret code for microtransaction sale in their store for $20. Would you be less upset by this, seeing as you're not rebuying a bunch of expansions you already have?

If you haven't noticed, there's been a big influx of players returning to the game that haven't played for 1-5 years. Most of my LS just returned with me from WoW cause we've been bored lately. Some players I haven't been able to convince because they either don't want to get back into FFXI (crack) or they just can't afford to buy the game again (unsurprisingly, the economy is still bad). Some want to play but haven't been motivated to buy the box set.

And here's where this deal comes in handy. Most of us already have all three abyssea expansions. Some of us even purchased not one, but two abyssea addons (the equivalent price of this collection) this past week because we wanted to play THEN and not wait until the 16th. Now, some of them will use the collection to give us the hat and the last abyssea expansion they need. The rest of us can buy the collection, keep the hat, and then give our reg code for all the expansions to another friend who was thinking about playing with us. They'll be more motivated to rejoin us, and we'll be happy to have another LS member back. I'd venture they're more interesting in pulling back old addicts than truly new players...and these old addicts truly do know how nice that hat is if they have to start completely over.

Things go on sale. Especially MMOs and their expansions. You bought the expansions when you wanted them and used their content, probably because you didn't want to sit around LFG all day for obsolete content that no one is actually grouping for any more, or you didn't want to spend 1-75 sitting around in dunes and Qufim looking for a group (then comes the fun part of soloing Kindred's seals and crests). Some of us bought as late as last week because we wanted to play together, and that was worth more than saving $20.

It's all what it's worth to you. If the hat is not worth $20 to you, don't buy it. If you want to give your reg key to a friend who's thinking of playing, maybe split the cost between the two of you?

If you want some kind of customer loyalty system that rewards how long you've been paying or playing, take a look at City of Heroes loyalty rewards and suggest something like that in a new thread. This hat really has nothing to do with it and is just a perk intended to entice the maybe 3 new players that are looking at the game and the 10,000ish who would consider returning.

Here's the thing people, the item is obviously designed to get people to start playing, or attract the tons of players that quit the game over the past years for one reason or another, and make it easier for them to level without much help so they can quickly get up to par with the rest of the community... it's a marketing strategy, one that literally EVERY market takes advantage of whether you want to acknowledge it or not...
