Get rid of abyssea

This isn't just about exp! Yes, grinding exp for months per job was part of the real ffxi experience, but so was camping hnms for 3-48 hours, just to watch a rival shell get claim. So was wiping to the death house in windhurst, because someone decided to autorun past. So was dieing repeatedly to trains in garlaige citadel. All of these things were important to really, truly enjoying ffxi. The game simply is not the same without all of these wonderful features.

Guys this thread is done. Rog is evidently a masochist that enjoys torture and this statement proves it. He/she misses the days of abuse, gathering for hours upon end to accomplish nothing, and watching things you long for taken from right in front of you.

You do not have to be a masochist to like how ffxi was before it was ruined by abyssea.

Exactly. FFXI was all about real skill back then. No one knows how to play any more. I mean, like, how many times do you see Skillchains and Magic Bursts going off properly any more? Like, never! Abyssea ruined party-wide coordination and just made people zerg everything. Abyssea completely ruined Sea too. I mean, like, hachimakis have +5 skill on them and they're 100% drop!! Torques are completely useless now when you can get +skill elsewhere for way less effort.

Nobody wants to actually work any more, it's all about gimme gimme gimme in Abyssea. It went and made all of our hard work from the past useless. Ares Cuirass PLD? Sorry, Twilight Mail is better. My Hydra Haubert that was super rare for years? I can't macro it into anything now! It's like all those years I had armor that 95% of the population either didn't know existed or didn't have were just completely wasted. Now everyone can leech Abyssea and get full sets of AF3+2 and empyrean weapons in like 2 hours. It's so unfair.

Actually he's an infamous troll from Allakhazam who came here after he was banned there for doing the sorts of things he's doing here now. It remains to be seen whether or not they allow him to get away with it for as long as Allakhazam did.

lol I read the first post in this thread, and read the entire last page (which was plenty enough).

Plenty enough to see that anyone posting here arguing with him is being so trooooollllled big time. All he says for the most part are infuriating one-liners designed to tick people off.

Except that quote of his Miiyo used which is longer. He describes being mpk'd, losing hnms, and the like. It's so blatantly obvious; no sane person would say that FFXI used to be fun because of these things, but rather in spite of them.

Not to mention even while I agree that empy weapons/armour are waaaayyy easier to get than relic/mythic, I like to see someone get full lvl 90 stuff in 2 hours, I dare you. Obviously the guy was exaggerating but it's still a decent length of time, one that a newer player has to take into consideration when planning out the endgame agenda (like grinding for a lesser ws/weapon before you do the much longer harder grind for the lvl 90 empy one).

So you think we should just forget about the last 8 years of the game? Real ffxi cannot be played without fafnir, or kirin. They are essential parts of the game. And of course the game was meant to be played at level 75. For 8 years, it was designed around level 75. Changing that now simply is not right, and ruins the original game.

Getting the best gear is supposed to be hard. What sense of accomplishment do you have if you can get all the best gear, including empyrean weapons, etc, in a few days? We need to go back to the challenges of getting things like adaberk, ridill, etc. We shouldn't just have everything handed to us on a golden platter.

I think you're forgetting one very simple fact... this game is not getting any younger. In terms of game age this one is a hair away from being shelved and in order SE to keep the player base you have so enjoyed these many years the game has to adapt... it has to evolve and SE knows this. When is the last time you did a "/sea all" on your server? I do it every day that I log on and I among my other friends on different servers we have all noticed the same bloody thing... less and less people are coming back to the game... hence the reason for yet ANOTHER round of server merges. Yes things like Fafnir and Kirin were staples of end game play, but if that was all players new and old had to look forward to as the game consistently got older the player base would have shriveled and died a very long time ago. Sorry mate... but it looks like you're going to have to evolve along with the game... or move to another one for bigger and better challenges. Abyssea and other factors may have nerfed the leveling experience, but there are still challenges to be had if you know where to look for them.
