I'm fine with the rage, besides how can you take a community that prides itself on the complexity of the games battle system too seriously when the producer of the game has to make a post on the forums saying they need learn a little more about battle strategy than just spamming stuns.

    €°(((><

I, for one, am not any more interested on X|V (as of latest ßeta run and everything in-between) than I was on the very first XIV αlpha version (1.0 or whatever you call it).

So no, I will not leave XI for X|V.

I guess it's fun for the 'masses', but I'm really not getting into it. Not that I'm getting into any games, and not that I'm praising XI for its awesome lack of support and content. I'm still playing only because of the friends I have there. However, I can say that when I first played XI, I was more interested in it than I have ever been in XIV/X|V.

I'm only jealous of them having more of Uematsu there!

Even so, I definitely would not be surprised if XI remained as the most—profitable—title—of—SqEX ever. It's not that I'm hoping for them to fail, even if I might think they deserved it for the lack of support and content in general while insisting on supporting PS2 and what not for at least half a decade too long...
FINAL FANTASY IX was pretty much the final FINAL FANTASY for me, even though I did play X to XII as well. It all simply started to go towards a direction I don't appreciate that much, and when Uematsu left the camp, there was even less reason for me to stay!

I also just might be old and grumpy that way.

It's probably something about rather having my imagination do the voice acting, and more, instead of the game doing it all for me. Yeah, I don't quite like the X|V character models; way too detailed! Ha hah!

I don't like hand-holding either, which seems to be one of the trends of today.

Perhaps I actually wish success for the new fourteen, as in to assist the eleven on the side as well, giving it more funds to swell! Of course that's very likely to not be what the future holds, but alas, it is a fun thing to imagine and mould!
Even if that did happen, and we'd actually get more funds and future in this camp, they'd likely take it towards a future which I would not appreciate much at all.

    Such is life.

I can remember reading about the announcement of FFXI and how it will be the first online FF game and thinking "oh my god NO!".
I had never played an online game, and we only had dial-up connection back in 2002(lol), but being a FFFan I just had to try it. I can remember making my character and after the intro I got dumped in Windurst Woods and all the text in the log from new players(I didn't know how to type in chat heh) like me, running around learning how stuff works, finally finding how to reply to tells, chatting to random people, joining a party and it was all new! (only read the back page of manual for reg key). It had an.. atmosphere to it, can I fight that monster? will it kill me? what if I die?! The world seemed so big and alive.

    Now look at it, ugh.

    BST,

It wasn't quite that magical for me, and this definitely isn't a case of nostaGlia that I am going through. More like a thing of preference, I maybe guess.

I didn't get to play XI until much later due to the difficulties to play it in the Europe. For one, it was not released until 2004. I did actually buy it back then already, even though I couldn't play it. I just wanted it in my collection (the 7-disc box with Chains of Promathia and Rise of the Zilart, and the art from the good old Yoshitaka Amano fits right in with the older titles). Ah, the times of physical packaging. Why yes, I am a fan.

I remember reading through the 152-page manual more than once, trying to imagine the game. xd

Anyblue, due to the payment options, I couldn't play until 2005 or 2006, where I had to rely on an electronic credit card (ePassporte). Still surprised that thing worked, and without massive extra fees!
Even so, I still couldn't really start until at around 2007 or so, and I didn't mind the looks then, so it's not likely for me to mind them now, or ever (I still play Commodore 64 games sometimes, so yeah, maybe I'm just that much of a fan of the old).

    I'd definitely tweak things around, but I wouldn't make it a... well, X|V. ^^;

That is, and should remain as its own game.

It's hard to leave the MMO you've been playing for years forever.

I'll very likely be poking my head in here and there for old time's sake. My sub is up soon and I'll probably wait to turn it back on until monstrosity PvP is available.

I have played with my son on this game for about 10 years now. We did every FF release since Nintendo together. Most of the friends we played with over the years have all gone. From what I see SE doing now with lackluster updates and very few improvements, as well as cutting resources from the 11 dev team, it seems unreasonable to keep paying for a main and 12 mules. Most of the goals I once had still require group effort to obtain. These days unless you are doing Delve farming it is almost impossible to get a large group to do anything. And if you do get a shout, or try to build your own you have to either have a delve set, or look for other people who do. ( I do have a complete delve gear set) This I find is exclusionary rather than inclusive to the player base. This is not what FFXI started out as, or what Japanese culture is!

We have discussed it together many times. 11 vs. 14 I was the hold out as I really enjoy the world of 11. These days when I log in I find it hard to do anything that is truly enjoyable. Friends and events I want to play with or do are no longer here.

My plan is this. Eliminate all the mules I have accept the cooking mule @ 105. Sell off all my stuff I have been saving for years and just play main with friends if they ever text me to come do something. Open up an account on 14 and give it a try with my son.

I am older now and really hate change. But to be honest I also miss adventuring and am ready to try something new that we could not get in 11. A developer that is excited about the game and wants to see people enjoy his creation. We cant get back what we had. We asked them to update and grow 11 while failing to realize they had tried and just replaced spaghetti code with more limp noodle code. If we want to have a better world to play in I think we will just have to go where the technology takes us.

There are a lot of good memories in 11. But rather than bang my head against the wall I think it may be time to move on. I play on PC, I have a PS3, so there is really no reason for me not to give 14 a shot.

My analogy is this. I loved starwars and startrek. The technology in Avatar opened up the door to a higher level of both visual and intellectual challenge in portraying a fantasy on film. Gaming is no different. SO 14 is the evolution of everything we asked for.

Hang me from a tree, burn me at the stake, doesn't matter. If you spent all that time in 11 to get R/M/E/D NNI, SAL, SKY, SEA, EIN, DYN then you are a gamer period. Starting over in another title isn't failing your loyalty or saying all that time is wasted. It just means you are starting fresh with a whole new world to explore. If you seriously are pissed off at something you worked for because they changed, or didn't let you keep upgrading it, then you look in the mirror and ask yourself why you invested so much time. Are you selfish? Spoiled? Stupid? I hope not. Then man/woman up and realize its a game, we are supposed to have fun. If you pay and still complain, then you are into self inflicted pain. I complain. I still pay. But I think its time for me to change that.

The only vote we have is with our wallets. I will reward good development and content and stop rewarding bad development and content. It has to be that simple. All we really have is our own time. I spent a lot of it in 11. Time to move on when they release 14 on a reliable platform that I can use. Until then Ill enjoy my friends and time on 11.

My Girlfriend and I witnessed this first hand, people would play a online game and leave and say "When a big update comes we'll be back, but for now I'm done" and we were telling them "If you keep leaving and only coming back for updates/events, there wont be anything to come back to" well that game is dead due to those types of players, and my Girlfriend is in the beta and we haven't heard any NPC talking, the only game we've seen that in was GW2, so if you guys like FFXI and cancel your sub one day it may not be there to come back to, so that's why if we play XIV we'll be on both, but from what I've seen when she's playing, XI seems better IMO the battle mechanics seems kinda janky on XIV and the targeting system is messed up, but just keep in mind next time you cancel your XI sub what I mentioned in this post. Is there a link that someone can post where someone said XI needs more manpower?
