Problem with black screen, and i am not able to walk

Hello everyone,
my old computer broke after 15 Jeahr, and i have now installed FFXI on my new computer.
The only diffference is i play on WINDOWS 11.

about a week now, sometimes i land on a black screen, where i am not able to walk.
on this screen i am able to see my charakter, and NPC, and gatecrystall. That happens many times after i used the Homepointcrystall, or zooned from Moghouse.

on Windows 10 this never happend. anyone know what i can do to solve this?
I could realy use help. Thank you.

Do you have dgvoodoo installed? Also the "4 gb patch" may help. I used to have the same issue. I haven't had it happen since installing both of these.

If you can re-produce the issue consistently, I would file it as a bug report, though it might be not helpful in the end due to how they handle such things here.

Could also do it via a support request via the support site, but they might just tell you to come back here.

For a real solution, I would recommend installing Linux. :]

Yes, it's fully un-supported by SqEX, but I imagine it will work better for FFXI than actual Windows does the more we move to the future (true for so many older Windows-only games already).

I dont like install anithing that is not fro orginal FFXI somehow...

dgvoodoo doesn't modify the game in any way. It modifies DirectX.

Like I said , I used to have the exact same issue so I searched online and these are the recommended fixes. The problem is running old games on Windows 11. So if you want to wait for Square enix to somehow fix Windows 11 go ahead. "google can be your friend.

NTCore 4gb patch... This very little tool patches x86 executables in order to let them have 4GB (instead of only 2) of virtual memory on x64 platforms. This tool comes very handy for applications which need a great amount of virtual memory like games

FFXI runs just fine on windows 11 without any API wrapper. The only graphical issues I've seen are the same ones that have been in the game on Windows since the game came out.

A memory patch isn't really necessary either unless you're using a hi res texture pack.

There are some legacy components that are no longer installed with windows 11 by default that you may need to enable in some cases to get the game to work properly, but it will once you enable them.

I am a Linux player so I must leverage dgVoodoo and DXVK to play. It does not interfere with gameplay or give any benefits, and my account has not been affected after many many years. So I reckon it's quite safe, but good on you for being wary =)

Using Wine on Linux is enough without either of those.
