    One thing people might not have thought of, they could be going "Freemium" instead of pure F2P, where the option to subscribe is there and gives you extra perks while playing for free is also possible with paywalls or grinding to unlock content.

    That seems to be the general gist of things.

    Same here; I do have plenty I want to still get done, so it's great I'll at least have the time chance for that, from the looks and sounds of it!

    New Add-On Scenarios and Major Updates

    In May, August, and November there will be 3 major updates entitled "Vanadiel's Song of the Stars".

    These will be grand, major updates including new areas, battle content, and battle systems including dynamic events (think RIFTs, FATEs).

    Following these updates, there will be no more major content updates for FFXI, but the game will continue to be supported with minor patches and the servers will not be closing down.


    Console Support

    Playstation 2 and Xbox 360 support will be dropped in March 2016.


    MMMRPG

    Massively Multiplayer Mobile Role Playing Game. It will include a sort of version of FFXI that will allow you to do some things directly to your FFXI character while incorporating new features not available on the PC. They're looking for ways to "make people want to log in every day".
