I'm happy paying the subs, don't want any free game time. Also I'm paying subs for Vanadiel, the whole of it, with updates and now frequent bonus events. So I'm happy with what SE delivers in exchange for my monthly subs. In terms of being "longtime player" and how this should confer rewards, the rewards are that you have been playing the best videogame in history, for a long time, lol.

You are forgetting that we are getting new players that will keep these servers running for more years. Imho this is awesome since i don't want this game to shutdown in less than 10 years.

I understand it's a marketing campaign, it's still pretty disrespectful to paying customers to give it away for free and give no loyalty bonus that offers something.

I came to FFXI from Tera and that publisher never misses a beat, if they give something to new players old players get something too.

Here's the way I look at it. If this campaign even causes 10 people per server to come back and start playing again, I will be happy because it extends the life of the game I enjoy playing.

It's like they say on Extra Credits: Reactivating characters and letting people play for free is providing content for your paying customers by giving them people to play with. Why not do something like this semi-regularly?

We see this all the time; my satellite provider offers 6 months discount to new customers - not to existing; my mobile provider offers free 'phones to new customers - not to existing; my broadband provider offers 6 free months to new customers - not to existing....just the way of the world I suppose ;-)

I am going to be honest here. I quit for about a year at some point in 2012-2013 due to drama in game and couldn't handle it between my senior year of college and work. I honestly had no intentions of coming back. I saw all this new content that I had mixed feelings about and was not prepared pay again to try it out. When I heard about the free log in period for 2 weeks, I decided to suck it up and try it out and I have been back ever since. Surly I am not the only one that came back during that period?
